ONE of the standout fixtures from this midweek's set of Champions League matches will take place at the Etihad on Wednesday night as Man City play host to Paris Saint-Germain.

The two sides renew hostilities after Lionel Messi scored his first PSG goal to help the French side to a 2-0 victory in September's reverse fixture.

Since that pulsating encounter at Parc des Princes, Man City have bagged back-to-back wins over Club Brugge, leapfrogging Les Parisiens to go top of the pool in the process.

Closer to home, Pep Guardiola's star-studded side continued their Premier League title defence with a comfortable 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday, in a game which brought up my recommended Bet Builder.

PSG, meanwhile, have been far from convincing in Ligue 1 in recent weeks, with four of their last five victories all coming by a one-goal margin.

Mauricio Pochettino's men are currently 11 points clear at the summit but there have been question marks surrounding some of their performances this season, particularly in the Champions League.

Outright Betting

Man City, who can win the section with a victory on Wednesday night, head into this mouthwatering meeting as odds-on 13/17 favourites with SBK.

Paris Saint-Germain played out a pair of draws in their previous two Group A road trips and the same outcome here is priced up at 31/10 (SBK) while the French powerhouse are an unfancied 39/10 (SBK) to triumph in Manchester.

Betting Angles

Man City have won their last nine Champions League games at the Etihad but I suspect this heavyweight showdown could be closer than the odds suggest.

As such, there isn't a huge amount of appeal in the 1×2 market here but backing over 4.5 cards looks like a nice alternative at 10/11 with PaddyPower.

PSG have played their part in plenty of fiery fixtures in recent campaigns and I feel we have more than enough ingredients for sparks to fly in Manchester this midweek.

It was the French superpowers' ill-discipline that saw them exit last season's competition in acrimony, with the Parisians picking up a red card in each of their two semi-final showdowns with Wednesday's opponents Manchester City.

Collectively the pair shared ten yellows and two reds when they faced off in the last four last term and things threatened to boil over when the two sides crossed paths again in September's reverse fixture in Paris.

It's also worth noting that experienced Serie A referee Daniele Orsato has been selected to take charge of this clash of the tians, an appointment that immediately had my eyes drawn to the card markets.

The no-nonsense Italian whistler has a reputation for being card-happy, with a whopping 6.5 card per-game average across all competitions this season, and that only adds to the appeal of siding with over 4.5 bookings in this blockbuster bout on Wednesday night.

With all things considered, I'll also chance an Etihad longshot and back both Marco Verratti and Rodri to receive a card at 10/1 with Bet 365.

The aforementioned duo are no stranger to the referees notebook and both should have their hands full here given the calibre of attacking talent that they will be coming up against.
