SUPERBOWL Sunday is almost upon us and Seattle Seahawks are the 20-21 favourites at BetVictor to win the title for the second successive year.

The Darts is back! after a thrilling world Championships were the player of 2014 Gary Anderson finally climbed the mountain to become World Champion, the top Sixteen players in the world go head to head to take James Wade crown as Masters champion this weekend, ahead of the Premier league which starts next Thursday.
I should point out most the top players wouldn’t have thrown a dart in anger since the worlds, so bet accordingly. Gary Anderson last season was the hunter and now becomes the hunted, the pressure of being introduced as World Champion, will make the players raise their game to beat him, and all the media stuff he has had to deal with since winning the title may make him a vulnerable second favourite.
I think everyone knows I am a MVG guy and I think he will be in the winners enclosure on tv in 2015. He is my tip for the premier league and I think he can go close in the Masters. He faces off against Wes Newton in the opening round and he as dominated Newton recently, winning 13 out of 14 meetings. Newton as been poor all last season and not surprisingly he lost is place in the Premier league. A quarter final against Robert Thornton or Dave Chisnall and a semi final against probably Adrian Lewis looms all three are fast players and their pace suits MVG, I can see him making the final if not winning it. He is 6/5 Skybet to reach the final.
I mentioned Adrian Lewis could set up a semi final with MVG, and he has the softer quarter of the draw. He opens this afternoon against Ian White and while White is a good player and Aidy admits he doesn’t like playing in the afternoon, if he plays anywhere near his best he should win this game and take care of Peter Wright or Brendan Dolan who he would meet in the Quarter finals, so the 10/11 Skybet to win 2nd Quarter looks a good bet

These two met at this stage last season with Chizzy winning 10-8. There is not much between them in the rankings and the bookies have priced this up as a pick em with both players available at evens. Thornton won when they met in the Premier league last season 7-5 and I think another close match is on the cards. I will be on O16.5 total legs at 4/5 Coral. Both these guys are heavy scorers and I suspect a long game with plenty of legs, so O9.5 total 180s at 11/10 tote and this rates my best bet of the afternoon session.

Lewis as I mentioned in my preview doesn’t like playing in the afternoons and has lost his last three against Ian “diamond” White. Lewis has won this tournament and was a semi finalist last year, and is my tip to come through his quarter. Lewis when on song throws 180s for fun and White is no slouch and while I can see it being a close game, especially if White takes the first mini session I can see O8.5 total 180s at 8/11 Skybet

I was watching the media day from yesterday and the “experts” don’t half state the bleeding obvious. Al Iaquinta (Fighting Joe Lauzon who I think is a great fighter but they are going different paths in the UFC. Lauzon has been around a few years now and Iaquinta is the younger of the two, coming off of three TKO victories, his latest being against one of Englands best in Ross Pearson). I seem to remember Anthony Pettis knocking out Lauzon with a vicious head kick. Iaquinta’s favourite technique? Yup, head kicks. My only worry would be if Al gets careless then Lauzon could lock in a submission and end the fight, but I think he’ll be ready for that).

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY
The build up as been on SKY all week, and now it is time for the talking to stop. Superbowl 49, is the closest matchup I can remember in a long time, most major bookmakers have this as a pick em with both sides 10/11 on the Money line. Seattle attempt to be the first side in 10 years to win back to back Superbowls.
The old adage in sport is defence wins championships, just ask the high powered Denver offence last year who were torn apart and shut down by the “Legion of Boom”.
The stats will tell you that last year for the fifth time in six meetings between the NFL’s No. 1 offense and defense, the Defence dominated. Denver fell behind early and were 22-0 down at half time, they were forced to throw more than they would have liked. Manning threw 49 times in last years final.
I watched a repeat of last years final this week, and three things stood out to me that I feel are worth mentioning into why Seattle won that game.
1: The first scoring play was a Safety. This came on Denver’s first possession after just 12 seconds! how rare is a safety the first scoring play? well you can get 50/1 at Skybet for tomorrows big game, or 80/1 at Coral if you can predict which side will get it.
2: Michael Smith 69yd interception for a touchdown in the Second Quarter. Smith won the MVP the first defender in 11yrs to win it. It took the score from 15-0 at the half to 22-0. A two game score is redeemable in the NFL at the half, a three game score is almost inconceivable.
3: Percy Harvin returns the second half kick off back 87yds for a Touchdown. It is 22-0 at the half, the coaches will have a game plan on how to get back into the game, and you kick the ball off and seconds later Harvin as gone to the house, BANG! 29-0 in the space of a few minutes either side of half time and the Super bowl as gone.
Momentum in any sport is crucial, especially in the NFL. Their are three key areas, Offence, Defence and Special teams. This game could come down to who can make the big play, a big clutch catch (like a certain David Tyree) or kick return. There is no tips on who will win this match it is literally 50-50 it is what you like, who you like matchup wise.
No Superbowl as ever gone to Overtime, this could or at the very least could be decided inside the last minute, on a last minute field goal or a last minute drive. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 27-24, 23-20 game either way.
My advice is get your takeaway orders in early, get the beers in the fridge early, and enjoy what surely will be a truly great game.
