Apr 15: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

MRF_RacingTips_Racebets

IT was a good day for Johnb on Thursday as he landed a 6.3pt profit.

There was a 10p rule 4 on Magical Memory who ended up being a double-stake tip after the joint NAP/NB was a non-runner so the double went on as a single. April is now a 3.8pt loss.

Derby trial at Newbury 4-35 attracts a whopping 3 runners.
Race pace will be muddling and not truly run and will be utterly pointless as a trial.

    From yesterdays thread

    NAP – 4:50 Bath – Blue Top – 14/1 Ladbrokes or Hills

    NB – 6:20 Bath – Marsh Hawk – 9/1 Skybet, Hills, Boyle

    GL all

Tomorrow at dundalk, there are roughly 20 horses between 28 and 100/1. A half point each way on all of these horses is 20 points. One 28/1 winner returns approx 17.5 points. A 66/1 to place returns approx 8 points, the point: by evenly staking the long shots in all 8 races (discard no hopers to reduce your outlay at your leisure), you can risk little for a lot. For example a 33/1 to win and place over eight races returns approx 25 points and instant profit (working at 1/4 odds)

    Any thoughts?

Word to mother, roughly did the same with the National. Always wondered what would happen if I bet on every horse so with BET 365 offer of half your stake back and the first 5 home did 50p e/w on all of them and ended up about £40 in profit. Only did it coz figured you always get some big priced horses in the first five.

This system I think could be amazing. It needs tweaking though, for example: instead of betting on horses between 20/1 and 100/1, bet on those between 8/1 and 33/1, and perhaps only bet straight on those below 10s. I feel there is scope for tweaking to making this worthwhile.

I just ran the numbers for cheltenham, ripon and new market yesterday, using horses at 20s or more.

New Market: 11.5pts staked, 32.75 rtnd
Ripon: 20pts 10 returned, however two races accounted for 6/20 pf the long shots, and ideally tou wouldnt be backing all six.
At cheltenham, we staked 31 and returned only 4. However 16/31 horses came from two races alone.

You could.also avoid races where there are more likely.winners and seek out races which suit the system.

I think this has legs to it, regarding the scratch card comment, i think with tweaks.and.alternate ideas I just discussed, this holds a lot.more value, and besides if we monitored all tipsters w/l then it moght be plausible.to argue that scratch cards are just as profitable than any tipster here.

          word2mother 8 months ago

Not entirely sure what pitch and toss is but id rather bet on the virtuals than scratchies. Ill tweak the idea and trial it and post results, time will tell.

Anyone got any ideas why the NAP/NB Star Jeanie’s odds are climbing so highly. Every time I look they’ve gone even higher. Not complaining as it will only increase the winnings if it comes in. Just wondering why it’s going up so much aha

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 8 months ago

Just a case of other horses seeing more money and punters not taking more into account than just form,
If the race is dissected more then the majority of horses in the race that are seeing money can be discounted, this doesn’t mean they can’t win it just means their chances are less likely.
Some horses in the race have been reevaluated and will come down in the handicap.
The most significant one is Ower Fly who is running with 8lb more than he should be carrying,
My tip Star Jeanie has a far bigger scope for improvement,
In my opinion her two runs have underrated her in a big way, she is by far the best horse looking to the future and I think she will be a 100 rated horse this season, I judge this on her breeding which is excellent, the standard of races she has contested which I feel are stronger than the handicapper thinks, her temperament during races where she seems to settle well, she has a high cruising speed with a kick.
The truth is any horse could win this if Star Jeanie isn’t ready first time out but if she is ready then it could be a wide margin win for a sprint

John, how do rate the flat jockeys of today?? As things stand Lu Lu and Sean Levey are the only reliable jockeys. Compare this to 10 or 15 years ago John. Where the jockeys back then better judges of a race?

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 8 months ago

not too bad, Lester Piggott was the best ever and I rate Graham Gibbons that highly,
Past Jockeys that I rated highly were Steve Cauthen, Walter Swinburne, John Reid, Mike Kinane, Willie Carson.
Just now we have Graham Gibbons, Frankie Dettori, Ted Durcan, Paul Hanagan, as top class,
Younger jockeys coming through there is Tom Marquand, Lulu Stanford and a jockey not many people will know Jordan Vaughan who broke his leg last year just below the knee which was a lengthy absence, it was good to see him get a win on Wednesday,

Overall though the standard of jockey now is better, the training for younger jockeys is top class and they are fitter.
It’s the same as any sport though, you get a few at the very top who are world class then you get the others

Hanagan is top drawer,George Duffield never got the credit he deserved ,Chris Hayes is also underrated. But Piggott,McCoy and Ryan Moore for being driven and single bloody mindedness ..

  26. Profile photo of the notorious
    the notorious 8 months ago

John, Pat Eddery was the only jockey to come close to Piggot in my opinion. Im not sure who rode the most winners but Im fairly sure Piggott rode more G1 winners the Eddery. Its just a pity that Eddery lost his battle with the booze.

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 8 months ago

Pat Eddery rode 4632 winners & 14 British Classic winners,

Lester Piggott rode 4493 winners & 30 British Classic winners
He rode his first winner when aged just 12 & rode in his first Derby aged 16, he also rode till he was nearly 60

Sir Gordon Richards rode 4870 winners & 14 British Classic winners

    1545 Ayr Orbasa 11/2
Tough looking field, running a stone less than lto, finished 8 behind ballybolley recently and has had 3 races this year, imavine ‘full shift’ is the danger.

    1700 Fontwell WithyMills 5/2
Beaten fto this year by joint fave in this race, carrying a lot mpre weight, today the tables are turned and he should be sharper than lto.

Only a quick scan of these two races using a few variables that I will need to add to, not tips just my picks, hopefully have a proper scan of southwell later.

Was it worth risking 3pt on a horse that might, or might not be ready after a long break? I know it’s easy to say it after the race, but If I remember well, last year JohnB did not have much luck with those that were running after a long break.

Anyone who witnessed Kieron Fallons winner in Dundalk tonight will not see a better a ride this year.
He came from another parish to win on the line.
Its not hard to see why Michael O Callaghan snapped Fallon up at the ripe ol age of 51.
