JOHNB’S nap was a disappointment on Tuesday and his NB a non-runner so it was two points lost on the day.

Our man is now 8.20 points down for August and hoping to get back among the winners with his Wednesday selections.

This race is largely made up of decent yet exposed sprint handicappers who tend to win in their turn but they may all find themselves facing a rather pointless task in facing the apparently rejuvenated Hoofalong who surely only needs to repeat the level of form he showed at Pontefract last week to take this 0-75 handicap.

He was certainly beginning to test the patience of his supporters this season after suffering from a few hard luck stories, none more so than when gambled off the boards up at Wetherby before his pilot fell off a few strides after coming out of the stalls.

After contesting much stronger races than this in the past couple of seasons, his handicap mark has slowly plummeted from a high of 87 to a career low of just 68 for his latest run. Connections decided to reach for the headgear that day and ride the horse aggressively and he duly hacked up, powering further and further clear in the final few furlongs to win by an impressive 8 lengths at the line.

Although drawn badly in stall 12, you would have to imagine that Phillip Makin will adopt a similar approach here and bounce him out of the stalls and go straight to the front here at a track that heavily favours prominently raced horses.

Due for a decent weight rise once the handicapper reassesses, he gets in here with just a 6lb penalty for his canny trainer and he looks to hold solid claims at a fair price given how much he has in hand off this sort of mark.

Mick Easterby has his horses in tremendous form of late with 3 winners and 8 places (from just 31 runners) in the past fortnight, figures that look all the more admirable when you consider over 70% of those came in handicap company.Phew :)

  36. SAV-DOG 1 year ago

My own opinion is that i think it always good to worry less about trying to make up or catch up on lost points. As this might have a negative effect.

Yeah it determines profit or loss for the week/month/year but to some it may only a bit of fun with a few quid their happy to lose.

I for one, am useless at picking winners but follow a lot of you guys on here all of which make the thread what it is. It is incredible how much time and effort the daily regulars put in to studying for which there are hundreds or thoasands of onlookers like me that are no doubt thankful for the extra help, like i am.

Some of you have good spells others had not so good spells but you all come off good in the end.

Anyway, i’ll just crawl back into my hole now…until there’s a few more winners im thankful fo this afternoon :)

  37. Boz 1 year ago

John. Puts his points up. because he is the tipster on this site. and has a proven long term record

De niro will stsrted his own points system up by his own decision. He is now 56 points down after only 10 days of the month. and has put pressure on himself. I hope he recovers but hes made it difficult for himself

I think point systems should be left to the oro tipsters like john

    Good luck

Points system is good for tipsters. Checks them from being complacent. Deniro had some pretty good runs and relaxed, that caused it but he always bounces back as always.

  41. Lamzat 1 year ago

Apart from JohnB, we the spectators know 3 top tipsters here that you can follow with your eyes closed and still make fantastic profit and we know the upstarts as well. Either way, it all goes with the sail.

  42. clean the bookies 1 year ago

shark expects all his to be in the money today at newton Abbot. his one in 2nd race and 4th race are his strongest chances to win

  43. SAV-DOG 1 year ago

I agree Boz, Lamzit that its good for JohnB as the sites tipster, and important for those that follow his tips religously.

But maybe not so necessary for others on here. Only my humble opinion anyway, each to their own of course.

Just my wee say in this I tried points in June and bad Idea for me as I like to tip up bigger price tips but when your points are looking not so good then you take more chances be it backing shorter prices trying to get a run together or getting points down so not for me.
Johnb always put it’s up and fair play he always pulls it back Deniro as well always comes back if down bigger and better so each to their own I say.

Alanm. Totally agree. I dont consider myself a tipster just a guy at home. Likes studying form and luckily hss the time to do it. And then just share my thoughts on here.

A pro tipster has people to answer to i just have the wife. So this is why i think a pro paid tipster only should use a points system. I am telling people bet my horses like a tipster is. Just sharing my thoughts

    Happy days

    Agreed AlanM

I think there’s just an element of undue pressure to perform and to see results. As you say, it may lead to changing the way you usually do things just to try and string something together.

  72. Alanm 1 year ago

Paddy Power offer Best Price Guaranteed on all UK & Irish Horse Racing. So if you take a price on a horse and the Starting Price (SP) is bigger we will pay you out at the bigger odds!

    For example
If you take a price of 3/1 and the selection wins with an SP of 4/1, we pay you 4/1.
If you take a price of 3/1 and the selection wins with an SP of 2/1, we STILL pay you 3/1.
So you get the best of both worlds!

Best Price Guaranteed applies to Singles & Multiples on win & each way markets only.

To make sure your bet has a guaranteed price, look for the Image icon on your betslip before confirming.

Best Price Guaranteed does not apply to:

    Bets placed at ante-post odds
    Tote bets
    Combined horse bets
    Bets on international racing

The maximum payment to any one client in respect of our Best Price Guaranteed concession is €50,000 per day.

For commercial reasons, Paddy Power reserves the right to exclude selected customers from receiving various promotions including Best Price Guaranteed.
