Qatar are looking to retain their AFC Asian Cup title as they battle Jordan in the final on Saturday. The Qataris have experience of winning this title and should claim the upper hand over Jordan, who are making their first ever appearance at this stage of the competition.

Jordan booked their place in Saturday’s final after claiming a 2-0 victory over South Korea in the semi-final. Second half efforts from Yazan Al Naimat and Mousa Tamari were enough to earn them the win.

Having never gone behind the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup, Jordan have been the surprise team of this year’s competition. They have now reached the final of the tournament and will be looking to become first time winners.

Jordan’s run to the final is even more impressive considering their slow start to the competition. Hussein Ammouta’s men only claimed one win during the group stage but have kicked on since reaching the knockout phase.

Qatar were given a stern test by Iran before claiming a 3-2 victory in their semi-final fixture. They fought back from behind to lead through Jassem Gaber and Akram Afif but still needed a late effort from Almoez Ali to secure the win and progress to Saturday’s clash.

The Qataris are defending champions of the Asian Cup and are looking to become the first team to successfully defend the title since Japan in 2004. They have been arguably the best team in this year’s competition and are yet to taste defeat in their run to the final.

Led by Akram Afif and Almoez Ali, the goals have flowed freely for Qatar, who are among the leading scorers in the competition. However, they have struggled to keep things tight at the back and are without a clean sheet in the last three matches.
