IT'S back. The English season kicks off on Friday with Fulham v Newcastle and betting interest in the game will be massive.

I've already tipped Newcastle for the Championship title and bet365 report they're the best backed team in the history of the league.

Rafael Benitez's men are 7-4 from 5-1 and 100-1 to go through the campaign unbeaten.

Bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth said: “There has been a monster-like gamble on Newcastle. After laying 5-1 and all rates down we’ll be praying for the latter.”

I put Friday's Super Single the other day and went for Newcastle to score 2+ at 21-20 with William Hill. To win they're the same price and I expect them to do so against a side who have lost Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele, the players who netted most of their goals in last season's disappointing campaign.

It's been well documented Newcastle have spent £45million on new recruits and striker Dwight Gayle and Scotland midfielder Matt Ritchie are the standout captures.

Gayle could score first at 13-2 with bet365 and I like Ritchie, who bagged four goals for Bournemouth in the Premier League last season and 24 in the previous two campaign with them in the Championship. To score at Craven Cottage he is 11-4 at Betfred.

Other games to look at include NEC v PEC in Holland and Oostende v Bruges in Belgium and there are loads of other games including Dundalk at Galway in the League of Ireland.

Dundalk will be well backed but may suffer a reaction from the exertions of beating BATE on Tuesday to set up a Champions League play-off with Legia Warsaw. They missed the Celtic tie they wanted with the Scots facing Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Man City meeting Steaua Bucharest.

It's back to being a usual Friday for me so I've got to concentrate on weekend tips and columns. However, I've looked a out a small treble but don't have time to put up much reasoning.

I've been arguing Newcastle's merits with Johnb who thinks they're to short for the title but I believe strongly so let's start with them on the treble. Add Tromson at home to Aalesund and this is taking primarily on the visitors' shocking away record – seven defeats out of nine and 21 goals conceded including 14 in their last three.

Complete the treble with btts at NEC v PEC – the last two meetings have been 2-2 and 1-5.

My two 13-2 Europa League trebles on Thursday were losers so it's a small profit for the month.

    Same as last night, Dallas playing a very strong line up against Real Esteli who have lost 7 of their 8 road games in this competition and never won in its history. Dallas really should win this by 3 goals but Portland did get shocked last night. Esteli haven’t played any football for 3 months too. Worth noting all favourites have scored before their goal time over the first round of the competition with Dallas probably playing the strongest side I’ve seen for the US teams.

    Guidelines only.

    Dallas goal before 26:00 @ 5/6 @ 365

    Here we go again then and its so easy to get carried away early doors – hard to resist a bet at times but despite the hype, it most often pays to keep stakes lower until true form patterns emerge.

    Tomorrow’s opener is a perfect example and no doubt there’ll be folk up and down the country throwing big money on the game and acting up like a dog with two dicks.

    I’ve made my antepost fancies clear over the last month and Newcastle still look the ones and here’s a few points to consider which I have either put together or unashamedly plaguerised from ‘tinternet.

    Newcastle have done well in pre-season, winning 4 of their 5 friendly matches and netting 2 or more goals in all of their games. They are unbeaten in 11 matches, including those friendlies and their 6 final Premier League games last season.

    As for Fulham, their first two seasons back at this level have been very disappointing, with two bottom half finishes and 162 goals conceded, far more than any other Championship team has conceded over the past two years.

    BUT!

    Add into the mix that Newcastle have a poor record at Craven Cottage, losing their last 5 and the fact that a massive 70% of Fulham’s games in the last campaign saw BTTS so maybe a bit of value against the swathes of money for the Geordies?

    I’m taking on three bets:

    NEWCASTLE WIN…EVENS

    BTTS & OVER 2.5 MGS…6/5

    NEWCASTLE OVER 2.5 TGS…3/1

    Good luck.

      I think only time will tell if Newcastle have spent well. They have to get off to a flyer tonight. They have rather shamefully been relegated yet Mike Ashley is so intent on protecting his investment he’s funding his £45 million spending spree no doubt with the money he’s saved in Sports Direct with the 0 hours contracts. Yay.

      We’ve seen Chelski and Man City buy their way to the title in the premiership and its hard to really argue that Newcastle have laid down the financial marker. I think Harry Rednapp did they same when Pompey romped to the championship title by buying up overpaid stars from freefalling clubs for peanuts. He got the title but left them in a shocking financial mess. Look at where they are now.

      Fulham have been a big clusterf*ck this past 2 seasons, the old OXO joke – chicken stock, beef stock – laughing stock. And you’re right, Dembele and McCormack gone and they’re already on the back foot.

      I won’t get carried away though and say Newcastle will romp the league, but I will say they’ll most probably get promoted. Tonight though is all about mopping up a team that’s ripe for the taking. The craven cottage head to head stats, well I’d ignore them. But a straight Newcastle win @ evens will be a ” that’ll do nicely for me “.

      Newcastle have a losing mentality going back years and will find it hard to shake off.
      This is a bear pit of a league and ultimately Benitez will move on to calmer waters, probably before the end of the season when he realises this is like no other 2nd tier league in Europe.
      As far as winning the league I say ‘lay lay lay.
      As for tonight correct score spread of 0-1. 1-1. 1-2 with 1-1 my preferred score.

    Belgian Pro League

    Club Brugge over 0.5 team goals (Friday)
    Standard Liege v St. Truiden under 3.5 match goals (Saturday)
    Kortrijk under 1.5 team goals (Sunday)

    Treble @ 1.98 with 888 – 15.5 points

    Club Brugge are the main contenders for the title to me. They have scoring ability and the best defence. They should score a goal at Oostende.

    There is lots of pressure on the shoulders of Standard coach Ferrera. It looks like there is nothing changed since their bad results last season. They played 2 games this season and they didn’t impress at all in those games. I was a bit concerned backing Standard to score a goal in their first game. They got 2, but it were 2 giveaways by the Westerlo defence. Their opponents St. Truiden are more solid at the back and got a 1-0 win in their first game after a howler by the Lokeren goalkeeper. They were the lowest scoring team in the league last season and the last time this fixture saw 4 goals was in 2009. Standard also sold their topscorer Santini to Caen this week. I can’t see St. Truiden score and certainly can’t see Standard scoring 4 in this form. I think we will see a hard fought 1-0 or 2-0 win for Standard.

    Kortrijk travel to Anderlecht on Sunday. They played Gent in their first game and parked the bus. They got away with a point and I think they will try to do the same at Anderlecht. Anderlecht don’t concede many at home and Kortrijk haven’t scored more than 1 at Anderlecht in the last 10 attempts (back to 2008)

    Malaysian Premier League

    UiTM v Malacca Utd – 9:45am

    UiTM are really struggling, third bottom with only 1 win in their last 8 matches scoring 5 ans conceding 19 in that period. Today they face in form and top of the league Malacca who have won their last 6 scoring 20 and conceding 6 in the process.

    Kuala Lumpur FA v Kuantan FA – 9:45am

    Both teams in pretty mixed form but what stands out here is the whopping volume of goals each team has see in their matches. In the last 10 league matches Kuala Lumpur has seen 38 goals while Kuantan has seen 51 – both teams involved in only one game during the same period which didn’t see both teams scoring.

    Bet: Double @ 2.61/1

    Kuala Lumpur FA v Kuantan FA – Over 3.0,3.5 Goal Line

    I really can’t understand all the hype surrounding Newcastle,
    Remember, in the main these are the players that got the team relegated with quite honestly gutless performances last season and they were a disgrace to great fans,
    They were a team which showed no fight even when Benitez took over they couldn’t even beat a very bad Villa side,

    In the Championship you are going to play 2 or 3 games a week where every match is a battle and you need strong players mentally & physically that are prepared to leave everything on the pitch,
    Are you really convinced Newcastle can do that?

    I have said before that there is a reason why the preseason favourites don’t do well in the Championship and that has do be partly down to pressure and temperament because the vast majority of favourites are teams that have come down with a few uninspiring extras coming in,
    Ciaran Clark £5m from Villa, Villa must laughing all the way to the bank,
    I am not convinced with Jesus Gamez,
    Grant Hanley, I think there are better players out there that Newcastle could have got like Tommy Elphick who has gone to Villa, I know Hanley can play in midfield but he’s a defender and in my opinion Elphick is better

    Gayle looks like Newcastles best signing but although they have the stronger squad on paper, I am just not convinced and odds of 7/4 to win the Championship are outrageous,
    The key to successful gambling is getting winners at the right prices and 7/4 Newcastle is not a right price

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

      You missed out Matt Ritchie who should be a great signing.
      I get what you’re saying but it’s better backing a winner at a short price than a loser at a long one.

    • 8 years ago

      In fairness @johnb ciaran Clark is a player on the up, has played well in Irish set up and has improved drastically from dark days of villa ! Great move for him, get your opinion though Newcastle deserve to have doubters after last year,time for them to put it to bed ?

    • elvis parsley 8 years ago

      I fully agree John.
      Barmy all these fancy wagers on these gutless flops.
      7-4 to win the league is a joke.
      When did they shake off their losing mentality ?
      I must have missed that one.

      Sheff weds to reach play offs my only dabble here and maybe derby for top 2 if they play for the full season and not 30 games.

    As a Newcastle fan we have never had hope for this club since Sir Bobby Robson was manager. Mike Ashley has given full control to Rafa in regard to brining playing in and out of the club. Winjandum has left (£25 million) and sissoko will leave if they get the correct fee. We have recruited better then anyone in the league and also retained a lot of players from last season. Also worth noticing Rafa said in a phone in on Wednesday night that he has turned down two offers for Ayoze Perez ( I will be backing him anytime to score tonight). We should be nailed on for winning the championship and anything different will be a disaster in most fans eyes. Rafa Benitez may not seem like he should be cut out for the championship. But he got promoted while he was manager of Tenerife on the last game of the season. That included Sevilla, Betis and A.Madrid. The manager and the players know what needs to be done and will be focused for the game tonight. Young lascelles has been given the captaincy. He is a young lad at 22 years old. He has been saying all the right things and shows great passion for the club although he has played less then 20 games for us. Could be an outside bet for anytime scorer tonight, with fulhams well documented terrible defensive record and he scored against Swansea last season after he was fired up after embarrassing performance the team had against Southampton.

    I hope my club can get a convincing victory tonight and we can all celebrate together with winning Bet slips. Sorry for the long post.

    Parnu v Tarvas KO 5pm

    The bottom two meet and it’s not often you’ll see me backing Parnu to win but they seem to have turned the corner and have collected 7 of their 10 points over the last 6 weeks! That includes defeating table toping Levedia and getting a point against a 3rd top Kalju! The visitors are horrendous! One solitary point from their 21 league games! Parnu have won 5 of the last 6 meetings between the sides and should be looking to make it another win given their upturn in fortunes and how terrible Tarvas are!

    Auxerre v Ajaccio KO 7pm

    Was on Ajaccio last week in their season opener, despite battering Brest, they couldn’t find away past their goal keeper who had one of those games where we saved everything not to mention an open goal miss from Ajaccio late on! Last weeks opening fixtures yielded an embarrassing 7 goals with 6 matches ending 0-0! Expecting Ajaccio to be up at the top end of the league come May and I think they are good enough to tracks to Auxerre and avoid defeat, escoailly if they play they way they did last season!

    Parnu to WIN
    Ajaccio Double chance

    Double pays 23/10

    Fulham v Newcastle KO 7.45pm

    Every man and their dog appear to be on Rafa’s men! For me I’ll stick to goal and a market that has served me well when Fulham are at home is a late goal to be scored! Newcastle are the late goal kings at St James’s park but Fulham are close behind! I think this could be right with Newcastle scoring late on to seal the win!

    For all the Irish ?, Kilkenny v Waterford, hurling championship on Sunday, noticed strange handicap,
    Kilkenny -4 is 5/6, was 10/11, think if they are on form can win this easy, they are Waterford’s bogey team ,Waterfords system way too one dimensional,
    was at hurling final last year Kilkenny blew Galway out of it even when galway played an unreal first half !

      Guy I work with is a big Dundalk fan and he was saying he’d take anyone in the next round bar Celtic and Salzburg. I’ll see what he thinks of their chances now. He was saying Dundalk got 5 million just for getting to this stage and will get a further 10 million if they get to the groups, when they were only given 300,000 for winning their league. Unbelievable stuff!

      Think there is value for the Young Boys at home to Monchengladbach too. The Germans were awful away from home last season and could struggle on the plastic pitch as did Shakthar.

    I hoped some people stayed up for the Olympic matches yesterday. Nigerian v Japan ending 5-4 and possibly one of the best games of football I’ve seen.

    • dt4854 8 years ago

      craigyboy – Nigeria were 5/4 to score in the second half, despite their first half performance. I bet some people took them to the cleaners.

    • craigyboy 8 years ago

      Crazy Odds! Can’t wait for the next lot of fixtures. Made a killing on the China v Fiji game beforehand as well. Backed over 7.5 goals when it went 4-0 at odds of about 12/1. If it hadn’t have been for that game I’d have probably gone to bed and missed the later game!

    • dt4854 8 years ago

      Ditto. I thought that the Nigeria game would be a damp squib, but then the first 12 minutes happened!

    Following on from @gregbrowning here
    Austria first division , Sv Horn V Sv kapfenberg 5:30
    Sv kapfenberg goal before 57, 5/6
    Judging from form and recent h2h Kapfenberg have decent chance here of picking up a draw and IMO draw no bet 13/8 has a chance, goal before 26 5/6 also as both teams seem to like early goals !

    • 8 years ago

  29. GregBrowning 8 years ago

    Thephenom no NAP tonight mate!

    Will have one for tomorrow

    Given that interest rates at at an all time low and the banks will give you pretty next to nothing for your money if anyone has some money burning a hole in their pocket and want to make a 10 month investment, get it on the following ante-post

    Aberdeen without rangers and Celtic 8/11

    Hibs to win the championship 1/1

    Aberdeen will finish in the top three that’s pretty much a certainty and as for Hibs, they won’t blow. It this year

    Nothing flash about it but the it’s a solid double and a sound investment in my humble opinion!

    It’s pays just under 5/2

    P.s All the best to everyone for the season ahead, great to have real football back ??

    Voluntari – Botosani
    Voluntari :
    – FC Voluntari managed to win, 4-0, away at Chiajna, in a match counting for round number two in Ligue 1;
    – After the first two rounds, FC Voluntari have gained 3 points and is 3rd in Liga 1 after Dinamo and Pandurii;
    – In the last 16 official games played, FC Voluntari recorded just one draw 1-1 away at Concordia Chiajna last season;
    – Both matches played between the two teams in Voluntari’s stadium, ended in 1-1 draw;
    – Voluntari have all the payers available;
    ===================================
    Botosani :
    – Botosani was won 3-1 in front of CFR Cluj in the last round of Ligue 1, in a game played last Saturday;
    – for Botosani was the first game of the season, because the first stage was to play against Rapid, who was later relegated and replaced by Poli Timisoara;
    – Botosani have shown that they can win even if they was down by 1 , scored 3 against CFR Cluj;
    – Botosani has 4 wins in their last 5 matches played in Ligue 1, and one draw 1-1 against CSMS Iasi;
    ===================================
    – Voluntari and Botosani coming after convincing wins in which they showed a solid game and in this match I expect to see goals from both sides;
    – Botosani starts with the first chance, but I think we’ll see at least one goal from FC Voluntari, so my prediction for this match is both to score, as happened in the last 4 games between the two teams;

    Early one for sunday – Fiji were destroyed 8-0 by South Korea in the Olympics yesterday with three goals scored in 90 seconds alone! Their defence was literally all over the place. Next up for them is the defending champions Mexico who should be expected to tear them a new one. Fiji did well not to concede for 30 mins before the floodgates opened but I suspect Mexico will be a lot more ruthless especially after their 2-2 draw with Germany.

    The three bets Im taking now are:

    Fiji U23 0 Mexico U23 10 – 40/1
    Fiji U23 0 Mexico U23 11 – 66/1
    Fiji U23 0 Mexico U23 12 – 125/1 (already dropped from 300/1 this morning and getting shorter all the while)

    Prices with Bet365

    Good luck all

    • dt4854 8 years ago

      Bullseye – Fiji’s keeper kept them in it in the first half. If he doesn’t perform as well against Mexico, they could easily concede more than 12. Tasty odds though! Will have a bit of that

    • theboss 8 years ago

      11/1, 18/1, 25/1 now @bullseye

    • craigyboy 8 years ago

      Fiji were a very strange team. They were well disciplined for 60mins and whether it was tiredness that kicked they then capitulated. Lets just say I’ve seen poorer teams get better results than 8-0.
      Nigeria to score two goals or more in there games will be a steady profit maker. Lethal they were.

    Negeri Sembilan v Sime Darby (Malaysia Premier League)

    Negeri or draw double chance @ 8/11

  43. 8 years ago

    As a fulham fan i thought id give my opinion on tonights game…….

    I will be betting very cautiously on this game (if at all). Fulham have looked like a new side in pre-season, i know its only pre season but when you consider how bad our defence was last year to only concede 3 goals in all of our friendlies was nothing short of a miracle. It’s not as if we were playing a bunch of mugs either, we enjoyed wins over a spurs side (obviously not a first 11 but they did play janssen and a few other known names from the first team), we smashed brighton and preston with preston playing potentially the same squad that will play in the league games, then the hugely impressive win against palace last time out who also played a very strong squad.

    As for McCormack and Dembele leaving the fans are very much split on how much we will miss them. As crazy as it sounds im not bothered one bit that either of them have gone. Dembele was very lazy at times and i remember watching many games where i felt McCormack only gave 75%. McCormack has expressed a desire to leave for at least 6 months and clearly didnt want to be there and there is a suggestion that this had a negative effect on the dressing room. What Jokanovich wants and Fulham need is a hard working side that put pressure on opponents and play as a team and i feel we are much closer to that than we have been for the last 2 seasons.

    Add the signings we have made particularly tomas kalasand odoi at the back, macdonald in midfield, sone aluko and floyd ayite going forward and making madl’s contact permanent we have a much better defence and i still believe we pose a massive goal threat in Aluko, Ayite, cairney, smith, woodrow (who i think might break through this year). This year we seem to have a decent balance of pace and skill going foward and plenty of grit at the back and in the middle.

    For me i think realistically we will do well to avoid defeat however newcastle wont have it there own way and i am 99% sure we will score at least 1 tonight.

    my suggested bets –

    BTTS
    Newcastle win and btts
    BTTS & over 2.5

    long shots

    draw
    Fulham over 1.5 team goals

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

      Good preview. Can see btts but I have to hope for a Newcastle win.
      As you say almost anything goes on the first day of the season.

    • 8 years ago

      I have actually gone with btts, i feel like it’s almost a certainty…. fulham won’t keep Newcastle out but I’m sure we will put in a good performance at a sold out cottage. Also a small point worth noting fulham always perform when on sky sports… could be a coincidence though.

      One thing is for sure it won’t be 0-0

    Thank god…..

    Football is back…. Been a painful break and hard going on the betting.

    I’ll start by trying to offer some perspective where my beloved Wolves are concerned and if it helps anyone else out then that’s great.

    As a wolves fan it’s been a mad couple of weeks and in my 30+ years supporting them I don’t think I’ve ever known things like they are.

    Theres some celebration as we’ve ditched Morgan and we can see a light at the end of the tunnel with Moxey due to disappear shortly.

    There’s been hope and maybe a little bit of disappointment in that we very nearly got a world class manager but have ended up with Walter Zenga. I’m unconvinced in honesty and only time will tell. I truly hope he can make a success of the role but my suspicion is that he may be out by January……

    We have bought in a few players and I think it will take some time for them to gel…. The rumours surrounding Peter Crouch actually interest me but in the main I don’t think a lot of Portuguese and Brazilian youngsters are what we need to get out of the championship……

    The bottom line is that we weren’t good enough last season and this season brings a much higher standard of competitor….

    For tomorrow we’re away at Rotherham and my money is on BTTS….

    • petet 8 years ago

      It might be the wake up call they need to get their season started Boss.

      I remember Norwich being thumped 6-1 in their first game in L1 after we had back to back relegations. After that we never looked back (and we nicked Colchester’s manager who architected the thumping we got on day 1)

      May be the same for Newcastle – wake up call they need.

    • theboss 8 years ago

      It was a risky game @petet to bet on if you ask me but many were tipping them to do Fulham on here and with there history against Fulham it was also a dodgy game to bet on.

    F*ck me people writing Newcastle off after one game ?

    People taking Fulham inplay because Newcastle looked crap, (When Fulham should have clearly had a man sent off) before that?

    This site is quality for pure comedic value ?

    • Johnb 8 years ago

      Wrote Newcastle off before the game,

      Should have been a pen but we all know the officials are never going to get every decision right but Newcastle never deserved to win the game anyway

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

      They weren’t great tonight but plenty of teams will lose their first game and go on to have a good season. Benitez says it’s a “wake-up call” and the good news is Newcastle have gone out to 11-5 so I can back them at a bigger price.

    • Johnb 8 years ago

      Mr f I don’t think Benitez isn’t suited to the Championship and some of the players he has brought in are not right in my opinion but we will find out next year

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

      Yeah, that’s true – one of us will be wrong and one will be right.
      He’s a good manager who will get them up in my opinion.

    • Jordan 8 years ago

      Wasn’t aimed at you personally, John. I would have replied to you. Just makes me laugh how people are saying favourites etc blah blah blah. One game doesn’t mean much and I have no idea how that player stayed on the pitch. First game of the season or not, last man is a red card offence.

    Anyone looking for an in-play could do worse to look at the second half for goals in the KH v Vataniljur game…

    1-1 with two late goals and I expect a potential avalanche this second period – most probably to KH.

    OVER 4.5 MGS…11/10 ?

    No tips as yet as no markets but just a quick heads up on a game early tomorrow Bet 365 have listed to come up in-play

    Australian NPL Youth League

    Western Pride u20 vs Gold Coast City u20 8am

    Western Pride’s are 5th out of 8 and their home record is P9 W4 D1 L4 F19 A17
    Gold Coast are top and their away record is P10 W8 D1 L1 F39 A13

    Both teams therefore have a reasonably good goals per game ratio but it’s actually the H2H record which caught my eye – starting with the most recent the scores have been

    5-0, 1-8, 5-6, 7-2, 3-1, 2-3, 4-3 – all games since 2014

    Needless to say if goal markets are available, I’ll be all over them

    Well I’m from Newcastle, I’ve followed them for years but i would not have placed a penny on them to win tonight. I took O2 GL, so lost also :( I hate Astley!! I hate what has happened to my club.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

      Plenty up here who hate Ashley too. But it’s down to Rafa now to sort it out and quickly.

    Today I see Hellas Verona winning against Foggia in the coppa italia..Looked at their team and was surprised to see many players from last season still there..Pazzini, Gomes, Jankovic, Romulo..I think they will be too much for Foggia.

    -Hellas Verona to Win

    WON! Hope somebody was following
