JOHNB reckons the step up in distance will suit Teodoro on Thursday which he’s advising as a double stake.

Our man is also on a horse he’s backed before, Authors Dream, as he looks to bag a winner after drawing a blank on Wednesday to go 9pts down for May.

Johnb’s Thursday Tips

Lingfield 3:10
Authors Dream 2-1 bet365

Redcar 4:00
Teodoro 6-1 NAP/NB paddy power(double stake)

Double 18.25-1 paddy power

Authors Dream
No surprise to anyone that I have again gone for Authors Dream. I thought the horse was unlucky last time after being tipped at 10-1 before being gambled into 2-1 favourite, he was slow away last time and was still challenging for last place turning for home. He also had to come very wide round that last bend and was getting bumped, but he went on to lead a furlong out and was only just caught late on. The front two had pulled away from the others and with a better start and more luck in running he should be winning this as he is the horse open to more improvement. A change of jockey sees him running 6lb higher but that shouldn’t be a problem.

There have been a few recently but Richard Kingscote’s ride on Teodoro last time out was so bad at trying to disguise the fact he was only out for a run. It’s things like this that I like taking advantage of but because he did it so badly I think even the bookies could see it. If connections wanted to land a touch then they did exactly the right thing last time buy dropping him in distance when actually he wanted to go up in distance which he is on Thursday. Last time he was held up at the back in a slow run race and when the tempo quickened before the home straight he was just given a hands and heels ride. The step up to 9f will suit better, two runs ago he was beat by Stradivarius, never travelling well and weakened but also eased a furlong from home. On debut he was beat by another tip of mine recently in Atty Persse so his chances on form look excellent on Thursday and on a low mark of 69 he looks well in here.

Anyone watch the 8.20 race tonight? Surely something has to be done about the ride on the favourite. The jockey had no intention of giving the horse any chance whatsoever. Left it covered until 50 yards to go when it flew but ran out of ground far too soon. Up there with one of the worst rides I have seen. Of which I have seen many!!

Yep Luke a , had a couple like that recently poor riding or bent ? Frustrating

That’s exactly what low grade flat racing is all about I’m afraid.
Obviously not his TURN to win if you get my drift.
Probably run in the pack next time to not make it obvious he is being held back, then if you are lucky enough to know connections word will out that it is his turn to win and bingo.

This is exactly the reason I only bet on championship style races myself on the flat, listed and above, as they are there to win and not fiddle the handicapper.

        peter daryll 7 months ago

True elvis , I raised similar race other week on threat. Honestly can’t remember which but Buick was leading in last 30 yards , second looked held. He then sat up on horse like he passed the line, second over took and won , even commentator stumbled on his words

        • Profile photo of luke a
          luke a 7 months ago

Seen many a race where it would appear connections are purposely getting a horse beat to lower the handicap mark in future. Agreed it is always more likely to happen in the lower class races. The ride tonight looked bent to me for sure. The ride was beyond horrendous. There was zero intention of getting the favourite to win that race.
This is another reason why I prefer jumps racing. Not to say it doesn’t happen in jumps racing too of course. I just feel that over a longer distance, the better horse is more likely to come out on top more often than with flat racing, where decision making is much more vital.
Oh well. Horse racing will never change I guess. We just have to make do with it. No one forces up to bet on certain races

            geoff50 7 months ago

I agree it was unbelievably bad. Not even any attempt to get out of the poor position. Sometimes jockeys make a choice and get it wrong which just happens but that whole ride seemed to be purposely set up to meet trouble.

    • Profile photo of leando
      leando 7 months ago

Most sports have their corrupt moments.
The jockey was very inexperienced and had nowhere to go he was a very fast finishing 5th so I doubt it was to fix handicap as probably won’t get dropped for that.
Ryan Moore gave a horse a far worse ride the other day. I backed both horses and was far more annoyed with Moore

      • Profile photo of juicin
        juicin 7 months ago

The term ‘dont hate the player, hate the game springs to mind.’
We are not privy to the bigger picture and just have to accept the fact that horses are not always put in to win. Something we should all try take into consideration when backing a horse and a reason to avoid such short priced horses in meaningless races.

Now, I know 9/11 was a false flag operation but as for this horse, maybe it finished so strongly because he had such an easy ride, he may even have been out too soon or maybe the jockey made a poor assumption that a gap would come sooner.

Will strip fitter now after last run back up to more adequate trip today.

    16:10 endless charm 4/1 1pt win
Great price for a horse in a very open race. Has good speed figures from debut win and wasn’t fully exerted in the finish , could be anything.

    Redcar 16:30
Tai sing yeh 5/1 1pt win
comes in off bottom weight , didn’t have much to beat lastime out , but won in a respectable time . Is bred for further so hoping jockey uses that to push for an early lead, could be hard to claw back .

Couple betting mistakes yesterday coupled with a bit of bad luck. We lost a few points, we start today -17.69.

    210L Mukalal 2/1, 300R Wonder of Dubai 6/4. 610M Longroom 9/4. 1pt singles, 0.25 treble.

    2010m ONE BOY @ 11/2
I tipped ROYAL BRAVE recently when a NR, today I go against him, be advised, it looks a tight little race. lto ONE BOY lost by 1.75l over c&d to RB but there has been a 6 lb pull, OB also was held in the rear and seemed to be restrained, having watched the replay (, I simply cant go with RB despite the fact I planned on it, and he probably only does what’s required. ALSVINDER is a dark horse from a good yard but coming off a year lay off. LUCKY BEGGAR to me is a spent force but was once racing in c1/2 30lbs higher. DESERT ACE has a nice jockey on board and may be fitter after a pipe opener, also Jardine had a horse finish between ROYAL BRAVE and ONE BOY so may know what it will take to win and that could prove crucial.

    1440l FLOWERS ON VENUS @ 1/1
This horse knows how to win, couple potential dangers but I am with him on his attempt at the hat-trick.

    1610l ENDLESS CHARM @ 7/2
155 day to overcome against some top names but had the run of the race lto and looked immaculate albeit in a class lower. A couple dangers and the price may just be a smidgen short but I’m not looking beyond the names godolphin, appleby, buick and dubawi.

    1900s HUGHSIE @ 5/1
No means nailed on but giving him a chance at this weight and small obstacles.

    0.25 L15, 3.75pts. 7pts total.

Also going to put all oh B. Hughes’ in a combo for fun.

Jimron, just seen how close you were with the Yankee full house. RP text commentary says Gilgamesh won comfortably but I’ve now seen it only won by a neck. Still, 3/4 after a decent footy win, can’t complain! Any tips for tonight’s footy? 😉

    • Profile photo of juicin
      juicin 7 months ago

Have had a couple winners so far but didn’t mentioned teo mate, I try not to tip ones that have been selected already, it may harm my points since I did like John’s pick a lot, but it isn’t too useful for the thread, and my endorsement doesn’t exactly mean a lot so didn’t mention it at all.

Excellent work on Riddlestown, I remember being on when he first started winning, backed once since but I felt today he finally must be on a downward trend, despite not looking at the race, pleased it returned nicely for you at 6s.

Sorry juicin, it was Mukalal and flowers on venus that you put up that have won. Well done with those! Good luck with your remainder too. My biggest concern with Riddlestown today was the fact those previous 2 wins came at Southwell, but I was thinking he may strike again whilst the iron is hot. The drift did concern me, but thankfully all that done was boost returns!
Firebarone, thank you. Fingers crossed for Chestnut Ben later. Has done well for me in the past, as has Ligeti. Hoping Ligeti takes well to turf following a good run of form at dundalk on the AW.

Will forget Ligeti on turf until it ever performs on turf I think. Question though…what was with the stall handler keeping hold of Ligeti’s tail? Never seen that before because the camera angle is usually from the front of the stalls rather than from behind

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 7 months ago

Didn’t see it but usually the handler will give the tail to the jockey or in the odd occasion they will just lift it themselves, it’s mainly to stop the horse kicking out or trying to bolt but it also helps with getting a horse into the stall

      • Profile photo of luke a
        luke a 7 months ago

Thanks for your reply. I had just never seen it before. Ligeti was getting a little heated in the stall to be honest, so probably had something to do with that. Stall handler held it through the middle of the back gate, right up until the gates opened.

It’s a race I’m not too bothered about betting in but it’s always nice to get the winner, the money has come in a big way for WINTER but I can’t see enough improvement for her to win, there is room for improvement but I think not enough, Rhododendron is the worthy favourite, the best form in the book and should win but as I said in my 3yo’s to follow I really like TALAAYEB, she oozed class on debut and she looks the part, she looks special, so for interest reasons only I am going for

      1st Talaayeb 12/1
      2nd Rhododendron 2/1
      3rd Dabyah 16/1
