IT was a case of close but no cigar for myself – and Greg – with a couple of teams proving a big letdown.
I only risked three points but all were a goal short and Greg had no joy as the Dijon couldn’t muster a single strike.
Dagenham were well fancied at a big price at Morecambe but lost 1-0 to beat the Daggers draw no bet Super Single and goals treble.
It was the same story on the Top Treble with Man City -1 and Rangers -2 coming in easily but AC Milan -1 AH was downed when they lost a Coppa Italia leveller to Crotone. The San Siro side then rubbed salt into the wounds by scoring twice without reply in extra time.
I should have gone with my Daily Record Super Single which was Rangers -2 and on the site I also recommended Rangers to score a penalty at 3-1.
My £10 to £100 challenge on the forum was both to score at Morecambe and this fixture failed to produce for the first time in five years.
Myself and Greg are going head to head with a £10 to £100 challenge on the forum starting Friday – so watch out for that.
Tonight we have the final Capital One Cup quarter-final between Southampton and Liverpool and the Anfield men are expected put out a strong side. Phillippe Coutinho is a doubt but Jordan Henderson could return.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have played better away, including victories Chelsea and Man City, and he seems keen to win every game his team plays. Southampton have lost their last two and I like Liverpool at a best 7-4 with bet365 and Betfred.
However, Saints can’t be ruled out and did draw at Anfield recently. They’re capable of putting in good displays at home so the Super Single for me is the slightly more cautious Liverpool to score 2+ at 5-3 with 888sport.
There are three Italian Cup ties and eight in Spain including Barcelona at home to Villanovense and Real Madrid at Cadiz. Barca’s is a second-leg tie after their second string drew 0-0 and the rest are first-leg affairs.
Interestingly although Lionel Messi is missing Barca have named 13 first-team players in a 16-man squad including Luis Suarez and Neymar. Full squad is: Claudio Bravo, Jordi Masip, Daniel Alves, Andres Iniesta, Suarez, Neymar, Javier Mascherano, Marc Bartra, Munir El Haddadi, Sandro Ramirez, Adriano Correia, Thomas Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu plus reserves Sergi Samper, Gerard Gumbau and Aitor Cantalapiedra.
Barca should win convincingly but finding value isn’t easy. They are no bigger than 1-33 at 888sport to win so I’ve been trying to find a value single. To score Suarez is just 2-7 and Neymar 1-3, over 3.5 match goals pays 7-15 and Barca -3 is 3-4 at 888sport.
Barca’s last three matches have been Sociedad 4-0, Roma 6-1 and Real Madrid 4-0 so with their main men back should score at least four against a Segunda B side that’s lost five in a row since the first leg.
Real Madrid have left 11 first-teamers at home for their trip to Cadiz including Cristiano Ronaldo. Team news is vital for the other ties including Gary Neville’s Valencia (and I never thought I’d write that) at Barakaldo, Sevilla at Logrones and Celta Vigo at Almeria.
All three French Ligue goals were 0-0 on Tuesday and we have six more on Wednesday including second-placed Caen at Monaco. Punters are likely to focus on unders here but it doesn’t have to be that way just because Tuesday saw a drought.
For my Top Treble I’m starting with second-placed Caen not to lose at Monaco. Caen’s three recent meetings to the Principality have been two win and a draw and they’re in fabulous form.
Add Guingamp to score 2+ at home to Reims. Guingamp should beat a side with one draw and five defeats in their last six but have netted 2+ in five of their last six home matches to I’m going with that.
Complete the treble with Porto at Uniao Madeira in the Portuguese League. Porto have won nine of their last 10 matches and will close the gap on leaders Sporting to two points if they win this game in hand.
Madeira have won just once this season but conceded just eight goals in nine matches so don’t go crazy on the handicaps.
Five points is more than I wanted to risk tonight but I’m being persuaded by Barcelona team news – if you don’t like those two leave them out.
