IT was a day of ups and downs for most punters. FA Cup results pretty much went as planned (eventually) and while my Super Single lost I balanced that with a Top Treble winner.
Later there was a sting in the tale as Real Madrid and Barcelona suffered La Liga losses and my only winner on those matches was Cristiano Ronaldo to score first.
There were also good tips from the usual suspects such as Chris Guy with Per Mertesacker to score first for Arsenal and some from the newbies.
I'd simply ask these people to keep it simple – put up a tip with a price and some reasoning and later review the days's efforts but don't clog the thread with constant or confusing updates.
And from the comments it seems as most punters profited from Gary Anderson's win in the World Darts Championship which I said I'd be on.
My first Super Single loser of 2015 was Dundee United who were held at an injury-ravaged Partick Thistle. But while that was a 5pts loser I made a 9pts profit on the Top Treble thanks to wins by Crystal Palace, Inverness and Aberdeen.
Tonight there are two FA Cup ties between Wimbledon and Liverpool and Burnley and Spurs and team news will be vital before betting on these games. Here's what I have so far.
Burnley will make some changes after six consecutive games with the same starting line-up. Captain Jason Shackell and his replacement Kevin Long are injured and the club are waiting to see if Man Utd give Michael Keane permission to play before his loan deal ends next week.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettini is set to rotate his squad with Harry Kane rested while Ryan Mason and Erik Lamela are out injured.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard starts days after he announced he'd be leaving the club at the end of the season. Martin Skrtel returns from a ban and Mario Balotelli's fitness will be assessed.
Raheem Sterling is also rested which means a start for Rickie Lambert who has plenty experience facing sides such as Wimbledon. Lambert could be a shout for first goal at 9-2 at Ladbrokes.
Sammy Moore and Adebayo Akinfenwa will be fit for Wimbledon's after recovering from illness and a leg injury respectively. Millwall youngster Jake Goodman is eligible to play in what will be the final game of his loan spell while defender Adam Barrett will be unavailable for the hosts as his loan from Gillingham has expired. Defenders Jack Smith (hamstring) and Andy Frampton (ankle) are set to miss out again.
Akinfenwa and Matt Tubbs have netted 20 goals this season and are capable of giving the Reds defence some trouble for anyone who fancies a shot at both teams to score.
I've posted a separate preview on Kilmarnock v Celtic and having looked closer at Lazio v Sampdoria in Serie A and Cordoba v Granada in La Liga the matches still look draws.
Three of the last four between Cordoba and Granada have finished 1-1 – a repeat of that pays 11-2 at BetVictor and William Hill. The draw is 11-5 at Betfred.
Sampdoria have drawn five if their last six league games and a stalemate at Lazio is a biggest 13-5 at Coral. Lazio though have won four of their last five meetings against Sampdoria in the league and conceded only one goal in the process.
For now I'm putting up a double on Celtic and over 2.5 goals at Balikesirspor v Trabzonspor. Ten of Trabzonspor's last 11 league games have gone over 2.5 as have seven of 10 of Balikesirspor's last 10 so this bet is taken by stats alone.
I believe Celtic will win and I like Celtic -1 at 5-6 with Skybet even though Ronny Deila has rung the changes and dropped John Guidetti for Stefan Scepovic with Kris Commons getting a rare start too.
Having seen the line-ups I'm going with Liverpool -1 and both to score at Burnley-Spurs. Neither is big enough for a Super Single so I'm putting up another double.

For the first time this season Celtic have an important league game! They now trail Aberdeen by 4 points and will want to reduce the gap to help extinguish any talk of it being a two horse tirle race! For me it’s bad news for Killie, espeially as Celtic absolutely love playing Killie at rugby park! They’ve lost just 4 of their last 40 vists and have scored 2 or more in 17 consecutive trips here which is inpressive! ( 11 were 3 or more). Killie after a good start have really at struggles of late – I fancy Celtic to win tomorrow and win well!

Team news will be as vital as ever for FA cup betting tomorrow.
I’ve seen a few people posting Sp*rs as being a great bet, and I’m not sure I agree with that. Pochettino has been known to rest big players and heavily rotate for cup fixtures, and with Spurs already having the Europa League to balance with their bid for a top four finish, their number one priority, I can see them dropping significantly below the high levels of mental and physical intensity that saw them beat Chelsea in such impressive style.
Burnely of course have a much bigger priority too in Premier league survival, and the weekend match against QPR is far more important than a cup run. Injuries have also started to rack up, but if there’s one thing we learned from their last two matches it’s that Burnley are an incredibly gutsy team. I think we will see complete commitment and fight from whatever 11 Dyke sends out, and assuming Harry Kane doesn’t play, Tottenham could be something of a blunt force. Soldado could turn the tide one of these days, but the fact is right now that he is useless in front of goal. I think this will be a tight one, and I won’t be touching it until I see the lineups.
But my gut says Burnley.

Liverpool is clear favourite to win this, but there isn’t much value there, and I’m not going to back O2.5mgs, just in case. Wimbledon have conceded at least 1 goal in 4/5 of their last matches at home against much worse sides than Lpool, most notably conceding 2 against 23rd placed Tranmere back in October. For Lpool, they have scored at least 2 goals in 4/5 of their last matches. Also, I’m hoping that the whole team will have an extra incentive to put on a show for the fans and push forward with Gerrard announcing his departure. (Gerrard anytime @2.75 could be worth a small stake). Also, it’s safe to say Liverpool aren’t challenging for the title this season, so a chance to get some silverware in the form of the FA Cup should be high on Brendan Rodgers agenda.

Dan I think you’ve got it pretty much sussed already although you don’t need to just do 2 bets. You could do a single at evens or around there and maybe 2 doubles or a double and treble at £2.50 each. You could be looking at odds around 3/1 for the double or treble and as You said 1.50 – 2.20 for the single. Personaly I wouldn’t go bellow 1.90 but that’s just me. If it is below 1.90 it’ll be 2 as a double. Hope this helps.

Portadown to win and BTTS (7/4)
This is another value bet from Northern Ireland. Institute did the business last time by scoring in a 4-1 loss, and they have now scored in 10 out of 12 away games in which they have only won 2.
Portadown kept a clean sheet in their previous game but had conceded in 9 consecutive games before that (conceding 2 or more in 6 of those). Both teams have scored in 7 of the last 8, with the 5 games they won in that time all going BTTS.
The 2 H2H games this season have finished 4-0 and 4-1 so Portadown are understandably short to win (2/7) and really should do. Win and BTTS are generally pretty hard to predict but I feel there is enough value in this to have a go.
You would still use 10% of your bank per day half on a single and the rest on wwhatever takes your fancy really.

Mr F, somebody earlier in the thread claimed that Deila had said he wouldn’t risk some players on the plastic pitch. I’ve never heard hm say that and I don’t believe he would. Celtic have played on lots of plastic pitches and have an excellent record on them (inc wins in CL matches). I think the plastic pitch helps Celtic more than Killie. Normally at this time of the year, pitches are in a right state and it can be a leveller, but not so tonight.
Baldy45, only players who were carrying injuries or who have problems related to playing on plastic pitches would be spared but Celtic haven’t stated that anyone will be left out for those reasons. It’s a game Celtic have to win really.
Good players can play on any pitch- anytime I’ve seen Celtic they defend like hell at home in big games. Need a bit more adventure tonight…and Denayer to score of course!

Just wondering about something I said a few days ago about stats,having looked at the Perth game the stats had 26 games between the 2 of them averaging under 2.3 goals which is not that far away from 2.5 so really is that stat to be trusted if u follow stats ?
Also I looked at every so often after 3-5 games the overs would hit so there looked like a pattern there but are patterns basically just another form of stats ?
Or at the end of the day it all just boils down to luck ? Interested to hear anyone’s thoughts on the above thx

I agree mate – Sometimes stats can go out the window and in football anything can happen mate. I suppose statistics are a good guideline to follow but always be prepared to have a shock.
Yeah harpreet this is why when you see some tips put up as a certainty due to following stats etc etc then they get beat it makes you wonder if its just lady luck.
But saying that when you see Mr F and his super singles you think well maybe stats do matter but the Raith Rovers tip came in at 89 mins can you see that as a wee bit of luck ? but games last till the final whistle goes so maybe not luck.

Back from the winter break, the first match in Serie A is a treat as two european chasing sides face off in the capital. Lazio being the home sides are favourites at 1.83 with betfred, I don’t think theres value there against a strong inform sampdoria side. To my usual score markets, Lazio have scored in 5/7 home games and samdoria in 6/8 away. Both sides are at full strength, lazio’s main threat is probably Filip Djordevic with Stefano Mauri and the Felipe Anderson behind him. Sampdoria are without Gabbidiani who has 8 goals this season, allowed a medical at Napoli apparently instead of playing. Eder and Okaka will bethe men to do the business up top for the away side. Both teams to score is my bet at 2.05 with Betfair.
2) Cordoba V Granada 19:45
I’ve a lot of success in the first round after the break in la liga and I hope to continue that tonight. This clash see’s struggling Cordoba pitted against a side also struggling with only 2 points seperating them from 19th/18th respectively. This is a relegation scrap and a real 6 pointer. Cordoba are one of only 2 teams in la liga without a home victory this season, they havent scored more than more than one goal in any of their 8 home matches either. Granada havent won away yet this season either registering 4 draws and 4 defeats. Draw is written all over this fixture, but I don’t think it will be a stalemate. Cordoba have only kept 3 clean sheets in 8 home games and granada have hit the net in 6 of their 8 away games, Failing at the Nou Camp and agains Celta Vigo who at the time were in good form. Granada have only managed 2 clean sheets on their travels, once in the vigo game (0-0) and the other up in basque country against Bilbao (0-1) which was a very decent result. Both sides have top scorers fit in Nabil Ghilas for the home side and Younes El Arabi for the away side. The last 2 meetings between these sides in Cordoba have both ended with a 1-1 scoreline and I expect that to be the same tonight. My tip is again BTTS @ a generous 2.25 with BetVictor. Whats the best betting system to use. Is it best to only bet 10% of your bank each day (whatever that may be) to use that figure on
1. One Single at around 1.8 to 2.0
2. One Double (without the team in the single)
3. One Treble (without the teams in the singe or double)
4. One 4 fold or 5 fold speculative bet for fun mixed from selections from 1 to 3
Win or lose stop at these bets each day and move on to the next. Next day whatever your bank is use 10 per cent again and so on.

David – I find it depends on what you want to achieve. To get a quick bit of cash or to be successful long term.
I tend to stay away from 4 or more folds and concentrate the majority of my stake on singles. Also outside bets I keep to a minimum (3/1 or more). I also never up my stake on singles, even if I win 10 in a row. BUT, I will lower my stake if my picking form is off.
My stake on singles = around 25% of my bankroll (once down to 50% of bankroll and then 10% stakes)
I always cash out anything over 100% of my bankroll (so if u start with £10, and double it to £20, cash out £10)
Betting this way, I usually end the day with a 100 – 200% win.
Obviously I start with more than £10 but thats just a guide. You decide your own stake amount.

A classic FA cup tie, and one that I think will be quiet open, Wimbledon have nothing lose and while I don’t think they will cause an upset, I can see them scoring with Akinfenwa and Tubbs giving the Liverpool defence problems. Wimbledon have scored ten in their last 5 league games. Liverpool win & btts is 2/1
In the goal scorer market it will only be for smaller stakes as the double is my main bet. For Liverpool Lazar Markovic hasn’t really justified is 20m price tag, but as a chance to impress against league 2 opposition. His only goal as come in the league cup against lower league opposition in the shape of Bournemouth. He is 2/1 to net tonight.
For Wimbledon they have two decent scorers especially in league 2. They have the best link up play in the league and im sure this will get them on the scoresheet. The melbourne outfit have only conceded 4 goals on their travels this season which is the best in the league. The home side have only got on the scoresheet in 2 of their 5 home games this season, and only scored 2 home goals all season. Im confident the victory will get at least 2 goals tomorrow and I don’t think the wanderers will hit the net. However, Melbourne have been struggling to fire on all cylinders in the first half this season and considering neither side have lead at half time home/away respectively im looking at HT to be a desmond. Hudmystar you’re doing great mate. I had a free £5 bet from bet365 and managed to turn it into £240 then got carried away chasing my loses on a bad run and lost the lot. I too was stuck in a up and down patch which needs extra research into the bets to get out off. I then left it a few months before get another free matched bet for my £100 deposit, rolled it over 3 times and then withdrew it so I’m back to playing with the bookies money. My pot now reads a healthy £424 and I have learnt lessons from my last mistake.
