Feyenoord host Ajax in an Eredivisie fixture on Sunday as they look to continue their pursuit of leaders PSV Eindhoven. Ajax are still a bit out of sorts and should find things difficult against Feyenoord, who often do their best work at home.

Feyenoord head into Sunday’s clash off the back of a 0-0 draw with Volendam in their previous Eredivisie fixture. They dominated the possession and had multiple attempts on target but lacked the cutting edge in attack.

While manager Arne Slot will be disappointed not to have matched the performance with a win, the result extends Feyenoord’s unbeaten run to seven fixtures. They have picked up five wins in that run and are second on the Eredivisie standings, nine points off the pace.

One constant aspect of Feyenoord’s campaign is that they often do their best work at De Kuip having suffered just one Eredivisie home defeat all season. They have won their last four home matches and claimed a 4-2 victory over Utrecht in their previous fixture in front of their fans.

Ajax are also coming off a draw as they were held to a 1-1 scoreline by Go Ahead Eagles last time out in the Eredivisie. They struck first through Anton Gaaei and held on for long periods before conceding a late equaliser.

That result means Ajax have now picked up just one win in their last six matches across all competitions. They have drawn four times in that run and are currently fifth on the standings, well behind the front runners.

Ajax claimed a 3-1 victory over PEC Zwolle in their previous fixture on the road, although that was the first win in their last four away matches. John van’t Schip’s men have also struggled to maintain their discipline at the back and are without a clean sheet in their last 13 away matches across all competitions.

How the bookies view it

Feyenoord are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 1/2 by bet365. A victory for Ajax is valued at 11/2 by Unibet while a draw is set at odds of 19/20 by William Hill.

Head to head

Ajax have a 40-10 advantage with 18 draws from 68 previous matches against Feyenoord. However, Feyenoord have won two of the last three meetings and claimed a 4-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in September with Santiago Gimenez netting a hat-trick.

Players to watch

Santiago Gimenez is the leading scorer for Feyenoord with 21 goals and will be the one to watch on Sunday. The striker has also found the net five times in the last three meetings with Ajax and is priced at 5/6 by bet365 to maintain his scoring run.

With leading scorer Brian Brobbey still out injured, Chuba Akpom could be worth keeping an eye on for Ajax. The forward has nine Eredivisie goals so far and is priced at 11/4 by bet365 to get on the score sheet on Sunday.

Anything else catch the eye?

Feyenoord and Ajax have quality in attack and could be set to serve up a high-scoring encounter on Sunday. Over 3.5 goals could be considered at 11/8 with Unibet , who is also offering 8/11 on both teams to score.

With Feyenoord priced at minimal odds for a straight victory, a win and both teams to score could be considered ah 7/4 with bet365.
