THERE was no joy for JohnB’s tips on Thursday with both the nap and NB unable to bag victory.

It was three points lost on the day so the stats for April now read a 0.5 point loss.

Good Friday tip

Lingfield 3.15
Sovereign Debt 11-4 NAP/NB Betfred

Johnb says: “To be honest this horse has taken me a while to look at because I wanted to make sure he was as good a bet as it first looked. My conclusion after watching every previous race over and over again all night is Sovereign Debt is as good as he ever was and he has to be one of my best tips ever.

“On May 18, 2013 Sovereign Debt was second in the Group One Lockinge Stakes at Newbury – second to Farhh beaten four lengths. Yes, that race was nearly two years ago but the horse was off the track between October 2013 and February 2015.

“Soverign Debt was also second to Highland Colori at Doncaster. I have been studying Sovereign Debt’s three races since coming back and he is getting better but that last race at wolverhampton was really impressive and even with horses like Pretend and Tryster running today Sovereign Debt is by far the best bet so he has to be a double stake.”

Although Draw (11) is of slight concern, This holds some creditable Form over todays C+D Reading 6-2123-1 (33.3% Win SR and 83.3% Win-Place SR from those 6 C+D Runs) including 3rd in this Race last April (Three Quarters of Length behind ALBEN STAR) and Listed Class 1 Win in late february (beating GLEN MOSS by Head) lto after 7 month abscence and with Daniel Tudhope mounting both of those Runs having mounted 4 times previous with Form Reading 123-1 returning 50% Win SR and 100% Win-Place SR from those 4 mounts which were notably All over todays C+D and at a nicely priced 8-1, I shall be dabbling a few pennies.

  79. bad jasper 3 years ago

If tryster brings his A game, and doesn’t encounter trouble in running he wins.

  80. bad jasper 3 years ago

if sovereign debt was that good why did Michael bell sell him to A run of the mill trainer like dandy nicholls

  81. Stueyp 3 years ago

I really fancy Sovereign Debt today but there is a big negative for me which is the jockey. This horse will be played late using its excellent turn of foot and for that reason I’d sooner have Mulrennan or Fanning (ridden previously this season) on board as they would be familiar with what is underneath them. Why hasn’t the trainers son been on before for any of his previous 3 runs in the trainers care?? Adrian Nicholls has had one ride all season and it’s 167 days since his last win and he’s only had 5 rides in that time!!!!! I hope I’m wrong but not booking a big name decent jockey may be a big error!!!!!

I know it’s known as the sand donkeys championships today, but are the races just open to nags that have ran on all weather before.

Don’t think many of these will be tearing it up on the turf this year at royal ascot, Goodwood etc.
I suppose it gives the all weather donkeys their deserved day in the sun, as they keep punters busy during days when turf meets are abandoned

Jockey cost that one. Terrible ride.

  120. cobramint 3 years ago

    A Nicholls what a c**t!

  121. Patrick 3 years ago

That jockey should get a slap. I know it didn’t win but that was a great shout from John B as the horse was easily the best in the race only for a terrible, terrible ride :(

  122. frodo 3 years ago

Jockey should be banned for that. Not a professional level rider and has cost people a lot of money

  123. WESLEY WEST 3 years ago

The horse was certainly capable there but I’m really not sure what the jockey was thinking. Pathetic ride. Defiantly a horse to watch though.

  124. Stueyp 3 years ago

My fears were proven!! Lost the good position he got from the start, got shuffled back to near last as following a horse struggling to go pace, went up a blind alley, pulled out done well to get 2nd, would have won easy…….

  125. Aidy 3 years ago

Theres how not to ride an horse he wants shooting for that.

  126. scott 3 years ago

Agree patrick. Great pick from johnb, unfortunately he cant do much about a jockey.

  130. Neil 3 years ago

I was gonna say this was still a great shout from johnb. Bookies have got very lucky there as there’s no way it should have been 3/1.

  131. gjb06 3 years ago

Easily the best horse in the race. Can’t legislate for that bad a ride

  132. double carpet 3 years ago

That was as bad as it gets. Trully shocking stuff. Clearly the best horse in the race. Really drives me nuts when the jockey doesnt give him a chance
    unlucky johnb

  133. Paul 3 years ago

Very poor ride on sovereign debt, cost me dearly. As stated by someone else top jockey was required

  134. johnb 3 years ago

And thats why you need luck because i think every man, woman and child could see Sovereign Debt was by far the best horse in the race but he didnt win

  135. Nick 3 years ago

Jockey shud be shot for that. Disgrace.

  136. Rick astley 3 years ago

Very unlucky JB…certainly best horse in the race..shocking ride from Nicholls having it so far back early on,,only the start of April but think we’ll struggle to see a worse ride on the flat this season.

  137. Stueyp 3 years ago

Ryan Moore would never have got in that trouble, difference between a world class jockey and a ‘trainers son’ who has been riding in Bahrain!!!!!!!! If I was the owner I’d be furious!!!

The more I watch the replay of Soverign debt,s race the more my blood boils.

  145. swany 3 years ago

Thanks for your time and study johnb it was a great selection and outwith your control when jockey gets it wrong.

  146. swany 3 years ago

Thanks for your time and study johnb it was a great selection and outwith your control when jockey gets it wrong.

  147. johnb 3 years ago

The only thing i would say about the jockey is that a stronger jockey like Fallon would have made room to go through that gap
i cant really blame the jockey too much though because he is decent
Sovereign Debt just cost me but thats racing and i only feel bad for everyone else that lost money not myself

  148. Lostboy 3 years ago

I’m not being sarcastic de niro. After watching the race a few times again, it’s hard to see where he could have went on horse. But hey, it’s a sore one.

  178. Hellobad 3 years ago

Unlucky today JohnB – As you said the price for that horse in that race showed great value and the race more than proved that so well worth backing.

Also thankyou for the Tryster & Pretend Double you put out a couple of weeks ago that Coral placed on the wrong race for me. After Trysters performance today it meant that bet paid out anyway so won the double and single from then.

Well done all other winners today!!

  179. Tom 3 years ago

  193. JOHNY BANKER 3 years ago

Hi Johnb very unlucky today Soveriegn Debt was easily the best horse in the race, but that was one of the worst rides I have seen for a long time and I must say well done to Stueyp for his comments regarding his doubts about the Jockey Regards Lads Johny Banker

  204. Duncan Poundcake 3 years ago

    There you go DC

  205. dougiec 3 years ago

Rookie could blame it on any number of things but have my suspicion that the horse just didn’t understand the Scottish starters accent, and forgot he was supposed to be a front runner.Throwing something at all Welds rides and was going to put up Apache but leaving it alone with the draw? Missing Dundalk already.

  206. double carpet 3 years ago

Right now just btts left in derby game and thats the easter eggs paid for

  207. dougiec 3 years ago

Thrown them all together Rookie/double carpet with Defining Year, not a bet but I usually do but £1 L15 and £5 92/1 Acca

Cork 3.55 cash or casualty 14/1

Looks very well hcapped off 58. Has won off 85 ok it was 2 years ago but he was also 3rd off 77 in heavy going. The thing about it though is both those runs were around this time of year so could come in to his own at this time of year and 58 seems very low. I shall be having an ew punt on him.

  227. Duncan Poundcake 3 years ago
