I put it up as a 3.25pts pick and added a 4pt double that was beaten by Preston who lost at home to Walsall in the JP Trophy Northern Final first leg.
So that's two losing nights in a row with results not quite going as planned.
On Thursday much of the focus will be on the Spanish Cup clash between Barcelona and Elche with the Catalan giants in a bit of turmoil.
They had won 10 matches of 11 matches heading into last Sunday's trip to Real Sociedad but went down 1-0 to cap a miserable week that also saw them lose their appeal against FIFA's transfer ban.
On Monday Barca – who take on reigning champions Atletico in the league at the weekend – sacked director of sport Andoni Zubizarreta sacked and saw his assistant Carles Puyol also leave the club.
And to make matters worse Lionel Messi, who had been benched for the Sociedad game, called off sick for training with reports suggesting he and coach Luis Enrique were at loggerheads.
Reports suggest Messi won't start against Elche but I don't know for sure. However, even with the difficulties they're experiencing this should be a routine win for Barca against La Liga's basement side and one who have never scored against the Catalans.
It's been 3-0, 3-0 and 4-0 in the last three meetings so while Barca are extremely short at a best 1-11 at BetVictor you can get 8-11 at Ladbrokes for them to win by three or more which they should manage.
Before losing to Socieded it had been 21 goals in their last four homes and while they're better with Messi without the likes of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Pedro can fill the void.
If Messi does get the nod he'll be out to make a point and I'd back him at 12-5 with bet365 to score first but if he's not in the line-up choose Pedro who has netted six in seven games. He is 9-2 at bet365 and Paddy Power.
Elche have won once on the road in La Liga but put on a better display when they held Villarreal 2-2 at home after trailing 2-0.
Tonight's other tie sees Sevilla travel to Granada and while Sevilla tempt at 1-1 with Betfred team news suggests they'll rest five or six key players. Granada have won just once in 15 so have been dragged into a drop battle and they too are likely to rotate.
Sevilla spanked Granada 5-1 at the end of October and have lost just one of the last eight meetings. If team news is wrong and they field a strong side I'd go with them so it's one to watch.
There is one match in England with promotion rivals Luton taking on Shrewsbury. Luton went to Cambridge 2-1 in the FA Cup last weekend but boss John Still has five players back who missed that match – Nathan Doyle, Scott Griffiths, Steve McNulty, Shaun Whalley and Luke Rooney. New signing Jayden Stockley is available.
Shrewsbury have doubts over striker Andy Mangan but midfielder Dave McAllister could feature after returning from a loan spell with Stevenage and James Wesolowski is fit again.
The Shrews have stuttered recently with a 1-0 defeat to Burton and 0-0 league draw at Wycombe. Their 10-goal tally on the road is the lowest of any of the top 16 teams and home advantage could give Luton, who are 21-10 at bet365, the edge.
I've had a good look at games this morning and decided to risk my 2pts profit on Luton draw no bet against the Shrews. Team news favours Luton as does the fact they've netted in their last nine home games.
For title favourites Shrewsbury's away record is poor – just three wins – and the key stat for is that none of them have been against any of the current top 15. Luton are a biggest 19-10 at Skybet to win but I'm happy to try to double my money with DNB at 1-1 with Betfred.
I've picked Luton ahead of Maritimo who face Nacional in the Portuguese Cup. Maritimo have lost just once at home in the league and 16 of their 19 points have been gathered in front of their home fans while Nacional are without a victory on the road.
They beat Braga at home last time out but did, however, lose 3-0 at Nacional in the league in December so that's a concern. But if Maritimo play a full-strength side home form suggests they'll win and are a biggest 11-10 at bet365.
Add Barcelona -2 for reasons stated and while Sevilla should win team news leads me to play safer with Sevilla draw no bet – the treble pays just under 4-1 if it comes in.

I’m doing a similar betting strategy to you, but predominantly over 0.5 goals per game, and often 10-12 mins into the game, its easy to pick up a couple of 1/12’s at a time that way. current balance is 42 quid.
I have the barca game over 1.5 tmg’s and luton over o.5 tmg’s for a 16% profit.
the furthest I’ve take my tenner is 1200 quid, so you’re in that territory now. if you can grind out odds and sods and be careful what you bet on, you could take it to the holy grail of all punters goal, the big mill.

Tip 1 – UNDER 2.5
Lutons form this season show 69.6% at U2.5, with Shrewsbury’s at 66.7%. Together that’s 136% from 200% at U2.5 and that hits the benchmark for me to back and tip.
Tip 2 – BTTS(NO)
Someone’s going for yes on this so interesting how people can all interpret stats differently, for me Luton BTTS(YES) is only at 34.8 with 29.2 for Shrewsbury, so that’s 64% BTTS yes from 200%, turning this on its head its then 136% No and like the tip above that’s the benchmark hit.
Tip 3 UNDER 45 BOOKING POINTS
Luton Aver only 1.2 cards whilst Shrewsbury are slightly higher at 1.7. If I round up that’s 30 points a game as an aver so 45 builds in the round up and an extra card. This gives me the 1 card security I need to back. (2 card cover and i increase my points)

Maritimo at evens is the SS for me. Their home form is impressive and should have enough to dispatch Nacional. Motivation shouldn’t be an issue as a place in the semi-finals is up for grabs and with Benfica+Porto already out, it’s a great chance for the lesser lights to claim some silverware.
I also like the look of Luton at 2/1. Again, they’re decent at home and will give Shrewsbury a lot to think about. By asking them trick questions etc.
Time to do a bit of bank-building for the next couple of days, after significant reverses (sure I’m not alone!!) I expect a Barca win, but will there be 5 goals in the game? Elche have lost their previous visits 3-0 and 4-0, with the Atletico Madrid game coming up on Sunday, i cant see barca playing their strongest side and i think Elche will prove tough to break down. just an early few things to think about for the upcoming Ipswich/derby game which is gonna be a tough match to predict – I’m posting this whilst its fresh on my mind.
Derby have signed Darren Bent on loan who started his career at Ipswich and Chris Martin – 17 goals in all competitions this season started his career at Ipswich’s Suffolk rivals Norwich.
I can’t see Bent starting BUT I can see Martin getting on the scoresheet against an old foe. Its games like these that gives them an extra yard against the opposition.
Derby have been quick out the starting blocks in the January transfer window with 3 signings, we’re appartently eying up Chesterfields top scorer 21 goals from 26 games AND possibly Troy Deeney. We’re averaging just shy on 2 goals per game and at least half a dozen managers have stated publicly we are the best away side in the league.
Portman road is not generally a great place for us to visit but we are stronger than we were last year, we’re more settled at the back and if we’re firing on all cylinders, we should at least get a point from them. My angle here is that if Barca are going to bounce back convincingly from the surprise result at the weekend, I believe they will want to get the game done early. Some brief team news for Granada v Seville.
Granada stuck in a relegation battle and the manager apparently wanted to play a second team effectively but fan pressure has meant he will play a balanced side with some regulars and some fringe players. But, that to me, says he isn’t overly concerned with tonight’s match.
Seville should be more up for this. They beat Granada 5-1 at home recently and beat them away last season. However, according to Marca their manager has also left a few ‘heavyweights’ out of his squad but I couldn’t find out who they are.
Having considered form, stats and team news, I think the draw at 5/2 is good value. Granada aren’t good enough to beat Seville,especially with a weakened team, and Seville aren’t fully committed either and will be happy to take a draw and finish the match in the home leg.
Good luck to all who follow. I would not be surprised to see a Seville win, and think it is just as likely as the draw, but obviously the draw is very good value if you believe the same as me.

Well i’m gutted that my final bet in my £20-£200 challenge lost after the Woking match ended 0-0. By the looks of things, lots of people had a bad day yesterday. I hope that if anyone did follow my challenge, that they took out the £30 as I suggested yesterday, then at least you have £10 profit in the grand scheme. I have a busy week or so coming (I live in China and I have to get Visa stuff sorted) so I won’t be starting a new challenge just yet. Evens for over 3.5 barca goals is available at Ladbrokes ball boy. Barca beat elche 3-0 back in august but had mascherano sent off in the first half. I think they will come out firing tonight and put the tie to bed so their second team can have an easy run out in the second leg.
Barca to score over 2.5 goals is 2/5 at Ladbrokes too and that is as good to buying money as you can get.

Alves wont stand a chance in the EPL, he rarely has to work hard in the Spanish league, but EPL every game will require him to bomb up and down that wing week in week out. Fluminese game going crazy – had 7-0 at 25/1 at the start of the game and its 5-0 after 35 minutes

Huachipato are probably my best team betting on corners and apart from the playoffs in december they’ve produced 80% of the time. I missed their 1st game of the year through being ‘out’ on the 3rd but they lost 3-1 at Nublense and lost 10-8 on corners. It’s the 2nd game of a new campaign, Chile has 2 seasons each year and after 18 corners in the 1st game I’m going for these bets. I’ll be working til 10 but will watch 2nd half as it’s being streamed.
They played the same fixture in July with Huachipato winning 0-1 and losing 8-7 on corners. Let’s hope for more of the same.
