IT'S back to normal after two rounds of European qualifiers and I for one am looking forward to some league action.
Results can be inconsistent though, especially for the bigger teams, with many internationalists having played 180 minutes and travelled thousands of miles.
Some will be leg weary and others will be injured so team news will be vital.
I've put together a Super Single shortlist from my first look at the coupon without yet checking team news. These picks are based mainly on form and all priced close to or above evens.
As usual give me your thoughts – positive or negative on these sides.
Super Single shortlist
Chelsea v Aston Villa both to score
EVERTON v Man Utd
SPURS v Liverpool
BIRMINGHAM v Qpr
MK Dons v BLACKBURN
Port Vale v PETERBOROUGH
WALSALL v Chesterfield
WIGAN v Colchester
PLYMOUTH v Accrington
ST JOHNSTONE v Partick Th
Walsall top are evens against bottom half chesterfield! Got to be a super single there as Walsall are just getting back in to form. Not as if they won their last 6 and are due a loss ;)
Mr Fixit….what do you make of Brighton and Ajax to win? Looks like a delicious double!
marcopolo, Brighton will probably be on my aways but haven’t looked at the European games yet.
Strongly fancy Everton (12/5) against an increasingly turgid man united. To give protection I’ll be going Everton DC (4/6). Everton in good form and Solid at home.
Everton,Spurs and Saints good looking bets.Rangerrs-2.-3 AH.
Peterborough has been on form lately so am backing up Peterborough and over 2.5
Hmm don’t fancy any of the first three Mr F
I too also fancy Everton who consistently do very well at home to the bigger sides of the league. Throw into the mix the Dutch element of the Utd squad and you’ll have a few players there low on confidence as the Dutch crashed out of the Euro’s.
Another team I’ll be having a small dabble on is Sunderland. Whilst Sunderland have been nothing short of shambolic they do boast a new managerial appointment. In Sam Allardyce they have one of the best organisers and motivators in the League and a trip to West Brom won’t be that daunting for Sunderland as long as they can frustrate the home side for the first 30mins.
A price of 11/13 on the double chance, 2/1 on the draw no bet and a huge 3/1 for the away win.
It is the kind of game West Brom have slipped up on in the past. The home fans will be expecting a bit of flair against a poor Sunderland side and unless they can break down Sunderland early on I can imagine the Hawthorns getting quite restless.
Steven Fletcher on the back of a hat-trick for Scotland and ex Wolves player holds some anytime appeal at 7/2. Certainly worth a nibble at that price.
Whether these can be classed as super single’s I’m not sure but there’s a few over 2.5’s I fancy:
Southampton v Leicester
5/6
Crewe v Gillingham
3/4
Wigan v Colchester
9/10
I’ll be taking these in an over 2.5 goal accumulator and having singles on BTTS and over 2.5.
I’m not confident in any of the single shortlist. :-/
Chelsea -1 at 4/5 is appealing as I think they are due a result, not sure if Costa is back though.
I really fancy St Mirren to win at Livingston at 13/10 with Stan James.
They have had a poor start to the Championship, and the thumping of Dunfermline last week could kick start their season.
They seem to be better away from home and Livingston have been struggling.
I have backed St Mirren (draw no bet) at 4/6, just to try and play safe.
Oozie, Livi won at St Mirren earlier in the season so that’s a concern. I want to see some consistency from Saints before I consider backing them.
True Mr F, both in League and Cup at St Mirren Park.
It was the very beginning of the season and St Mirren had a fairly new team back then.
They have added players since then in Webster and Shankland and we should see some consistency soon in the League, hopefully starting on Saturday.
Fingers crossed for my sake.
And that’s coming from a Morton man. :-/
Oozie, can’t believe a Morton man’s backing St Mirren.
Morton are my maw’s team – but she moved from Gourock to middle class Clydebank when she got married and even though I was taken to Cappielow a few times as a kid by my uncles (Andy Ritchie days) they couldn’t convert me.
I go with my gut feeling Mr Fixit, and I NEVER back the Ton.
I go everywhere with Morton, so I know the division pretty well.
It’s a win / win situation for me, if they win I get money and if they lose I’m happy at the thought of them struggling. :-/
Good on yer maw, your showing your age by saying you witnessed the great Andy Ritchie.
I also saw him apparently, but I was a toddler back then and can’t remember all these corners he scored from. :-/
Oozie, long-term users will know my age after I celebrated my 50th by going to Augusta.
I remember him scoring against either Celtic or Rangers in the late 70s in a draw. Place was packed.
Was a brilliant player for Morton – not so great when he joined us in the twilight of his career.
Another killer injury time sucker punch for the Ton today.
Between them and Scotland, I can’t take anymore.
The blow was softened with my St Mirren “draw no bet” coming in. :-)
Peterborough 2/1 at Port Vale playing great
Walsall at evens to a poor chesterfield side when Walsall are top!
St.Johnstone 11/10 Home win v Patrick Thistle.
As I said yesterday, St Johnstone look a tremendous bet at that price. Odds sure to be cut.
Mr fix, I have a 3 trebles that I fancy:
1st: Rangers -2AH
Exeter city. Bts&ov 2.5
Wrexham Ov2.5
2nd: Dunfermline 2&ov2.5
Bromley bts&over 2.5
Lincoln city ov2.5
3rd: Sheffield united ov2.5
Norwich city to win
Burnley fc ov2.5
Lincoln city bts
Shi
3rd:
Hope I’m wrong here but ,Braintree have a very useful away form and don’t concede many ,Lincoln I think will be without a couple of regulars in wood and Stanley ,but on the plus side Hearn scored midweek and is another step closer to full fitness and rhead will be hoping to get back on the scoresheet ,although losing midweek Lincoln played very well and should’ve won comfortably ,just one of those days apperently ,,,maybe a 1-1 draw on the cards taking braintrees away form into account ,,up the imps
Thank God the Bizarre qualifiers are over Mr. Ryan ,Radu, craigyboy, saint greg browning and this other guy who usually links his comments to his blog, let’s make it happen this weekend.
Surely Gillingham away at Crewe is worth a look. Gills form has stayed strong. Il be going for win and btts at around 3/1
wtf the super single was always a wdw
West Ham tempt me at 16/5. Palace don’t do draws under Pardew, and they prefer to play on the counter which they likely won’t be able to do here. Payet is avaliable at 4/1 anytime which I think i’ll have a nibble at.
Think Everton are overpriced @12/5 and also like st Johnstone @11/10 a double on Everton n st Johnstone just to score a goal is 4/5 at Boylesports that looks a safe bet to me but all depends on wot kind ov price ur lookin for
I stil bliv in dunfemline
Ayr to Score 2+ (20/19) or even to win (6/4). Forfar got of to a really good start winning their first 3 games but have struggled since then. They’ve won 1 of their last 6, conceding twice in 5 of those, and needed a stoppage time equaliser when the sides met at Ayr earlier in the season. Ayr are undefeated since their opening day loss, winning 6 of the 8 games and scoring twice in 7 of them.
sounds a good one think I’ll be dabbling on ayr ,
Really fancy dunfermline to get back on track this weekend …think they will scratching at the doors after last week’s demolition…favour bet 365. 4/6 over 1.5 goals as opposed to same price on them to win on lads shop coupon…and it’s on BBC Alba.17.15…
Wycombe away to Stevenage at 11/10 seems a great price considering the form of Stevenage. St Johnstone at home to Partick at 1/1 and Bury at home at 13/10 is my treble for the weekend.
Really like the look of St johnstone. Partick not won in 5 away matches ( 2 draws and 3 defeats) and only scored once whilst St johnstone unbeaten in 5 home league matches (3 wins 2 draws) haven’t found scoring an issue but have conceded in all 5. Head to head Partick have not won on their travels against St johnstone since at least 1996, 14 attempts. 9 wins for St johnstone and 5 draws.
I’m a Morton fan aswell from Rothesay stay in Livingston now, I don’t know why you were so confident in them going down at the start of the season, they should stay up easily as long as we perform at home. However I must say I fancy Falkirk against them this weekend. St Mirren and playing in Livingston too wouldn’t surprise me seeing an away win as much as I hate to say it, Livi are bad.
Steffan, too many Morton fans. If it wasn’t for the fact I saw Clydebank win 7-1 at Cappielow one year I’d ban the lot of you!
There was a lot worried at the start of the season Steffan, as we hadn’t brought many players in when it all kicked off.
We have since brought in strikers Denny Johnstone (on loan from Birmingham), Alex Samuel (on loan from Swansea), and big Luca Gasparotto (on loan from Rangers) and they have improved us slightly.
I still think we will be in the mini relegation league along with Dumbarton, Alloa and Livingston.
I think I remember that 7-1 game Mr F, was that in the Ken Eadie days, he probably got about 5 ?
I’m with you on Peterborough and Walsall who, for me, jump off the page well ahead than the rest!
Man City over 2.5 TG at 6/5 is surely worth a shout against a Bournemouth side who have conceded 3 at West Ham and Norwich this season.
St johnstone v partick
home win
single if you can still get evens or better
Burnley to beat a poor Bolton side 3/4 ( on PP ) looks a solid punt to me.
Bolton down to the bare bones and burnley flying
6/4 SPURS to beat Liverpool.
Klopp has a lot of dead wood at Liverpool and a depleted side will lose to spurs. There is too much hype regarding Klopp.
It’s a little short to be considered your super single but Millwall at home to Swindon at 4/5 would be my banker for the weekend.
That being said, my vote goes to Peterborough. :-)
Millwall and over 1.5mgls is 11/10 at PP if you’re interested Clarkez
Spurs to win
Portsmouth to beat a very poor newport county away. Surely beat bottom of league newport. 4-5 ladbrokes
For Sunday rather than Sat but MrF what do you think of Ingolstadt DC? They are away at Stuttgart who are routed to the bottom and have lost their last 4 home games – I.e. All of them! Ingolstadt have won 3 and drawn 1 of their 4 away games.
21/20 Ingolstadt DC seems too big.
On Saturday, Bayern Munich to score in both halves is 4/7 (Will Hill) and Bayern HT/FT is 4/6 at Boyle Sports, looks pretty good though probably too short for Super Single.
However, Bayern to score 3 or more is 4/5 at Coral and looks good?
LiamW, I have so much to do for Saturday’s paper and the site I won’t look at Sunday’s card until Saturday night.
the two that stand out for in that list there MR F are
Chelsea V Villa BTTS
Walsall
however my BTTS & Win super single will be as follows
Southampton WIN & BTTS @ 9/4
and it looks like the bookies are expecting it ;)
good luck all
Wouldn’t trust us (bham) mr f at home to qpr
we are much better away where we can sit back and let teams onto us, at home we struggle when the onus is on us
Lost our last two home games to forest and Rotherham
robbo, will bear it in mind and always good to hear a fan’s view.
St Johnstone must be the favourites and I hope Greg agrees.
I quite fancy leicester myself, and i might back west ham as well at those odds.
I quite fancy leicester myself, and i might back west ham as well at those odds.
Simonafc, Bury I think have a tough game and I’d prefer to go for goals – the Euro games I haven’t looked at yet.
Thanks Mr F
hello, mr fixit, my super single this week appears in the form of horse racing, with the big meeting at ascot and the 2.30 race, the bet has to be solow 11/10 @bet365 at the time of writing, all you can say about this horse, has been said already in many previews, but the one thing this horse has bounds of is class, class and more class, but with gleneagles in the field, the price is still good, gleneagles might not run, depending on the ground condititions, but even if he does the 11/10 is a steal and a 5 star bet. i know the price is short on solow, but would be a much bigger with a certain horses withdrawl.
