I DON'T know what to make of Saturday's card. At first glance I liked it but the more I studied games the more I was put off.
Sometimes I'm guilty of overthinking things and as an experiment one week I'd love to put tips from gut feeling and just 30 minutes or studying. I wonder how they'd fare.
Friday's Super Single was a double on Dortmund and Standard Liege at 11-10 and came in after a big sweat so that's a decent start to the weekend. I was always pleased not to back against Rangers because it would have been easy to be attracted by a massive price on Raith but as I said there are signs of improvement in the Ibrox side's displays.
I put up a Super Single shortlist earlier and from that I've decided to go with Ipswich at home to Reading. Ipswich are superb at home and what convinced me was Wigan's 3-0 defeat at home to Charlton – days after they won at Reading.
Reading though have been better away from home but Ipswich, with Darly Murphy dazzling, can pick up the points they need to stay in the promotion chase. In the Daily Record I went for Bournemouth and hope both are winners.
For the Top Treble I'm focusing on three sides pushing for titles – Derby at home to Sheffield Wednesday, Aberdeen at home to St Mirren and Brechin at Stirling.
Derby and Aberdeen are on the homes alongside Sheffield Utd against Coventry, Swindon against Crawley and Inverness against Kilmarnock.

You know what Mr F, I’d be really interested to see you do a separate article where you just put tips up based mainly on your gut instinct following a small amount of research. Something I find following your tips, as well of posters like Greg and Raal, is the ones I simply like the sound of and back tend to win, whereas the ones I’m not completely sure on but back based on my faith in your ‘tipping’ ability seem to win less often.
Also for my own bets I often find the ones I bet on based simply on research are less likely to fare well as opposed to bets I like the odds of before any research, and then use research to see if the odds are good. So it would be intriguing to see the results if you did decide to do such an experiment.
Mainly, however, I think it just comes down the simple fact betting is very much based on luck. You can do all the research in the world and find a great value bet only for it to fail, whereas you could get a monkey to point at a bet on a screen and it could win. Which is precisely why it is so important to follow a points system such as the one you advise.
Fab, I think it’s worth doing one week but I may put up the real tips as well and have a comparison.

Deeman I backed Scunthorpe a couple of weeks ago when they were 3/1 at a completely out of form Leyton Orient.
They were unbeaten away from home for three months.
Since that game they have lost at home to Oldham, drew away at Coventry and have won back to back home games against Swindon and Chesterfield.
Scunthorpe’s win against Chesterfield was Tuesday night. A whole 24 hours after Preston were fighting for their life against United.
What I’m saying is don’t back Scunthorpe on the basis that Preston will be tired, base it on the fact that Scunthorpe haven’t lost an away game for 3-4 months.
Its worth noting that Preston have only won 1 of their last 6 at home in all competitions.
With Preston drawing 4 of their last 6 at home my pick would be Scunthorpe double chance at 13/10. May very well be my super single after studying other potentials.

Ryan- I do the complete opposite. I don’t think there’s a tried and tested way of doing things. Each to their own I say as long as you enjoy doing it.
In my case I’d rather look for a bit of value if I can these days as I’d rather lose small on bigger odds than big on smaller odds.

I’ve seen your tips and they are pretty good Sean so I won’t know your approach. This is a hard game and if there was a rulebook, we would all be rich. Sadly it takes a lot of years of learning, practice and patience to win at this game.
Ryan I find stats don’t make a difference but still use form over h2h. I can get all the stats I can find, write up a 3 paragraph essay on why I think it’ll win and it fail miserably. When I first came on here I used to do a Premier League Preview every weekend with like 10 different tips but now I don’t bother as it can fail with the best information possible. Form, gut and a bit of luck helps me beat the bookies (most of the time) I will say betting on US sports has a much higher win percentage which I’ve found will following the NFL and NBA this season.

Man United are not hitting the heights were used to seeing, but tend to score against Swansea. They have netted on their last three trips to there and have scored in eight of their last ten away league games, an early goal could open this up and I will take a chance on Man United O1.5g 11/10.
In La Liga Barcelona have, like they do with most teams have dominated Malaga winning 12 out of 13 previous meetings and finding value in this game is tough. My Saturday goal scorers starts with Christian Benteke. Tim Sherwood got Adebayor going at spurs and he needs to do the same with Benteke. He is a goal scorer playing in a struggling side, he as however scored in 2 in 3 against Stoke and at home with Stoke missing some players at the back 19/10 Ladbrokes is were I am going.
Chelsea are expected to beat Burnley quite easily, however they have had a tough game in Paris this week. Burnley have scored at Man United and at times they dominated that game. They have scored in the league and cup games at Tottenham and at Man City so just like last week Danny Ings looks worth backing at 5/1 Betfred. I tipped him to score at Man United and I will stick by him again to score at the bridge, he has scored 5 in his last 6 premier league games.
Finally I will take Ipswich Daryl Murphy 7/5 Stan James. He has scored 10 goals in 16 away games, and has recently rediscovered his form with 3 goals in his last 2 games. Reading are a bit hit and miss at the moment and because I fancy an Ipswich win, it is more likely that Murphy is on the score sheet if they are to prevail.

On the Sydney-Mariners game I agree with petermac on -1 AH, Sydney have looked very good going forward in the games since the break and central coast also played in the ACL in midweek so I can’t see anything other than a Sydney win with goals.
Looking for some value I quite like the $2.50 for Janko to score anytime. He has scored 8 from 14 this season (13 starts) and scored in the last 3 games (including 2 pens). In games Sydney have scored in this season Janko is 8 from 9 (scoring in 6 of the 9 games). In his career he is 113 from 200 games only starting 123 of those. Seems good value to me against a weak mariners team.

I’m not looking forward to the Wednesday coming up against a Derby attack of Ince, Bent, Russell, Martin, Hendrick, Hughes, Lingard, etc.
We’re missing Glenn Loovens through injury, who along with Tom Lees has been solid for us at centre half and if it weren’t for them two and Kieren Westwood, we’d be nowhere near the position we’re in now. Loovens will be replaced by either Kamil ‘kamikaze’ Zayatte or Claude Dielna, who are both prone to individual errors. Jose Semedo is likely to be missing too so Sam Hutchinson will come in for him – he’s a decent player but he’s been sent off 3 times in 19 games he’s played for us! I can’t find any cards markets on 365, but if they’re available with another bookie then it’s worth taking that stat into account.
We’ve only won once in 2015 (against a terrible Forest side before Pearce got the boot) and very rarely get anything at Pride Park. Derby have scored 2 or more against us in the last 5 meetings there, winning three of those 3-0. I don’t like betting against my own team but I can’t see past a win for Derby today.

With Middlesborough dropping 3 points at home against a side they really ought to be beating, it has given Derby a huge favour, and whilst I felt derby would take 3 points from Sheff Wed today, this huge boost with Thornes return and the double whammy of Middlesborough losing and I see Derby winning with spare. I know Sheff Wed have had the most 0-0 draws in all 4 tiers of English footy, but I cannot see them getting a point from us.
I would not be surprised if we keep a cleansheet today, but would be more inclined to side with a straight -1 handicap. Ince and Bent are on fire – what inspirational loan signings especially considering Martins knee ligament damage.
Ipswich should be winning today having improved their consistency this past 2 or 3 games whilst teams around them have had patchy form.
Brentford and Bournmouth in my opinion are two very similar teams, theyre physical and will both get stuck in and I would not be surprised if it finishes all square. The size and the depth of squads at this time of the season could be the difference between a strong finish to the league or a patchy one.

l gettings – I hope it comes in for you mate! I’ve been following Lens since last year because their owner was meant to be buying Wednesday. To cut a long story short, he never came up with the cash and the deal fell through.
There was something dodgy with the finances at Lens when they got promoted last season, however they were allowed to play in Ligue 1, then the courts decided last month they should be relegated at the end of the season regardless of where they finish. It’s all a bit shambolic but the morale of the Lens players must be pretty low right now, knowing that essentially they have nothing to play for between now and May unless their appeal is successful.
Additionally, Lens have a lot of injuries including their first-choice keeper. Caen aren’t great, but they’re unbeaten in five, winning 4 and drawing 1, and Lens haven’t won away in the league since October, whereas Caen have won their last 3 at home. My only slight concern is that Lens have had a few draws away from home recently and I think that’s why Caen are 23/20.

Sanjay, I haven’t looked into tomorrow’s games properly yet but both those bets seem pretty solid. Lyon have Lacazette back and are strong at home. Wolfsburg are flying and the likes of Bost and De Bruyne are in brilliant form. Hertha Berlin are a poor side and although Wolfs played a Euro tie on Thursday night I fancy them to score at least two
