JAN 31: JOHNB’S RACING TIPS AND CHAT

Racing_Betfred

JOHNB bagged two winners on Friday and only the cancellation of Catterick scuppered his chances of a bumper full house and 17-1 double.

The double was reduced to a single and that landed when nap Le Rouquin, advised at 2-1, took victory. The third tip also won at 4-1 so three points were staked on Friday for a profit of eight and that brings our man’s January deficit down to 15.97 points.

On to Saturday’s action and JohnB rates the nap one of his strongest for a long time.

Saturday’s Tips

Lingfield 2:55
Energia Flavio 3-1 NAP/NB Bet365 (joint NAP & NB so double stake)

4:05
Major Muscari 5-1 Bet365

Sandown 3:00
Imperial Leader 8-1 Boylesports

Also advising two half point doubles: Energia Flavio & Imperial Leader 35-1 Boylesports and Energia Flavio & Major Muscari at 23-1 Bet365

Energia Flavio (NAP)

This is just a case of a far better horse in a weak race. Since Energia Flavio made the move from Brazil to Britain he has been running against far better horses in class 2 handicaps until last time when dropped to a class 3 he was just collared on the line by Pearl Nation.

His jockey didn#t do him any favours by running the guts out of him early on when taken on for the lead. Better jockey on this time and in a race where there is no real frontrunners. The field is full of horses that like to sit back and if Martin Harley is clued up here he could steal an easy lead. We know after the last race Energia Flavio can run from the front and this race is 140 yards shorter than last time but the main point is there isn’t a horse like Pearl Nation here so I can’t see it being caught.

Good luck everyone and post your racing tips and chat here.

For everyone its not on the header but i have also advised another 0.5 point double with Energia Flavio & Major Muscari at 23/1 bet365

  4. johnb 2 years ago

John, what’s your opinion on headgear been applied to horses? I do believe that hoods work on some horses but don’t believe in eye shields as you very rarely see a horse win with them

  18. johnb 2 years ago

Cooldude eyeshields are only really used on horses with eye problems
they dont alter the vision & are mainly used on all weather to stop sand getting into the eyes

    Headgear

Various types of aids and equipment can be used on racehorses in order to bring about improved performance.

    Sometimes these aids may work very well, and a horse may wear a certain type of headgear regularly thereafter;
sometimes such aids may work but only for a short period.

Headgear may not have the desired effect at all.

A racecard will indicate if a horse is wearing headgear by including the first letter of the particular equipment next to a horse’s name – for example, a ‘b’ next to a horse’s name denotes that runner is wearing blinkers.

    Blinkers
A hood with cups around the eyes, designed to reduce distraction and limit a horse’s vision to aid concentration.

    Cheekpieces
Strips of sheepskin designed to make a horse concentrate more by partially obscuring its rear vision. Storming Home, winner of the 2002 Champion Stakes, wore cheekpieces.

    Ear Plugs
Usually made of cotton, foam or rubber, these aids reduce surrounding noise and are used to better control nervous or ‘highly-strung’ horses.
Ear plugs are now used more widely in British racing given the greater influx of horses from France – particularly over the jumps – where the instruments have been used widely for many years. Ear plugs must not be removed during the race.

    Hood
A covering for the whole of a horse’s head, including the ears, that does not impair vision at all but blocks out noise.
Horses have an excellent sense of hearing and hoods are designed to help a horse of a nervous disposition to relax.

    Tongue Tie/Tongue Strap
A device fitted around a horse’s tongue to prevent the tongue lifting and obstructing air-flow.
A tongue tie may be applied if a horse is suspected to have a problem with its breathing. Tongue ties also prevent a horse putting its tongue over the bit, which can compromise a jockey’s control and potentially jeopardise the safety of horse and rider.

    Visor
Very similar to blinkers, but with a small slit in both eye-cups to allow for some lateral vision.

Johnb you should spend more time getting you’re figures right, doesn’t look good that a tipster who’s getting payed can’t work out his stats.

Clarky, firstly they are John’s figures and not Scott’s. I’ve no reason to doubt them – I’d doubt you before him to be honest.

    • Chairman 2 years ago

Haha figures. Clarky I know a few accountants, none of them no a thing about horses! John B clearly knows his horses and that’s all that matters. Two lovely priced winners today John B well done.

  23. Cooldude 2 years ago

John very informative. You would often hear a trainer or jockey say he didn’t face the blinkers or he didn’t face the cheek pieces today. John what does this mean?

  24. Cooldude 2 years ago

  32. G 2 years ago

Hi John. Hope you are well mate. Having now looked over the 16.05 at Lingfield I’d be keen to hear your thoughts on MAJOR MUSCARI. To me on initial glance I think BOOKMAKER looks the one to be one and after a bit more of a look into it I can’t help but feel that he’s got the best chance on paper. He drops down a grade after a creditable 3rd in a tougher race over today’s trip at Kempton lto. He came from mid-pack and I think watching it the jockey produced him a bit late especially as it’s not so easy to get away with that Kempton imo, though he made up plenty ground and was only beaten 3L into third by rivals 11 and 12lbs his superior. Today returns to scene of his last win and has claimer Aaron Jones back on who rode the last win. He’s down in grade and only 3lb above that last win. There’s maybe doubts over his preferred trip but he looked to get every yard of the 7f lto and had the jockey pushed him sooner he’d maybe have finished closer, and he only used the whip once and at the point the race had been put to bed, not a great ride from Carson. The race might just be setup for him here today as well as there will be plenty pace no doubt as surely BERTIE BLUE BOY will try to make the running from a decent draw, it may set it up for BOOKMAKER. I see your angle on Lundie deserting BERTIE for MUSCARI. There’s a form line between MAJOR MUSCARI and BOOKMAKER through BALTIC PRINCE – most recently BOOKMAKER finished ahead of him in receipt of 8lbs, whilst previously BLATIC PRINCE beat MAJOR MUSCARI by 5L but in receipt of 2lbs. Hard to say conclusively but would be keen to hear your thoughts if you get time. Cheers and good luck!

  33. dawnisrising 2 years ago

john i know your up to your neck in answering questions….but can you give me your thoughts on why you think mindyourownbusiness might not win?

  34. matt 2 years ago

John b been following the all weather racing lately. It seems that a horse wins a race then gets raised xxx lbs. They don’t win a race. Some horses are good enough to defy the weight but have know where further to run on too. They
don’t win a race until they drop back In weight. Just wondered what your thoughts are?

Haha maybe I though because it was a early price ???? But it allowed me to more on the other horse in that race ? Might make that call now it’s bugging me haha

The price differences on Sea Lord is pretty big, 8s on PP and 5s on LB

Just been on phone to William hill and there said my account has not been limited that it is a trader decision how much the allow a punter to place on a bet and have limited the stakes to £83.33 for everybody not just me for sea Lord NEVER heard of this before apart from special bets . tells me there think it might win. Haha I hope so will be watching the betting
