ASTON VILLA will be bidding to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they lock horns with Leicester on Sunday afternoon.

Steven Gerard suffered his first loss as Villa boss on Wednesday night, with his new side putting in a spirited performance in a 2-1 defeat to Man City.

Prior to that setback, the Liverpool legend had made a perfect start to life as Aston Villa manager, having claimed maximum points against Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Seeking to bounce back from the aforementioned defeat last time out, the Villans welcome Leicester to the West Midlands this weekend.

The King Power club have struggled for consistency this season and currently sit down in 10th position in the Premier League table after 14 rounds of fixtures.

Brendan Rodgers' side appeared to have turned a corner with a 4-2 win over Watford last weekend before the inconsistent Foxes were held t0 a 2-2 draw at Southampton in midweek, in a game which brought up my over 2.5 goal selection at St Mary's.

Outright Betting

Aston Villa, who could move above Leicester in the Premier League table with a win here, enter this contest as slight 17/12 (SBK) favourites.

Leicester's last two Premier League away matches have ended level and the same outcome on Sunday is trading at 5/2 (SBK) while a Foxes triumph can be backed at 39/19 (SBK) with the same firm

Betting Angles

It's hard to be tempted about either team winning this match but siding with over 2.5 match goals looks like an appealing alternative at 10/11 with Bet 365.

Aston Villa have scored in all but one of their 14 Premier League outings this season so far, with nine of those fixtures featuring three or more match goals.

What's more, six of Villa's last eight league games produced three or more strikes and that trend could continue when a Leicester team that is not exactly renowned for being watertight come to town

Brendan Rodgers' side have posted a paltry three clean sheets across their last 29 Premier League games, with the Foxes failing to shut out their opponents since the opening weekend of the campaign.

The King Power clubs defensive deficiencies has contributed to over 2.5 goals copping in 10 of the visitors' opening 14 league games of the season, with no fewer than four of those fixtures finishing with a scoreline of 2-2.

With all that in mind, coupled with the fact that overs has banked in 19 of the pair's collective 28 Premier League matches this season, I'll happily snap up the 10/11 (Bet 365) on both teams combining for three or more strikes during this contest.

I'll also dip into the player props market and have a punt on Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings to have one or more headed shots on target at 17/2 with PaddyPower.

Leicester's set-piece leakage reared its head again at Southampton in midweek – the seventh time Rodgers' rearguard has conceded from dead-ball scenario this season – and Villa skipper Mings looks like a prime candidate to capitalise on that aerial vulnerability at Villa Park on Sunday
