Golf: Ace’s Ryder Cup Day 3 Tips

EUROPE are up against it going into the final day of the Ryder Cup after a poor afternoon session on Saturday.

A 3-1 defeat means the USA lead 9.5-6.5 going into the 12 singles matches and that’s a big lead. It’s reflected in the prices with USA 1-5 with most firms and Europe 13-2 at betfair. The draw pays 12-1 at betfair.

Darren Clarke knows he has to put points on the board early and all his big guns go out first – starting with the one everyone wanted to see as Rory McIlroy takes on Patrick Reed.

Europe’s No.1 is 4-5 favourite with William Hill but Reed lives for the Ryder Cup and this one is tough to call. With Reed big at 2-1 I’d take him if forced to choose.

Not surprisingly Martin Kaymer is out in 11th slot, as he was four years ago when holing the putt that would retain the Ryder Cup for Europe. He’s had a poor couple of days and will need to raise his game to have a chance against Matt Kuchar.
Europe’s youngest rookie Matt Fitzpatrick is in the anchor role and faces a test of nerve against the experienced Zach Johnson. The match could be over by then but if it’s not I’m sure Johnson will finish the job.
My best bets for the singles are Thomas Pieters to beat JB Holmes and Brooks Koepka to see off Danny Willett. I also like Justin Rose against Rickie Fowler.
