Cheltenham 2016: Voice of Value’s Stable Plate Tips

Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate

  • 4.10pm
  • Handicap chase over fences
  • 2 miles 5 furlongs
  • Competitive chase with a classy field
I’ll keep this simple. JOHN’S SPIRIT has been campaigned for this race all season and although there is an argument over whether he prefers the ‘old’ course here rather than the ‘new’ course there is absolutely no doubt that he enjoys coming to Cheltenham and that he has once considered a real possibility for the Gold Cup.

He definitely has a few pounds in hand over most of these and whilst there might be one or two who are even better handicapped I am quite happy going with John’s Spirit each way, as unimaginative as it may seem. Jonjo nearly managed to pull off a similar feat with Holywell earlier in the week which suggests to me that he will have John’s Spirit primed for action too.

An alternative at a slightly bigger price is FINGAL BAY who has a great record here, is versatile groundwise and if they don’t run him off his feet at the start with a strong pace he will be staying on up the hill at the end. Richard Johnson is an added bonus in the saddle.

JOHN’S SPIRIT – 2pts e/w at 6/1 (Ladbrokes)
FINGAL BAY – 1pt e/w at 10/1 (Ladbrokes)
