HIGHLIGHT of Thursday for me was a 5-1 both teams to score treble at Midtjylland, Ajax and finally Spurs.
Lowlight was not covering the two Super Singles when Partizan Belgrade led Augsburg 1-0. I advised it could be done but chose not to.
Ironically, I did use 1pt to cover the treble and of course I didn’t need to.
As usual my Friday focus is on Saturday’s games and my Daily Record column but if I get a chance I’ll put up some tips.
There are two games in the English Championship – Blackburn v Rotherham and Wolves v Nottm Forest – and in Scotland Queen of the South entertain Raith Rovers.
Real Sociedad travel to Getafe, Mainz hos Stuttgart and Caen head for Rennes in the best games on the continent. There’s a full Jupiler League card in Holland and plenty of other games to look at.
Having finished writing my Record columns for Saturday I’ve had a quick look at tonight’s games before going to the office to piece the pages together.
Blackburn are an obvious pick at home to Rotherham in the Championship. Paul Lambert’s hit the ground running at Ewood Park and is unbeaten since taking over. Rotherham are inconsistent but four defeats in six leaves them only above Bolton in the table.
Start the treble with Blackburn and add Caen not to lose at Rennes. I took this same bet for Caen at Monaco and they netted a late equaliser but then followed it up with a surprise home defeat to Lille.
Caen lie third and have been strong all season while Rennes have won just once in six outings after making a good start.
Complete the treble with Getafe not to lose at home to Real Sociedad. I watched Getafe losing 4-1 at Real Madrid last week and they did well to win the second half after facing another Bernabeu battering. They are strong at home and face a Real Sociedad side beginning to move up the table but who still look fragile on the road.
For the Super Single I’m on Mainz whose price is falling. Stuttgart have conceded at least four goals in their last three away matches in the Bundesliga and Mainz are unbeaten in their last six at home to tonight’s rivals.
Mainz are undefeated in five rounds and playing well while managerless Stuttgart look a car crash on the road. After the second of their four-goal losses boss Alexander Zorniger was axed and caretaker Jurgen Kramny is currently in charge but there hasn’t been an obvious improvement.
My December profit on the Super Singles is down to 2pts so let’s go double or quits on Mainz.
