WE'RE getting closer to the start of the league season and in Scotland the warm-up continues with the Betfred Cup.
There are 14 more ties on Saturday and I've posted a separate preview. I'm putting up a third moneyback accumulator – six teams this time – and so far it's one 13-2 winner and one loser. I also have a both to score treble.
Elsewhere it's Anderlecht v Zulte in the Belgian Supercup and there are piles of friendlies including Rangers v Marseille, Preston v Newcastle and Benfica v Hull and in the totally pointless Champions Cup it's Barcelona v Juventus and Bayern Munich v AC Milan.

Tijuana game looks heavy on corners, 4-4 with the away team 1 nil up. Missed a penalty and scored straight from the corner. 3 out of 4 of these games at this point in the match saw a good 15 to 20 corners.
Last nights double landed with America Mg winning 4-2 ( injurytime consolation ) but ended up 13 corners. ( only wanted 10 ) – that came up on 72 mins.
My gut is telling me that if I’m up, I might side with Uran vs cannot remember to beat someone else in the head to head time trial that kicks off at 12.45.
If it lands, I might drop a ton on St Mirren double result. I know they’re tier below but as has been pointed out, Partick are shocking. the double result pays even money.
Again, if that lands, I might drop that onto Limerick to beat Sligo. Sligo are dreadful and Limerick whilst are margainally better on home form, Irish results gave me a nailbiting 3 from 3 to land a 60/1 7 way. Limerick are even to win that match.
I need bed, the highlight of the tour de france – the showdown kicks off in 9 hrs and as tipped a good month ago at evens, Froome should Vrooooooooooooom for his 4th title. Just for sh*ts and giggles, I grabbed him when he was 5/4 and put a ton on it. Team sky have been spot on.
Personally, I don;’t think Froome is that nailed on to win the stage, but Uran is his threat. Froome has to better his 32km time trial by 24 seconds. 23 seconds and Uran gets the title on stage win countbacks. I do think Froome will better Uran’s time, but Froome says his legs are fresh and team sky have been very protective of him throughout the tour. Aside from my friends woes, I’ve woken up with a stinking hangover. Just looking back at my last nights posts to see if I said anything ” p*ssed “. Nope. Ok.
So first, the Tijuana game. 32 mins in and 8 corners. By the time I logged off around late o’clock, just 1 corner had come in. I think I called a taxi at that point. Corners just stopped happening. It might be that the opposition grabbed the opener and took the fizz out of the game but both teams were going for it from what I can remember. I had another speculative £150 on the Cruz Azul win when they were 1 up @ 4/7. It landed I think on 2 nil, so it rounded off a most pleasant 2 days of bets for me.
I’ve banked a £50, my pot is now at £785.21.
I’m too late to drop on Uran to beat his head to head partner in the time trial, but Froome should get the job done today. He’s just 1/33 to grab his 4th title.
So todays bet is going to be a speculative but relatively safe St Mirren double result. (it was evens yesterday ). Hat tilt to @craneguy for the nod on that one, especially the sick players. Its a premiership team v a championship team but St Mirren have form, thistle have more or less none, St Mirren look way way too big at around 7/2 for the win, so i’ll take the double result @ 23/20 with a Limerick @ evens for a tasty double.

Might of got them a touch mixed up but only Halmstad had delivered by ht. the cr*pest thing about my challenge is if you don’t get a couple of early goals, your cashout is always about 1/6th down on your stake from the off and the longer it goes on without results going your way, it tumbles.
Varberg delivered the goods not long after ht, and Malmo ( clear 4/11 win favourites ) made me sweat until there was around 20 mins left on the clock. Just to rub it in, they got 2 in quick succession.

Couldn’t wait to get back to Hamburg after to be honest, the reperbahn is an interesting cultural experience.
Saw st Pauli’s ground which is in the same area, can’t think of another team who play in chocolate brown shirts.
Their club crest is a skull and crossbones which looks well aaaard.
Oddly they sell shirts and scarves with st pauli/ Celtic on them. Not sure of the connection.

The Celtic/St Pauli connection goes back about 10 years but not sure about the origins and the clubs have played each other recently.
There was something about Celtic playing in Hamburg and being supported by their rivals who are St Pauli and then there was a mutual respect between supports.

the connection between celtic and st pauli is actually due to rangers strangely enough, lots of scots moved to the hamburg area in the 60’s and 70’s under the german guest worker scheme in the construction industry, a rangers supporters club was formed in the city and started to follow hamburg as their local team, there were a few friendlies played between rangers and hamburg at the time and they met in Europe also, a rivalry and affiliation between rangers/hamburg & celtic/st pauli grew from there plus Jorge albertz signed from hamburg to rangers and returned to them which strengthened the relationship again as was a big hero at both clubs………………..
ps shipbuilding had a large part to play in it with the decline on the clyde at the time and the boom in the yards on the river elbe in hamburg……………..
