ANGE POSTECOGLOU looks set to end his thrilling debut season at Tottenham Hotspur empty handed, unless they can pull off a remarkable title triumph in the Premier League, starting with a victory over Brentford.

Fans had high hopes the big Aussie would end their long wait for silverware after warming to his free-flowing football but Postecoglou fell at the first hurdle in the Carabao Cup and crashed out of the FA Cup at the weekend thanks to a late Manchester City goal.

Everyone thought that cup tie would be a thriller, including Slips Tips, but it was settled by a controversial strike from Nathan Ake, with Spurs crying foul as they thought keeper Guglielmo Vicario had been fouled.

Now Tottenham Hotspur have only the Premier League to concentrate on and they find themselves in a good position, sitting just eight points off the summit and three adrift of a top-four place.

Key players are also returning from injury so they will be confident of defeating a Brentford side who have been drifting alarmingly towards the drop zone in recent weeks.

Ivan Toney's long ban for betting breaches was the main reason for Brentford's dip in form so it was no coincidence when his return led to a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest last time out.

That moved Brentford six points clear of the bottom three and boss Thomas Frank will now be looking to climb further up the table with his talisman back.

The Bees gaffer has also been forced to do without other key players due to injury and when he gets close to his strongest side back, Brentford should comfortably avoid the drop.

How the bookies view it

It's no great surprise to see Tottenham Hotspur as heavy favourites and their best price is just 4/6 at Coral. Brentford are as big as 4/1 with 888Sport while the draw pays 17/5 at Betfair.

Recent head to head

There has been nothing between these sides since Brentford were promoted to the Premier League, with one win apiece and three draws. It was a 2-2 thriller when these sides faced off earlier this season, with all four goals coming in the first half.

Players to watch

Timo Werner has looked a threat in his first two games since signing for Spurs but has missed a finishing touch. The German is 9/4 at SkyBet to open his account but might be more likely for an assist, which pays a tempting 3/1 at McBookie.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one who made a few quid by backing Toney to score on his much-hyped Brentford return. He will fancy his chances against a Tottenham Hotspur defence that always gives you chances and Toney is 15/8 at Paddy Power for another goal.

Anything else catch the eye?

Going for goals is usually a smart option when Postecoglou is in the dugout and the bookies are expecting a thriller. Combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals only pays 5/6 with Bet365 but over 1.5 first-half goals is better at 13/10 with Coral.

With Postecoglou playing such a high defensive line, betting on offsides is often profitable and Unibet are offering 29/20 on the assistant referees putting their flags up over 5.5 times. The Aussie's teams usually rack up plenty of corners and that makes Tottenham -2 worth a look here in the corner handicap at 11/10 with Bet365.
