NEWCASTLE UNITED will be looking to bounce back from their first Premier League defeat of the season when they come up against Crystal Palace at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon.

Eddie Howe's side suffered late heartbreak at Liverpool on Wednesday night, as Fabio Carvalho scored a dramatic 98th-minute goal to condemn the Magpies to a 2-1 defeat.

That late strike snapped Newcastle's four-game unbeaten start to the top-flight season, a sequence that included a well-deserved 3-3 draw with champions Manchester City.

As such, the Toon will be looking to get back on track when Crystal Palace come to town this weekend.

Patrick Viera's side have made a mixed start to the season, posting one win, two draws and two defeats across their opening five matches of the campaign.

Last time out, the Eagles missed an opportunity to break into the top half of the table as they conceded a late equaliser at home to London neighbours Brentford.

Outright Betting

Newcastle, who have lost just one of their last 12 Premier League home games, head into this game as 21/20 favourites with BoyleSports.

Last season's reverse fixture ended all-square and the same outcome here can be backed at 13/5 (SBK) while Crystal Palace are 29/10 (SBK) outsiders to pocket all three points.

Betting Angles

There isn't a huge amount of appeal in the 1×2 market here but backing both teams to score looks like an eye-catching alternative at even-money (13/15) with SBK.

Goals have been a regular feature in Newcastle's recent matches, with both teams getting on the scoresheet in each of their last three Premier League outings.

What's more, the Magpies have made the net bulge in 11 of their last 12 top-flight home fixtures, a sample that includes recent meetings with heavyweights Manchester City and Liverpool.

However, at the other end of the park, Newcastle's backline is still a work in  progress, with Howe's team failing to keep their sheets clean in six of their last nine league games dating back to last season.

As for Crystal Palace, they make the trip north to Tyneside with decent form built on an attacking threat that has seen them score in each of their last four Premier League games, including a brace at the Etihad last weekend.

Not only did both teams oblige in Manchester last Saturday, but the same bet would have also paid out in each of the Eagles' last four league matches, so with all things considered, siding with the same wager here stands out at 11/13 with SBK.

I’ll also be waiting to see who starts at right-back for both Newcastle and Crystal Palace, and if both Kieran Trippier and Nathanial Clyne get the nod, then I'll happily have a punt on both respective players to pick up a card at 11/2 and 5/1 with Bet 365.

The two right-backs could have their hands full here if faced with lightning-quick wingers Allan Saint-Maximin and Wilfried Zaha, and with that in mind, both players could also worth be throwing some loose change at in a bold Bet Builder double at 40/1 (Bet 365).
