Out of the two selections from Tuesday I was expecting Getting Closer to win more than Legendary Rhythm, but it was the latter who delivered the goods, tipped at 5/1, and won at 11/8 with a 15p rule 4.
For a horse who was yet to win over fences, he jumped great, got the lead which I thought was possible and he settled better than he had done previously.
Musselburgh 2:50 – Storm Tiger 11/10 (1pt)
Racing is fairly dreadful today, and only a couple stood out to me as bets on the day with the first being STORM TIGER.
I thought he made a nice chase debut at Catterick last time out. He was held up from off the pace, which seems like a tactic they like to use on him, and made some very good ground late in the race to finish second. In a race like this around a track like Musselburgh, I'm hoping they don't do the same today, as it can be difficult to make ground from the back at this track, with it suiting the horses positioned prominently, but I imagine they will have him closer.
This is a pretty shocking race, with Quiet Flow being the main danger. That horse is still a maiden over fences from seven tries, so is vulnerable to an improver like Storm Tiger. I think the form of Storm Tiger's race behind Ardera Cross rates the best in this race. That horse has gone on and won since, and won in good style.
Storm Tiger's odds aren't amazing, but this race isn't amazing, so I understand why he is just above EVS.
Musselburgh 4:25 – Concetto 13/8 (1pt)
I tipped CONCETTO on chase debut a few weeks ago when he won at Huntingdon. He didn't put a foot wrong that day, led from start to finish, and put in a polished round of jumping from a novice who was making his first start over fences.
I think he idled a bit close to home, so the closer who did finish second was probably a bit flattered. He has gone up 7lbs for that run, which shouldn't be enough to halt further progress, and they've decided to put him up to 3m, which should be fine considering he was placed over PTPs when running in Ireland. Musselburgh isn't a stamina-testing track, so he should be fine and if they go from the front again, he could be very tough to pass, even off a heavy weight of 12st 2lbs.
