Nuno Espirito Santo faces his former club for the second time in the space of weeks, as Tottenham Hotspur travel to Molineaux for a Carabao Cup third round clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Spurs won the first meeting earlier this season and with Wolves still looking off colour, they are likely to once again have the upper hand.

Wolverhampton Wanderers progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup after claiming a 4-0 victory over Championship side Nottingham Forest. They had four different goalscorers with Roman Saiss, Daniel Podence, Morgan Gibbs-White and Trincao all on target.

It was an impressive but rare win for Wolves, who are still trying to find their feet under new manager Bruno Lage. They have been beaten four times across all competitions and head into Tuesday’s clash off the back of a 2-0 home defeat to newly promoted Brentford in the Premier League fixture last Saturday.

Wolves appear to be lacking any real threat in attack with striker Raul Jimenez struggling to find his best form. They have failed to score in four of their six matches across all competitions this season and did not register a single attempt on target against Brentford.

After starting the season with three straight victories, things appear to have gone slightly downwards for Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks. They have now gone three matches without a win across all competitions and were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea last Sunday.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo will be keen to get back to winning ways and will welcome the distraction of the Carabao Cup. Having already won at Molineaux this season, Tottenham will be confident of coming out on top on Wednesday.

Tottenham’s fine showing earlier in the season was driven by a solid defence which saw them keep three straight clean sheets. Their recent poor run coincided with a number of absences in the team and with players starting to return, they will be confident of getting their season back on track.

How the bookies view it

Tottenham will be keen to recapture their early season form that saw them keep three straight clean sheets.
