IT'S been a few fairly quiet nights with just Champions League and Europa League matches so it will be good to look at a bigger card tonight.

Three of the four teams I expected to qualify for the EL semi-finals made it through although Ajax and Man United did it the hard way by winning after extra time.

My only bet was a double on Besiktas not to lose and Celta Vigo draw no bet and that paid out at 1-2 with the second part void.

Tonight Brighton aim to clinch the Championship with a win a Norwich and should do so in a match that promises plenty of goals.

Sevilla will be popular against Tony Adams's Granada in La Liga and in Germany Cologne v Hoffenheim should also give us goals.

Greg's likely to put up Ligue 2 tips and already Nimes have been mentioned at Reims and Sean Ireland has suggested Cork -1 at St Pat's in the League of Ireland as a Super Single.

I'm focusing on Saturday's columns for the Daily Record but have picked out a couple of bets for tonight and will add reasoning later if I get time.

Posted this one up earlier in the week…some things are worth waiting for and always good when they’re home and hosed by half-time!

DEPORTES VALDIVIA VS. LA SERENA (23.30 KO):

Whilst it’s not one to go mad on, both teams seem to have enough scoring potential and the last time these two met back in October ended with Serena running out 3-2 winners.

Serena’s games have been more scant of late but their most recent game saw 3 goals and prior to the last 6, they were involved in some big scorelines.

Valdivia may sit 5 places beneath them but recent form paints a better picture especially on home soil; they have scored 1-2-3-2 team goals in their last 4 and I can’t help thinking we might see a few goals from both teams.

    Two selections to consider:

    OVER 2.5 MGS…4/5
    ??

    ***WON***

    BTTS 1ST HALF…16/5
    ?

    ***WON***

Sean Ireland what about adding Dundalk with your 2 shouts for a treble at 2.21/1?

    • sean ireland 7 years ago

@recoba Only off putting thing for me with Dundalk is their price @ 1/4 plus the fact that mid week Dundalk needed pens to get past UCD from a division below in a cup game. Price is too poor for me to back a side a shadow of the team they were last season but id still expect them to gain the victory. Good Luck.

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

How many players have Dundalk lost from last season? As you say a shadow of last season’s all conquerors.

    • sean ireland 7 years ago

They have lost 8 players in 2017 Mr F and only replaced 2 with loan signings,Daryl Horgan and Andrew Boyle who both went to preston are big losses.

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

Cheers, that explains a lot. I did see Cork tipped on the anteposts so that was a good shout.

    • recoba 7 years ago

Aye the price is poor and I thought they would have lost a lot players after the season they had. Ill leave them out just in case. Cheers Sean Ireland. Good luck

Surely Cork 4/5 o1.5tgs is a shout too Sean?

    • sean ireland 7 years ago

I agree andy they should cover over 1.5 tgs that’s why I suggested the handicap single but i just took the win as part of my double bet. Cork are head and shoulders above any other Irish team at the moment and haven’t let me down yet but all good things come to an end sometime just hope it isn’t this week ;)

    MEDELLÍN VS. MELGAR (01.00 KO):

Colombia versus Peru here in the Copa Libertadores and all the money is going on the home favourites.

I completely understand that but Medellin have always been fairly open at the back in games I’ve seen and have kept a clean sheet in only 6 of their most recent games.

Peruvian football – although not comparable to Colombian national standards, has improved on the domestic front massively in recent years and write off Melgar’s ability to make an impact at your peril – they have scored in 90% of their last 10 games and will carry an attacking threat.

    Two selections to consider:

Morning gents. Poor month to say the least for me. Winners been few and far between, but so have the bets. Keep trotting on though as the NBA will be over soon, so full focus will be here for a few months.

    One for tonight.

    Brighton To Score
    Heerenveen Over 1.5 Team Goals

    EVS @ Coral – 3 points

Brighton bidding for the title with Norwich having nothing to play for. Norwich haven’t kept many clean sheets at home this season so I expect the probable champions to do so.

Heerenveen have been in poor form of late but three of their last four losses were away from home. They’ve still managed to score in nine of their last ten, and 2+ in three of their last four at home. Willem have a few key players missing and have a bad history on this ground. Expect both to score but the home side have some decent options in attack, particularly the Iranian forward Reza Ghoochannejhad who has three goals in his last four games and is available at EVS to net.

    • jim burnside 7 years ago

After studying these 2 Jordan btts in both games looks a great bet at 7/4 hereenveen game the last 7 times these 2 have played it’s been btts.
Brighton game has goals written all over it.

  25. leroy 7 years ago

It was a no bet day for me yesterday after a disappointing trip into the Americas late Wednesday night. Back on the saddle this evening for a bigger card, but I’ve found myself mostly drawn to the Irish league. I’m encouraged to see that my picks don’t look too dissimilar to Sean Ireland’s!
    .
First up are a Bray Wanderers side who have started the season in really good nick. Their defeat of Dundalk last time out in the league was particularly impressive, scoring their their 18th, 19th and 20th goals in 9 league games. 7 of those have seen Bray score 2 or more goals when winning or in defeat. In midweek, they visited St Patrick’s in the cup and made 6 changes to the side that faced Dundalk. Bray Manager Harry Kenny said that he was ‘pleased with the lads that came in considering they hadn’t play very much recently’, which may go some way to explaining why they drew a blank in a game that eventually went to penalties.

As for the other three occasions they failed to score twice this season? They all occurred under somewhat mitigating circumstances. They made similar changes when only beating Drogheda 1-0 in an earlier round of the cup. They lost 1-0 at home to a Limerick side who have conceded just 1 in 3 away league games and only 7 in 8 league games in total. Lastly, their 1-0 win against Galway saw Bray reduced to 10-men after an hour. The price about them to score today, and to score two, is simply too good a value on recent form. Shamrock have contested some high scoring games and have seen both sides scoring in all four of their away games. 3 of those saw them conceding two goals and they have just the one league clean sheet thus far.

Finding something to double up with Bray scoring has been tough but I’m willing to take Cork to continue their fantastic start to the season. I’m not a big fan of the WDW market but St Pats have been the epitome of inconsistency so far this season and are still without striker Christy Fagan through injury.

    Bray To Score
    Cork City (Win)

    Double @ 11/10 (Various)
    _______________________________

More than willing to take a gamble on this big price considering the write-up.

    Bray O1.5 Team Goals @ 8/5 (Betfair)

    Den Bosch v Sittard

    NORWICH VS. BRIGHTON:

No time to write up but think we’ll see a few goals this evening with both sides featuring.

Norwich have little to play for but a bit of pride at the end of a disapointing campaign and the Canaries have a goal in them as do Brighton!

Been a quiet week but Friday is here again so will be off to France Ligue 2

Last week it was a goals bonanza in France with all 8 matches seeing over 1.5 goals! Been following this league for 4 or 5 years now and the business end of the season always produces goals

Have picked out three where we should see goals

I had a few hours to spare, so here are some up to date stats for the Dutch Eerste Division, for the few of us who look forward to these games when they come around.
With such a high rate of scoring going on, it’s hard to keep tabs on who is the worst of a bad lot most weeks, so I’ve put together some up to date stats for tonight’s fixtures, which kick off at 7pm.

    ACHILLES 29 V FC DORDRECHT

Achilles have the worst HOME record in the league, having played 17 W2 D3 L 12, with a record of F20 A42
They’ve conceded at least ONE goal in their last 11 HOME games, 31 in total during that time.

Dordrecht haven’t won any of their last 13 AWAY matches, and conceded at least ONE goal in their last 14 AWAY games, only scoring 7 themselves during that time.

Dordrecht DC @8/11 or BTTS @8/15 would probably be the call…

    AJAX RESERVES V HELMOND SPORT

Ajax have scored in their last 15 games, and are unbeaten in their last 10 HOME games, winning 7 and drawing 3. Goals F21 A9 during those 10 games.

Helmond have lost their last 6 AWAY games, conceding 23 and only hitting 3.

Not really any value in this game, with Ajax @1/4, O1.5 TGs being the same, and the only decent value being Ajax O2.5 TGs @8/11. Ajax haven’t scored over 1.5 in their previous 5 home matches though.

ALMERE CITY FC V DE GRAAFSCHAP

Almere have scored at least ONE goal in their last 9 games, and won their last 3 at HOME, with 3-0, 2-0 and 2-1 victories.

De Graafschap have scored at least ONE goal in their last 10 games, but have lost 7 drawn 1 and won just 2 of those 10 games.

Surprised that the home side are the underdogs @9/5. Almere and O3.5 MGs looks tasty @5/1 though. Over 2.5 MGs and BTTS looks OK @8/13

    CAMBUUR v RKC

Cambuur have won their last 4 games, and are unbeaten in 6, scoring 18 and only conceding 4 during their unbeaten run.

RKC have won 3 of their last 8 games on the road, but haven’t won any of their last 5 games home or away, although they have only failed to score ONCE in their last 13 games, whilst only managing to keep ONE clean sheet in their last 15 games.

Over 2.5 MGs and BTTS @Evens looks the bet here.

FC DEN BOSCH V FORTUNA SITTARD

Den Bosch have conceded at least ONE goal in their last 7 HOME games, and have only won 2 of their last 11 matches. Their HOME record since the beginning of the year is: W2 D3 L3

Fortuna have scored at least ONE goal in their last 6 away games, but only won ONE of those games, while drawing 3 and losing 2. Scoring 9 and conceding 13.

Best bet is probably BTTS @8/15

    FC EINDHOVEN V VVV

Eindhoven have only failed to score at least ONE goal in their last 12 HOME games, and have conceded at least ONE goal in their last 9 games. In those 12 games they have W10 and L2 scoring 33 and conceding 18.

VVV are top of the league when it comes to road trips, with a record of W11 D2 L4 F29 A14.
Their away record since the start of the year reads P8 W5 D1 L2 F13 A8.

A tighter game to call. Eindhoven DC @Evens could be worth a shout, or O3.5 MGs @6/5

    FC EMMEN V NAC

Emmen have scored at least ONE goal in their last 7 HOME games, and kept clean sheets in the last 3 at home. They’ve won 5 of those last 7 home games, including the last 3.

NAC have scored 8 goals in their last 4 AWAY matches, including a 4-0 trouncing of top of the league VVV.

Another tricky one to call, so either O2.5 MGs @8/11 or O3.5 @7/4

    FC OSS V FC VOLENDAM

Oss have conceded at least once in 88% of their HOME games, but have scored 8 goals in their last 3 HOME games, including a 2-0 victory last time out against PSV.

Volendam’s last 6 AWAY games have been evenly balanced, with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats, scoring 11 and conceding 11. They either blow hot or cold.

As usual with Oss, the only way to go is hope that it’s a high scoring game. O3.5 MGs @11/10

    MAASTRICHT V PSV RESERVES

Maastricht are unbeaten in last their last 11 HOME games, winning 5 of those. In that time they have scored 19 and conceded 8.

PSV have lost 5 of their last 11 games on the road, suffering a 2-0 defeat last time out to FC Oss. The other 6 away games were 3 draws and 3 wins, scoring 12 and conceding 10 over that period.

    Choice of O2.5 MGs @8/11 or O3.5 MGs @7/4

    TELSTAR V FC UTRECHT RESERVES

Telstar have scored at least ONCE in their last 6 HOME games, 10 in total, but have only won 2 of their 8 home games since the start of the year.

Utrecht have conceded at least ONE goal in all their 17 AWAY games this season, and have the WORST AWAY record of W1 D3 L13. They’ve conceded 42 and scored 16 o n their travels.

You could take Telstar @13/10 or hope for O2.5 MGs @4/5

If anyone fancies a tenfold of O1.5 MGs, which has been just one goal short a few times recently, it pays just under 5/1.

Hope this helps anyone who is interested. I’m awfy superstitious about telling people my bets, hence the options…
