Racing tips: Flann & Bonttay are worth doubling up for a bet on Wednesday

I won't speak too much about yesterday's selection which saw the horse unseat Brian Hughes.

I had a little rank in the comments about the jockey yesterday and how overrated he is. It might've been a little bit of anger due to what happened, but I stand by what I said and I will try my best to avoid his rides from now on, and I'm sick and tired of the way he rides. Personally, I don't think he's that great and he gets away with murder by riding the best horses in the North for some of the better trainers.

Elvis hit the nail on the head, how many races does the horse win the race and pull him out of the s***? a fair amount I'd say, I rarely look at one of his wins and think “that was a world-class ride”. If it wasn't for the ridiculous amount of odds-on shots he rides in rubbish race for Donald McCain, his record wouldn't be anywhere near as good as it looks.

Double: Flann & Bonttay 2/1 

I'm sure many of you will know I'm not a fan of betting in multiples, but on a day like this where I don't fancy much other than a couple of odds-on shots, I will chuck them into a double and have a play. Fingers crossed they both do the business.

Leicester 2:00

I tipped FLANN up when he ran last time out but was brought down. I was a big believer in him that day so it was a great shame to see him fall. I still believe he is running off a decent handicap mark of 102 still, especially with Liam Harrison doing the steering and taking off a further 3lbs.

He will have to carry a decent chunk of weight, but this is something which he has done before, so it's not a shock to him and I believe he is more than capable of doing it again in a race of this nature, which doesn't look particularly great.

This is a track he's previously won at before, when staying on well up the long straight they have at Leicester. The added two furlongs he faces today don't concern me and the ground shouldn't be a problem for him considering he's previously won on soft ground in a bumper back in 2020.

Exeter 2:10

This race doesn't look great, it appears that we have a lot of deadwood in this race, especially horses who will be wanting to get into handicaps as soon as possible.

For me, it would be a total disaster for connections if BONTTAY wasn't up to winning at this level against this calibre of horse. She was a tremendous bumper horse, who clearly had setbacks as it took a while for her to come back to racing but even then she returned in a Class 1 bumper race and finished second after a decent layoff, which goes to show the level of ability she has.

I'm sure connections were disappointed that she didn't win last time out on her hurdles debut, getting beat at odds-on but she will have learnt plenty for that run and better will be expected today. Her jumping was a little novicey and she was quite keen. But, Fergal has allowed her to get some time in between her last run to now and that would've worked wonders, to get that jumping technique spot on and get her fitness to 100%.
