IT’S been a bad start to the week for Johnb – but we cab forgive him that – but he’s hoping a Cheltenham eye-catcher can change that on Thursday.
Johnb says: Romain De Senam was an unlucky loser at Cheltenham but the race didn’t take too much out of him as he was given a quiet ride.
“Romain De Senam was giving Diego Du Charmil 3lb that day and was beaten a head but that doesn’t tell the full story. He was eased down at the hurdles, more so three out and two out where he lost so much ground.
“Approaching three out he was alongside Voix Du Reve, the Mullins & Walsh horse, but by being eased he was two lengths down after jumping. On the video you can’t see the horse at the second last but he must have been eased again as when he came back into shot turning for home he was about 5 lengths behind Voix Du Reve and a lot further behind the leaders.
“Even at the last hurdle Nick Schofield didn’t ask the horse and it was just a case of letting him pop over. The jockey finally started riding after the last and he flew home to nearly win,
“Another stride and he would have won. The Aintree race is 122 yards further and the slightly worse ground won’t be a problem.”
