IT was a mixed night with some winners and losers on a difficult card.
Man United took time to get going against Hull but by only winning 2-0 that voided my -2AH Super Single.
The second goal did though give me a winner on the app and the members' Bet of the Day.
Jordan and Greg were unlucky with their goals bets and it was a night when results in the cups reminded us to be wary. For example Atletico Madrid losing at home to Las Palmas but still going through on aggregate and Monaco being held at Sochaux but winning on penalties.
Tonight sees the second EFL Cup semi-final and I've posted a separate preview on Southampton v Liverpool.
Juventus meet Atalanta and Fiorentina face Chievo in the Italian Cup and in Spain the big game is Barcelona v Athletic Bilbao as the Nou Camp superstars attempt to over come a 2-1 deficit while in one of two French League Cup matches PSG entertain Metz.
As usual it's all about team news. If these were league games I'd be confident about convincing wins for Fiorentina, Juventus and PSG and possibly Alaves at home to Deportivo after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
So while I've picked out a treble you might want to see exactly how strong Fiorentina go before placing it.

Can’t quite fathom this one, but then again my Spanish League 2 knowledge is on par with my knowledge on Quantum Physics.
League leaders Levante will travel to relegation scrapping Murcia for a game that was postponed on the 18th of December due to a waterlogged pitch. Murcia have lost six of their last ten and hold the worst home record in the league so far. Levante on the other hand boast nine wins in their last fifteen, and hold the best home record, and second in away standings. If Levante want promotion, they should be winning this game, but there is also the threat of Murcia trying to avoid relegation. The home side have one clean sheet at home this season, a 4-0 win against ex La Liga whipping boys Almeria. Levante have score in seven of nine on the road this season, and I can’t see Murcia keeping them out today. I think there is value on the goal time with 365 offering 62 minutes for Levante to get a goal, which in theory seems reasonable considering table positions and form, but what do I know?

Hi Jordan, I’m quite new to the site, but I live in Oviedo, Spain, where I’m a season ticket holder. Therefore I’ve seen my fair share of games. When levante came to us it was one of the most comfortable games we’ve seen and I have to say Real Oviedo are not a good team at all. The one thing I’ve learnt about the Spanish second division living here is to not bet on it haha, there are so many upsets, and also loads of 0-0 bore draws.
Hi Alex. Funny you’ve said something as I was hoping someone would know a bit more. I just think for the time (almost two thirds of the game) against the opposition it has a decent chance. If this was a Premier League tie you’d probably have the away side @ 1/2 or shorter, so there is obviously some form of risk involved but that’s the case in all betting. Athletic take a 2-1 lead into this 2nd Leg thanks to an excellent display at San Mames last week. Goals from Aduriz and Inaki Williams put them 2-0 up and they briefly had the Catalans on the racks before a brilliant Leo Messi free-kick gave Barcelona a priceless away goal that ensures they head into this match as favourites to progress.
Backing Barcelona to win used to be one of the safest bets in football but the picture has been a bit more complicated this season. Again they needed Messi to provide a moment of magic to rescue a point at Villarreal on Saturday but it sill leaves them with a large amount of ground to make up in La Liga, which only adds to the significance of this game for under-pressure coach Luis Enrique. Messi right now is the only major bright spark for Barcelona and if they are going to turn their season around, you sense he will be the inspiration. He certainly is likely to be the key man on the night and backing Messi to score twice or more could be a decent punt here.
What makes this tie even more intriguing than it might have been is that despite their lead, Athletic really can’t afford to just sit back and try to protect it. A 1-0 home win would see Barcelona through on away goals and given the prospect of Barcelona not scoring in any game is always an extremely slim one, Athletic’s best hope will be if they can find an away goal or two. They do have some tools that can hurt Barcelona as we saw in the 1st Leg, with the pace of Williams one major threat. They also have an aerial advantage in set-piece situations and both teams have scored in 7 of their last 10 matches.
Barcelona’s defending hasn’t been that convincing at times, with their problematic midfield as much a source of that as anything. Even Andres Iniesta made a sloppy pass last week, which led to one of Athletic’s goals and they are making too many mistakes all over the pitch for a team of their quality. They’ve conceded exactly 1 goal per game in La Liga this term and they are up against one of the best forwards in the division here and a team that has genuine reason to chase a goal.

Been spending a bit of time looking at something with value in Fridays Leeds V Derby.
As you’ll know, we had a bit of a horror show against Norwich with a 3 goal drubbing, and then I go and back against my beloved Derby to lose against WBA in the FA cup ( a pointless competition that neither side can afford to waste any time competing for ) – Derby let me down again and couldn’t even bloody well lose that one. 2 goals in 3 minutes saw the Rams mug WBA of a slot in round 4. The reward – a home fixture against a seriously misfiring Leicester. Leicester are trying their best to regain the form that saw them take the premiership and I’m sure both Derby and Leicester will be thinking ” that damned FA cup ” – cluttering up the end of the season ( another spanner in the works for derby to complicate our season end ).
Anyway : Leeds. Up until 2 seasons back, I think we’d won all but 1 of our previous 8 or 9 encounters, but Leeds are back being competitive. Leeds are in the form that the Rams were in just 3 weeks back, the rams last 5 games is not so ” fairytale “. I think it’s 2 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss.
What is interesting though is although on paper, this game looks a nailed on btts NO, Derby have actually had 5x btts’s this season, and 4 of them have been on the road.
Unless Derby scrape a narrow win – a 1 nil or a 2-1 ( I’d take either before a ball is kicked ) – I’m inclined to think regardless of how this result goes ( and it really can be one of those any way matches ) – btts is much more likely.
Derby made some changes in that last match, but the most notable was Kamara in for Johnny Russell ( Russell’s been a bit off of late ) and Kamara turned their full back inside out. Kamara will probably start ahead of Russell, not sure if Hughes’s 2 match ban includes the FA cup ties, if it does, he should also be back in. IF that happens, on 10 yellows, you can be sure the little scamp will end up in the ref’s notebook. The bookies rarely draw the line in the sand low with the cards market in matches involving both these teams, but the biggest surprise the last time these 2 teams met ( we won 1 nil ) – but Leeds never got a single player booked !!! wtf !! How dare they.

Internacional enter the game clear favourites at prices of around 2/9 and unless you’re off your rocker, there’s no point in backing the WDW markets here.
I’ve done a little bit of groundwork on Internacional’s opponents here and although they’re not household names, they do have some pedigree within the tournament historically.
They reached the 2nd round last year and admirably pushed Sao Paulo to penalties after a 2-2 90 minute scoreline. This after knocking two past an established Figueirense Youth side in the previous game.

At first glance I’d say Reading were a good bet – want to look into further in the morning.
