IT'S a big day of football with cup semi-finals north and south of the border and big games across the continent.

Tips on the FA Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Man City have been put up by Milesey and in yesterday's Daily Record I strongly tipped a City win at 7-5 with Paddy Power and William Hill.

I'm also on Man United at Stoke with the Reds 13-8 at Skybet to win to nil one of my recommended bets.

The north-east derby between Newcastle and Sunderland has draw written all over it with Skybet offering 5-2.

In the tipster contest Craig Alves needs Atletico Madrid to win to bring up and bet and they should beat Granada at home to stay in with a chance of pipping Real Madrid to runners-up spot.

Kick off the treble with Atletico at 1-3 and add Palermo against Bologna in Serie A.

This is an 11.30am kick-off so if you like it get on early. Palermo have notched impressive wins against Sampdoria – their first away in the league for two seasons – and Roma in their last two outings.

They are always strong at home – Bologna are not – and look at the past four meetings in Sicily – 4-1, 3-1, 4-1, 3-1. Going by that it should be 3-1 to Palermo who are 1-1 with Titanbet to win.

Milesey earlier tipped Cagliari to beat Inter Milan and I can see why.

Barcelona and Real Madrid should win but may rest players so complete the treble with Celtic (4-11) who should get the better of Dundee Utd at Hampden and reach the Scottish Cup Final after missing out in the League Cup.

For my both teams to score treble I like Zaragoza at home to a Barcelona side who almost always concede these days. Both should net at Cagliari v Inter too with the last two meetings finishing 2-2.

And complete a treble Lyon v Toulouse which I'm allowed to take because it's not the early game. Lyon are on a poor run but while they might not win they should score against a side whose last two outings have finished 3-4 and 3-2.

Super Single

      LAY OF THE DAY
      ***************

Lyon play host to Toulouse in France’s Ligue One this afternoon and with no win in five, the home side have to be opposed at odds-on.

Lyon have dropped out of the title race in recent weeks after a dire run of form that has seen them pick up just two points from a possible 15. They are now in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification, although if they win their game in hand they will move ahead of Saint-Etienne into third.

Winning hasn’t been coming easy to Rémi Garde’s men of late though as their last one was back in February and they’ve won just two of their last nine in the league. The Kids come into this clash on the back of three straight defeats, all of which came against teams in the bottom half of the division. Their performances on home soil don’t inspire too much confidence either as they have won just two of seven at Stade de Gerland and they will have to do without the services of Steed Malbranque, Milan Biševac and Dejan Lovren today.

Toulouse have climbed to 11th thanks to a good run of results although that was ended last time out as they lost a seven goal thriller to Nice. Prior to that they were six undefeated and while four of those were draws, that would be more than good enough for us.

TFC have actually won their last two away from Stadium Municipal – at Brest and Ajaccio – and they had avoided defeat in three of their previous four before that, the only blemish being a 2-0 loss at Rennes. Toulouse will also take heart from the fact that they’ve comprehensively beaten Lyon in their last two meetings, both by a 3-0 scoreline.

Lyon are in dreadful form and while Toulouse are having a disappointing campaign, they have largely been avoiding defeat lately. That’s why, with Lyon trading around the 1.94 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.

      Recommended Bet
      Lay Lyon v Toulouse @ 1.94

US MASTERS – 2 BALL TIPS
      *************************

Back Peter Hanson to beat Carl Pettersson @ 1.85

After last year’s third place, Peter Hanson’s Masters campaign has been bitterly disappointing but I can see him battling on for a respectable finish. His consistent record owes much to an ability to keep moving forward when all seems lost, as illustrated last week with a final round 66 in Texas. Today’s opponent Carl Pettersson clearly does not like this place, registering one single round of level par in 12 attempts.

Back John Senden to beat Dustin Johnson @ 2.78

Sunday at a major is always a time of regret for some top stars languishing down the field, reflecting on opportunities lost. So it may be for Dustin Johnson, who had a chance to get to double figures under par on Friday afternoon. The fact he’s fallen away confirms my suspicion that Dustin doesn’t have the skills yet to cope with a drying out Augusta so I can see a further struggle today against an opponent who can always be relied upon to fight hard for every shot.

Back Bo Van Pelt to beat Sergio Garcia @ 2.36

Speaking of stars whose heads can go down, the final day nap must involve taking on Sergio. He hasn’t registered a top-20 at Augusta for nine years, tending to fall away as conditions get harder over the weekend. In stark contrast, two top-20s from three tries is a fine start to BVP’s Masters career, and scores of 70 and 64 in those final rounds is a further tip.

Back Angel Cabrera to beat Brandt Snedeker @ 2.74

The pressure on tonight’s final groups will be immense and, on the basis of past experiences, that makes Cabrera a must-bet as the clear outsider of two. Whereas Angel has won two major titles, Snedeker folded in the final group here five years ago and didn’t cope well in contention at last year’s Open.

Getting today started with Villerreal away to Real Murcia!

Villerreal are flying at the moment, unbeaten in 11 and won there last 2 matches 5-1 & 6-1. A win today moves them into the second automatic promotion place and they are picking up momentum just at the right time ( as Milesey pointed yesterday with Bolton away to Bristol city)

Murcia on the other hand are toiling at the bottom end of the league and have lost 5 of their last 6 and are embroiled in a relegation battle!

    Villerreal win 4/5

    If that’s too short Villarreal – 1 is 2/1

    DENMARK.

I simply cannot accept Randers as being underdogs against Esbjerg in the first game in the Danish Superliga today.

Randers might have lost their last game (0-1 at home to Brondby) and might be a bit on the tired side after a win in the Cup Thursday but they still have my vote today. They’ve beaten Esbjerg twice in the season and have conceded only two goals in the last seven games and are playing better football.

Esbjerg have won four of the last six but all by one nervous goal and what I consider as being the REAL Esbjerg was beaten in their last game 3-1 by Sonderjyske.

    I’m on Randers.

    Esbjerg – Randers (1.00 UK)
Randers +0.25 (half odds if draw)
    Odds: 1,73
Stake: €13.00 (or 2.6% of the fixed €500.00 bankroll for this Danish series)

    Brondby
    Odds: 2,00
    Stake: €12.00 (2.4%)

OB Odense – Aab Aalborg (6.00 UK)
OB Odense +0 (money back if a draw)
    Odds: 1,74
    Stake: €13.00 (2.60%)

I think its pretty reasonable for Esbjerg to be favourites they have won there last 5 homes games and only conceded 1 goal 4 of them were 1-0 and 1 game was 2-1 can see it being a both 2 score today so the 11.5 on offer for Esbjerg to win 2-1 looks not bad.

another game in you homeland I looked it is Brondby I fancy Makienok Christoffersen 2 score anytime at 2.4 he has hit the winner in there last 2 matches 1 away to Randers and the other home to Aarhus would even go as far as him to open the scoring @ 5.5

    Ligue 1 – Aujourd’hui

    Nice – Sochaux H1.82 D3.30 A4.53
    KO: 1pm

    Straight-forward stats for this one.
    Nice – 4th best home side in league of 20 teams: P16 W9 D4 L3 F28 A15
    Sochaux – 16th best away side in league: P15 W3 D4 L8 F11 A25
Nice – currently 6th in league – won away at Sochaux – currently 17th – in November 1-0.
Both sides are in patchy form, but Nice’s last game (against Toulouse away) was significant for their Champions League aspirations. The score was 3-2 to Nice going into the 90th minute when Toulouse grabbed what could have been a crushing equaliser. But two minutes into injury time, Nice hit back with a winner. Doesn’t matter how patchy your form’s been – that must have a fantastic effect on the winning mentality of a side and their collective self-belief.
Meanwhile, Sochaux’s midfield lynchpin Ryad Boudebouz said this week to France Football magazine that he’d like to move on to further his career at a bigger club. Not great for morale when you’re in a relegation battle.
It’s got to be a home win.

    Lyon – Toulouse H1.88 D3.30 A4.27
    KO: 4pm

Lyon aren’t getting a lot of love on the site this weekend, and it’s easy to see why. They’re wobbling badly having lost their last three games, and they haven’t won in six.
No question they’re in a slump – their last win league win was at home on 24th February, just three days after going out of the Europa League to Tottenham. How long ago does that feel? At that stage, they were second. Now they’re fourth and struggling to sustain a meaningful Champions League challenge. However, since that last win, they’ve only played at home twice. One was a draw with Marseille – second best away record in the league (PSG have best away record) and the other was a very poor defeat to Sochaux, who are 17th in league, and boast nothing like Toulouse’s away record. That said, in that game, Lyon had 62% possession, 22 shots and hit the bar as well for good measure.
Away, no question, they’ve been abysmal, drawing one and losing two.
But this game’s at home, and form is temporary, class is permanent. Remi Garde, if he’s to be believed, has got his side up for this like no game they’ve ever played before. And I want to believe him – otherwise I’ve just wasted several hours of my life that I’ll never get back trying to form a view on these games and this league that it seems impossible to make money out of…
But here’s my view – and I don’t lightly go against Milesey or Mr Fixit, or anyone on the site, for that matter, I have complete respect – but it’s just an alternative take. It’s simply a different opinion.
Overall, Lyon are a classy side. Overall, the home stats make that clear.
    Sixth best at home in the league. P15 W9 D3 L3 F28 A14
They’re having a serious blip, but they’ll come good again, otherwise Remi Garde is out of a job and I don’t think I’ll be writing about French football again in a hurry. But it does seem they can’t wait for this game…
Meanwhile, Toulouse are no slouches, but they’re not worldbeaters, either. Away, they’re ninth best in the league.
    Record is P15 W5 D4 L6 F15 A15
Since the start of February home and away in the league, they’ve had 2 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats. Throughout that time, they’ve been a fairly consistent 11th/12th in the league. The wins were against Brest who were 15th and Ajaccio who were 14th. The defeats were to PSG – 1st, Rennes – 5th and Nice – 6th.
    Lyon are fourth.
I think, overall, they’re not in Lyon’s class; equally, they aren’t showing enough form of their own to make me confident of them taking advantage of Lyon’s current slump; and also, as mentioned above, they’ve just bottled it bigtime in their last game…
I mentioned that game above against Nice, and the positive psychological effect on Nice, and here, I think, the opposite may apply. How demoralising to equalise at 3-3 in the 90th minute, only to lose to a 93rd minute winner. Wouldn’t that be hard to shake…? All week, they can’t help wondering: how did we lose that game? Have we got what it takes to win? Or do we need to care now that we’re safe? Where’s that holiday brochure?
    One other stat.
Last time Toulouse beat Lyon away in the league was 1966.
No issue with both teams to score, but if Remi Garde gets half the confidence into his players that he offers in his press conferences, it’s a home win. If he’s lost the fans and the dressing room, they’re a lay, but I don’t see enough in those home performances yet to think that’s the case. Toulose look like ideal opposition for a team needing to halt the slide.

    Lille – Marseille H2.00 D3.24 A3.80
    KO: 8pm

Lille have lost just one of their last nine league games and have won seven of their last eight. Last weekend’s 5-0 hammering of Lorient at the Grand Stade was their best performance of the season so far and their biggest league win in almost two years. They won the French double in 2011.
They’re now fifth and only a point behind Lyon.
Here’s an indicator of how well they’re banging them in. Salomon Kalou has scored six goals in his last six games. Yes. Salomon Kalou.
    Lille – Home 8th best. P15 W8 D4 L3 F25 A12
    Marseille – Away 2nd best. P16 W8 D3 L5 F16 A16
Also relevant – current five match form…
    Lille – 2nd best: W4 D0 L1 F13 A5
    Marseille – 3rd best: W3 D2 L0 F4 A1
While they’ve not conceded a goal in their last four outings, Marseille have scored just six times in nine league matches since the start of February. They‘ve also lost just one of their last eight, and are unbeaten in five, but their win at Nice two weeks ago was their first win in six away league matches in 2013.
To be frank, against a team who’ve stormed bang ino form at just the right time and are popping them in for fun, even a top class defence can’t win matches if nobody’s putting them in at the other end. Even snatching a draw against that kind of firepower seems unlikely.
Here’s a quote from Marseille’s assistant coach, Franck Passi, this week:
“There is no pressure on us. Even if we lose this weekend we will still be two points above Lille.”
If that’s how you’re thinking within the team, ending up only two points ahead is pretty much a done deal. Yes, even if Joey is fit to take part in exactly the kind of game he’s likely to get sent off in.
Zees ees, ow you say, I sink, ome ween.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

The UHT, Nice probably bet of the day in France.

    • The UHT 11 years ago

Mr F – I think so, certainly now that the result’s in! ;-)

I looked at that one first and it looked quite clear-cut. The others are definitely much harder to call, though I do think that Lille are a good shout later on.

I got immersed in the Ligue 1 site – they have an English language site which is pretty good, as it happens – and I think I should probably have left Lyon alone. There’s definitely a lot of uncertainty, Remi Garde is under huge pressure, a few key players are out, and Lyon are way overrated, so, the lay really may be the call.

  29. John 11 years ago

I’m just wondering would it be wise to get on Villareal in the in play markets, they can’t be playing well today

  30. Bingo 11 years ago

Shocking from Villareal. Murcia down to 10 men most of the 2nd half and they still can’t score.

30 Mar Aris FC 0-0 Panthrakikos

07 Apr Asteras Tripolis 0-1 Skoda Xanthi

Tripolis are not in great form think it may be worth a fiver I tend not to go away from home as always a lottery look at that Villarreal result no such thing as easy money.

What is with that Tripolis game in greece?!? Been cracking my head aLl day when ‎i saw danny’s tip. Is the whole tripolis team suspended? Or some players have been paid to fix the game or is it the ref. What is going on ?!!

  41. visualiza 11 years ago

Also thanks to newcastle for spoiling my both sides to score treble and Celtic for my win treble. Scotland is a special case, that’s how morton messed up my treble yesterday. Pfft

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

visualiza, Scotland’s no different than any other league where there are shocks every week. Celtic were playing a cup semi-final where results are never guaranteed while Morton were obviously on their knees after losing to Partick on Wednesday.

  42. Danny 11 years ago

only things I can think of mate

nightmare of a team to find out news for Translating Greek is proving rather difficult not 100% but I think a few of there best players may have swerved the 12 hour round trip and a few fringe players might be starting they also make the mission back too thessalonika on the 18th for a 1st leg bout with the citys big guns in PAOK for a place in the Greek cup final and if Aris dont win they are as goos as down because they wont get anything on the last day away 2 a Xanthi side chasing europa league qualification

Paul well done on the Celtic tips mate. Great winners

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Chris, it’s funny because I also fancied Wanyama and Daly to score but obviously wouldn’t put up four scorer tips. Commons is the man at the moment and Mackay-Steven anytime price was huge with Russell still out.

  48. Knottsy 11 years ago

I took man utd, Athletico, Barca and Real all to score 2+ today. Wait and see Barca or Real beating me!
Done a decent size punt on City. 7/5 too big to ignore. They look good early on – just wish they would get a goal and really take a grip on the game!

Is it best to bet small stake and win less money to make profit.

Or bet bigger stakes to win lots of money?

Betting small means you won’t lose as much money and you can put loads of bets on but slowly make money.

And betting big is a huge risk if it doesn’t pay off and you usually have 1 or 2 bets.

Which do you think is the best way?

  53. Ben 11 years ago

cheers Milesy – any tips for the tromso game, thinking over 1.5

  54. Greg Browning 11 years ago

It all depends Homicide on what you afford to lose!

The best way to win is singles and doubles but you have to stake more on these to make them worthwhile!

Accumulators of 4 teams or more although provide bigger winnings from a smaller stake are extramly difficult to get up!

Bet what you can afford and work our what you wan to win

Some people are happy with a fiver on 5 teams for £100

Others are happy to put £30 on a single at 1/1, while some put bigger stakes on shorter odds!

  55. Danny 11 years ago

Tromso were a team I loved to see at home last season always had them on my coupans there pitch is in some nick and it is a nightmare of a place to for visiting teams its away up in the middle nowhere its closer to Russia than most of the mainland cities in Norway its city centre is inside the artic circle FREEZING BALTIC COLD

    NBA TIPS
    ——–
    Chicago Bulls @ Miami Heat

The Bulls head to Miami for what will undoubtedly be a heated contest. The last time these two met, Chicago ended the Heat’s 27-game winning streak after ruffling a few feathers with their physical game.

LeBron James reacted angrily that night after what he deemed to be ‘non-basketball plays’ from the Bulls defensive unit. However, he won’t be too troubled considering Miami have wrapped up the league’s best record (63-16) and the No.1 seed in the East since.

Coach Erik Spoelstra will be buoyed by the return of Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Friday’s win over the Boston Celtics, and will have the much-heralded ‘Big Three’ back at his disposal after lengthy lay-offs.

The Bulls will likely still be without the injured pair of Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, while Richard Hamilton is suspended. Doubts also remain over Taj Gibson and Luol Deng. In spite of that, they do have a habit of beating their play-off rivals in the East and lead the season series 2-1 over the Heat.

However, considering Miami’s home record (35-4) and the return of their stars who will be eager for revenge, back the Heat to seal a dominant win over a banged-up Bulls team.

Indiana Pacers @ New York Knicks

In the second part of the Sky Sports double bill, the Indiana Pacers visit Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks with the No.2 seed in the East on the line.

A win for the Knicks would seal it, but they trail their rivals 2-1 in the season series. However, they have form on their side having won 14 of their last 15 games.

At the forefront of their run are Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith who have combined to average 57.2 points over the last 15 games. The records continue to tumble for Anthony, who has now scored 30 points or more in his last seven games while Smith comes off the bench to regularly post up big numbers.

Despite both men struggling against the Pacers this season, it is difficult to look past the Knicks considering their current streak. They should seal second place in the East and as a result set up an opening round play-off series with the Boston Celtics.

    Other Games

San Antonio Spurs @ Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers maintained their one-game advantage over the Utah Jazz for the eighth and final play-off spot in the West on Friday, but it came at a huge cost.

Kobe Bryant will miss the conclusion of their chase for play-off basketball, as well as the post season after sustaining a torn Achilles tendon.

Having lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Jazz, the Lakers must finish at least a game better than them, but it doesn’t get much more difficult than taking on the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs have surrendered top spot in the West to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but remain a formidable outfit with Tony Parker and Tim Duncan leading the charge and will be determined to take back the No.1 seed.

Without Bryant and his averages of 27.3 points, 6.0 assists and 5.6 rebounds, more will be needed from Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard. However, having lost both meetings already this season, it may not be enough to get past the Spurs.

River Plate v Arsenal de Sarandí – 00:15

Third against fourth should be a good game at El Monumental where River look back on course after a bit of a wobble in March. Free from continental commitments it should have been easy for Ramón Díaz to play his strongest team every week but a plague of injuries in defence has derailed his plans and now David Trezeguet is out for the rest of the season with a serious injury that needs operating on.

The good news in this medical crisis is that young players like Eder Balanta, the 20 year-old Colombian defender who made his debut in last week’s clásico with Racing, have done well when they’ve stepped in – and there is some experience in the team to guide them.

Arsenal stay under the radar but consistently overachieve, and the creativity and verve of Carlos Carbonero and Martin Rolle should be the envy of most Primera División midfields. It has meant that in fifteen games this season (across all competitions including the Copa Libertadores) Arsenal have only failed to score once, and with River’s defensive personnel issues, we feel as if they’ll do so again.

Given the attacking talents at their own disposal, River should trouble their opponents too and even though Arsenal boast one of the best defenders in the country in Lisandro Lopez there is enough support for both teams to score that we will hop on board at an odds-against price.

  83. Greg Browning 11 years ago

I really do Hope that Hibs do win, least that way i won’t be in rage about a terrible one man qualifying for Europe when effectively they are one of the poorest teams in the league and who have relied on one man all season!

Falkirk were seconds away from Qualifying, no wonder our co-efficient ranking is so terrible!

  84. Craig alves 11 years ago

I’m guessing they’ll be 2 or 3 qualifliers then, can’t believe celtic will have 3 qualifliers next yr too for champs league, at least we’ll be seeded but still dodgy with pre-season and getting teams half way thro their leagues. guido, no chance hibs will win in the final :) if they never had griffiths where would they be?? suprised wolves never re-called him in january and could still live to regret it in league 1 next season

  90. Striker 11 years ago

I’m devastated, had a £20 7 fold on Man Utd, Man City, Ajax, Barcalona -1, Real Madrid-1, Atletico Madrid, PAOK 0.0 AH, then for some madness I added Asteris Tripolis at AH +1.0,+1.5 ( handicap just to be safe), and the tossers couldn’t even keep it within a goal difference of losing. I would’ve got back about £1500 if I’d just left the last one out or if they had just lost by 1 goal, but they got battered. I was hoping real Madrid wouldn’t beat the -1 handicap, to make me feel at least like ‘ah well, you wouldn’t have won out anyway’ but they win 3-0.

  91. the chief 11 years ago
