THIS thread is for football chat – not tips – so if you want to see punters' best teams of all time this is the place.

We can't bet on it but I'm sure it will be a popular debate once cooldude reposts his line-up and of course raaljaca has already stated his preference.

You can talk about anything football-related here that is not a tip – so please use it. Keep it clean and don't be bigoted or racist.

  2. Gaz H 9 years ago

Cooldude-are u seriously saying Pogba is 1 of the all time greatest centre midfielders and Robben is better than Ronaldo,Zidane or Figo?

  3. Stuart 9 years ago

My main challenge would be Robben on the right he goes missing in games, put beckham there for guaranteed quality at set pieces and crosses. Plus pogba over keane or viera?

Jamos8, wonder what game that team played in? One question – why has no one picked Hamilton’s Darian MacKinnon? He’d be second name on my team.

Gaz h, Im not here to stir aggro. Its all about opinions and of course I would have Figo or Zidane in there but there’s not enough room. As for Ronaldo well Im not fan as he’s to worried about his image generally his body and hair.

  8. cooldude 9 years ago

Danny, I dont think we will ever see a player of the class of Cafu ever again. He would cover every blade of grass for the entire 90 minutes. He literally never tired and played the role of RM and RB because he was so fit.
But the scariest thing of all was that he could still do it in his final years and there was little or no decline. A true great

Cooldude -who said out about Aggro? I’m merely stating that Paul Pogba wouldn’t even get in an all time greatest France 11 never mind world 11. And if Ronaldo shaved all his hair off and put a couple of Stone on he’d still be better than Robben.

Here’s an update, as it’s a new thread. Some people including myself, like the Conference leagues for goals, but so far these games are off this Saturday.

    Dartf’d v Woking
    A’shot v Dover
    Eastleigh v Wrexham
    G’head v Welling
    Worcester v AFC Flyde
    Staines v H Hempstead

a few games in the Highland League are casualties too(another league where I’ve noticed they’re not shy of finding the net, unfortunately it’s not easy to find these games on coupons – perhaps McBookie?)

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

stagger, McBookie do Highland and Lowland League online and Ladbrokes have a shop coupon with both of those leagues and junior top-flight games.

    • stagger 9 years ago

Thanks, MrF, but please tell me, is the Ladbrokes shop coupon exclusive to Scotland? It’s prob a silly question but I’d like to know for sure, as I’ve never seen High/Low land games on their shop coupons. (I am in London) Thanks.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

stagger, if you’ve not seen it then it probably is – called Totally Scotland and comes out on a Friday. If you have a helpful member of staff they should take your bet and check prices for you.

Mr f here’s an interesting article.
    https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/pitchside-europe/martin-odegaard–%C2%A380-000-per-week-for-a-16-year-old-is-ludicrous-152002814.html

Personally I think it is too much for a 16 year old. Its possible he will get it in his head that he is set up for life and therefore we may never see 100% from him again.
Whats your opinion Mr f, too much too young???

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

cooldude, Odegaard is well know to Scots and Celtic fans in particular so the story’s been followed closely and the Record reported his signing in today’s paper. It was Ronny Deila who gave him his debut as a 15-year-old at Stromsgodset and Odegaard credits the Celtic manager with much of his progress. Deila hoped to bring him to Glasgow but obviously that wasn’t going to happen when all of Europe’s top clubs are chasing you. Seems to be the real deal though and it’s up to Real to nurture him and bring him on – the way Sporting Lisbon seem to be doing with Ryan Gauld.

Why do alot of British people not mention maradonna in their all time greatest teams? He was one of the best players to ever walk the earth. Seen him play in Dublin once, he really was something else. Ok he cheated against England in 86 but why doesn’t he get the respect in the UK? Just curious

  27. Baldy45 9 years ago

Small rant here, sorry can’t help myself. It pains me to see people now referring to Ronaldo as Ronaldo (Brazil). Until recently Cristiano Ronaldo was always referred to as “Portuguese Ronaldo” to avoid confusion with THE Ronaldo. I don’t care how many Balon d’Ors Crissy wins, he will always be second to the great Ronaldo. Rant over.

  28. jayp 9 years ago

@stuart.. Yeah he cheated but so did Thierry Henry against ireland, so did Zinedine Zidane against italy, and these are regarded as great players. It’s not a Popularity contest, and it should’nt be. Just going on football abilty Diego Maradona was the best ive ever seen, messi second, and Johan Cryuff third.

  29. recoba1980 9 years ago

Baldy45 Ronaldo was a bit special but even though he still had a stunning career and is one of the best I’ve seen we will never know just what he could have been without the knee injuries. From 19-25 he was unbelievable, burst of pace was probably best I’ve ever seen!

For the first time ever all the teams in the Barclays premier league are in the top 40 richest clubs in the world! This is due to the money on offer from tv! The same article mentioned that Cardiff City who were relegated received more money than the champions,Man City due to tv and a payment for getting relegated!!! This also means that the likes of Burnley have more spending clout than Celtic! Dearie me

Hibernian FC – Statement by David Low
      Posted on January 22, 2015
Since Hibernian FC (“Hibernian” or “the club”) published its report and accounts for the year to 31 July 2014 and announced its intention to issue new shares I have been approached by a large number of shareholders and supporters and asked to increase the offer my group made last year and to offer to buy all of the new shares Hibernian is proposing to issue.

I have considered the financial statements to 31 July 2014 and reviewed the Information Memorandum provided by the Board and my valuation of the club’s shares has not changed.

It remains my view that Hibernian’s assets remain overvalued at pre-recession and banking crisis levels. The bank debt has now been replaced by a new large debt to the controlling shareholder and these facts together with the poor financial performance of the business over many years mean Hibernian’s shares continue to have a negligible economic value. Consequently, my group will not be making a new offer, subscribing for new shares or making a donation.

If the controlling shareholder wishes to value its investment at £7.5m that is its prerogative and its decision has to be both respected and accepted as does my own valuation.

However, what is less acceptable is the Board’s deliberate decision to avoid providing thousands of existing and prospective shareholders and donors with any up to date financial information to help them make their own decision on the merits of an investment or a donation. It is not unreasonable to want to know what you are being asked to invest in or donate to. It is still not too late for the Board to provide that information as the share offer will remain open until 31 August 2015 (or such other date as the Board may decide).

The Board really should address the following issues:-

1.No financial information has been provided in respect of current trading. This is particularly relevant given the published accounts relate to when the club was in the Premier League. Given the club has subsequently been relegated the Board should immediately release a current trading update and publish six month figures to 31 January 2015 as soon as is practical. There are thousands of existing and prospective shareholders and donors who would like to know how the club’s doing.

2.The published accounts to 31 July 2014 casually announced the outsourcing of the club’s retail operation. Why was the business outsourced, who was it outsourced to and on what terms was it outsourced? There are thousands of existing and prospective shareholders and donors who would like to know.

      3. The published accounts provide detailed information on the club’s loan arrangements with its bank. No information was been provided in respect of the new loan arrangements with the new lender. Who, exactly, is the loan is with, what are the loan terms and who now has security over the club’s assets. There are thousands of existing and prospective shareholders and donors who would like to know.

4.The club’s existing Articles of Association enable the Board to restrict and control who owns shares in the future. It is not unusual for shareholders’ personal circumstances to change thereby necessitating a sale of shares. There are thousands of existing and prospective shareholders and donors who would like to know why the Board has not referred to or addressed this matter.

It would be both constructive and helpful to all if these matters were addressed posthaste.

In my opinion, the most likely outcome of the share issue is that supporters will end up with a minority shareholding in the club. My group’s offer involved donating 25% of the issued shares to a supporters’ charitable body and I invite the controlling shareholder to now consider doing the same.

For the avoidance of doubt, these are my personal views and any supporter considering investing in Hibernian shares should seek the advice of a financial advisor authorised by the FCA.

    Hello chaps
I vaguley recall around 20 odd years ago that someone got into a fair bit of trouble (possibly jailed).
For altering an old style football coupon,
Basically after placing a small bet he waited until the games were finished then added 1 2 X on the paper copy you received.
Then tried to claim his winnings, If my memory serves me correctly his winnings would of been multi millions of pounds.
    Does anyone else remember this

    • raaljaca 9 years ago

      Eddie what about this bet;

The Lucky 15 bet involved 15, 20p bets on four correct score predictions: four singles, six doubles, four trebles and an accumulator.
      They were Brentford 2 Chelsea 2 at 18/1 , Leeds 3 Tottenham 1 (25/1), Oldham 3 Liverpool 2 (80/1), and St Mirren 3 Celtic 2 (50/1).

From January 2013, the guy got 3 from 4 and the Leeds game finished 2-1 but Leeds scored a 3rd right at the end but the referee, Kevin Friend, blew for full time just before the ball went in. The guy won 17k but had the ref blown a second later and Leeds finished 3-1 his winnings were 500k

Clubs are used to the odd duff signing. But Cambridge United’s acquisition of a scoreboard from Rangers in the mid-90s was up there among the duffest.
It replaced a much-loved clock in the corner between the Habbin Stand and Newmarket Road End, and worked for less than two seasons.
It is still there, gathering rust, hidden behind an advertisement hoarding.
“It just suddenly appeared,” said Dave Matthew-Jones, chair of the supporters’ group Cambridge Fans United. “It didn’t work very long.”
Taylor’s memory of the scoreboard is more succinct: “Pretty much like Rangers at the moment, it doesn’t work.”
