LIVERPOOL start their quest to knock Manchester City off their perch with a trip to the capital on Saturday lunchtime to face newly-promoted Fulham.

Jurgen Klopp's side faced ultimate disappointment after falling short in the league and the Champions League Final against Real Madrid last season when it looked like they were poised to make history by winning a Quadruple.

They have of course lost Sadio Mane but have forked out a record £85 million transfer to land Darwin Nunez and he hit the ground running last week in the Community Shield when they defeated City.

Klopp has a settled squad and are expected to get their campaign off and running in west London against Marco Silva's side.

Fulham have splashed out around £35 million this summer with their marquee signing Joao Palhinha from Sporting Lisbon. They rounded off their pre-season campaign last week with a home draw against Villarreal and had a mixed bag where they won against Nice and were thrashed by Benfica on consecutive days.

Having being something of a yo-yo club recently, the Craven Cottage side will be desperately trying to avoid going straight back down.

But for Liverpool, the hard work starts now.

How the bookies view it

Liverpool are heavy odds-on as you would expect. They are around the 1/4 price, although there is a touch of 4/13 with SBK

The hosts can be backed at 10/1 with Coral with the draw 5/1 with bet365.

Recent head to heads

Fulham have given Liverpool plenty of trouble recently. In fact, they drew 1-1 at Craven Cottage in their last meeting, as can be seen below and won 1-0 at Anfield.

Players to watch

All eyes will be on Nunez on his league debut and the Uruguayan striker is 5/4 with 10Bet to open his account in the Premier League in London.

The stats last season for Fulham's Serbian hitman Aleksandar Mitrovic were outrageous. He netted 43 goals in 44 starts. He is 5/2 with Unibet to score anytime and if the hosts are to score, he will very likely be the man.

Anything else catch the eye?

Liverpool are far too short to be backed outright, but they should win here in what should be an entertaining clash.

Fulham netted 56 goals in their 23 home games last season and they could well breach that Liverpool defence again. And Liverpool do yield chances. Go for both teams to score and a Liverpool win at 7/4 with Boylesports.

Again, goals could be the way to go here and an away win and over 3.5 goals is 8/5 with bet365.
