June 25: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

JOHNB had an enjoyable if not profitable day at the races although he did tip Idaho to win at Royal Ascot at 6-1.

It was an equally tough day for Voice of Value after a fantastic Friday.

Well done to those who landed winners and Johnb says: “After talking to some well-respected people in racing it’s good to know I am not the only person struggling as a lot say it’s their worst year for as long as they can remember. At least the tennis is still going to form.

“For those asking I never run away from stats – good or bad – and I’ll post them in the morning when I get back.”

    Just the one bet today

    SOLSTALLA 6/1 4.10 wor

Is back down in grade today having been out of his depth last 3 runs and is also down to his last winning mark. Has ground to suit and is a C&D winner. Trainer is 4-6 at the track with chasers and Nico De Boinville comes for just 2 rides and of the 2 will surely have a better chance of winning on this rather than his other mount. NDB has an excellent 23% strike rate with hurdlers at the track. Not one to throw the mortgage on but at 6/1 looks like an ew bet to nothing but ill have a modest win bet

Apologies it should say Trainer is 4-6 with hurdlers and not chasers. Wish there was an edit button !!

Sad news about Dan Evans, had a lot of time for him as he was widely known as the bad boy of Tennis and the working class hero but sadly he has gone off the rails again,
He did amazing to come back last time to go from 772 in the world two years ago to 50 in the world now, he admits he made a mistake and has let people down and in my eyes he should be given another chance
They say he is looking at a long ban but hopefully he only gets the same as Richard Gasquet got which was a 12 month ban although it is still unclear how the drug got into Gasquet’s system
I hope we see Dan Evans back on a tennis court and wish him all the best

He’s admitted the mistake and will pay the price, probably a two-year ban.
Hopefully he’ll get some help and will return stronger.
The claim was Gasquet kissed a woman who had taken cocaine and that’s how it got in his system.

        Mr fixit.
You had better be careful who you kiss in future bud, or you might get done for being under the influence while running a popular betting website..

Heard so many sob stories and lame excuses.
        Troicki, sharapova, gasquet etc.
I’m afraid Mr Evans big mistake was getting caught.
Maybe that’s why he got his highest ranking late in his career.
Just my opinion but if its obvious you take stuff like that it inevitably means you are seeking to gain an unfair advantage, and a life ban is appropriate if proven.
Not this, you naughty boy, see you in 2 years rubbish.
        Just my opinion !!!

June 73.42pts down, far from good but yet again I am paying the price for too many 2nds and close 2nds and as I said yesterday I am not the only one finding this a difficult year but we are not quite halfway through the year so plenty time to get into profit

Yet again the Tennis is going far better than the horses, 2 easy winning bets today, no Nap losers all week 6 out of 7 with 1 void and yet another winning tournament with 9 winners from 13 bets, time for the horses to start winning with a 20/1 Nap

It was an outstanding final, just one break of serve with Cilic losing without being broken and 35yo Feliciano Lopez wins

    Our Lord (GB)
    5-y-o grey gelding
    Trainer: M J Attwater (Last 14 days: 0-8 0%)
    Owner: Mrs M S Teversham
Jockey: Rob Hornby (Last 14 days: 1-22 4.55%)
    Sire: Proclamation (IRE)
    Dam: Lady Filly (UK)

    9/2 paddy power

Moved from Bill Turner to Michael Attwater before last run and that was his best run for a while when fourth beaten just half a length, that run came after a 301 day absence, he wouldn’t settle early on and was outpaced but he managed to run on well at the end and even stumbled slightly
Back down in grade here and with that recent run he should be hard to beat with the expected improvement

    Belgravian (FR) (NAP/NB)
    3-y-o bay gelding
Trainer: Archie Watson (Last 14 days: 2-18 11.11%)
    Owner: Al Asayl Bloodstock Ltd
    Jockey: R Winston (Last 14 days: 5-45 11.11%)
    Sire: Pivotal (UK)
    Dam: Elle Galante (GER)
    Dam’s Sire: Galileo (IRE)

    20/1 paddy power

I find the price on this horse strange as he is bred to be better than these rivals and certainly bred to be better than a 62 rated horse,
It is a big drop in distance going from 12f to 7f and although on breeding it says it won’t suit, I think it will,
Last time out he was 5th beaten 26 lengths but he just wouldn’t settle that day using up a lot of energy and with a furlong and a half to go he was eased right down and just being asked enough to keep the position he had, as I say on breeding the distance is a negative but he looks to have speed and he certainly has potential, I like the win here but I honestly can’t see him being out of the first three for a young trainer I rate highly
