Poland will continue their pursuit of Group I leaders England as they host San Marino in a 2022 World Cup qualifying fixture at Stadion Naradowy. The Poles are expected to have too much for San Marino who are the whipping boys of the group.

Poland played out a 1-1 home draw with England in their previous qualifying fixture. They looked to be heading for defeat after conceding midway through the second half before Damian Szymanski struck a dramatic equaliser deep into added time.

The Poles are still in contention for automatic qualification and are five points behind England with four matches left to play in the series. They have won two of their last three qualifying matches, including a 7-1 victory over San Marino in the reverse fixture.

Led by the impressive Robert Lewandowski, Poland have been impressive in attack with 12 goals scored in their last three matches. The striker has six goals in the qualifiers and will fancy his chances of adding to that tally on Saturday.

San Marino suffered a 5-0 defeat to Albania last time out in the qualifiers. They were no match for the Albanians, offering little attacking threat and finishing without a single attempt on goal.

Franco Varrella’s men are one of the worst teams in the entire qualifying series and have lost all six of their matches in Group I. They have conceded 24 times while their only goal came in the reverse fixture against Poland.

Away from the qualifiers, San Marino are often poor in international football with their last win coming in July 2014.

How the bookies view it

The bookies have Poland as overwhelming favourites with a home win priced at a minimal 1/100 by SBK. An unlikely victory for San Marino is valued at a massive 289/1 by SBK while a draw is set at odds of 50/1 by betfair.

Head to head
