JOHNB couldn’t land a winner with his joint nap and NB on Friday so his profit for May is now 6.95 points.
There’s an each-way double among his picks for Saturday and also an ante-post selection for Royal Ascot in a couple of weeks time.
Johnb’s Saturday Tips
Johnb says: “Last July Willbeme moved up to group level and showed she wasn’t out her depth with a good 4th behind Ladies Are Forever rated (106) Joyeuse (108) & Indignant (102).
“When you think Willbeme was the lowest rated horse in the race but still had to carry 6lb more than Joyeuse who was rated 18lb better than Willbeme & she was off level weights with the winner who was rated 16lb better, Willbeme led that day over 6f but just got run out of it late on.
“She then went to Beverley for a listed race finishing 5th again beaten by horses rated far better like the winner Pearl Secret (113) rated 16lb better than Willbeme.
“Last time out Willbeme needed the run as it was her first run of the season but she travelled by far the best horse till the last furlong when a lack of a recent run took its toll.
“Monsieur Joe & Red Baron finished ahead of her that day but Red Baron had already had 4 runs this season and was race fit.
“Monsieur Joe also had the advantage of a previous run but also had a plum draw that day so again for a debut run Willbeme ran a cracking race and will be better today for that run.
“The draw isn’t too bad as she is on the high side of the horses drawn in the middle and she can also run on any ground.”
Johnb says: “The rain did arrive early Friday morning with more rain forecast late tonight early Saturday and to dry up for racing but because this race is at 2pm we should get at least good to soft ground.
“Wonderstruck ran 6th in last year’s Ribblesdale at Ascot beaten 3 1/4 lengths by Bracelet. Talmada is 3-1 favourite for this race on Saturday but in last year’s Ribblesdale Wonderstruck finished 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Talmada and that was on Wonderstruck’s least preferred ground.
“On Saturday Wonderstruck should at least get good to soft ground and should finish ahead of Talmada again. On only her second start last season Wonderstruck on good to soft won at Newmarket beating Forever Now by 3/4 length.
“Even on her last run when 4th to Silk Sari again on ground that was against her that was another good performance. Wonderstruck after only four runs still has bags of improvement in her and she is bred to be smart.
“She is a filly by Sea The Stars and a half sister to Grandera and George Washington.”
