ENGLAND must get themselves up off the canvas in short order when they bring the curtain down on their Nations League campaign at home to Germany on Monday night.

The Three Lions were relegated to the second tier for the first time in the tournament's short history following a limp 1-0 loss in Italy on Friday night.

That San Siro setback was England's penultimate fixture before the 2022 World Cup and it has left boss Gareth Southgate facing serious questions over his future

As such, the England manager will be looking to muster a response from his team when they come up against old adversaries Germany under the arch on Monday night.

The Germans' Nations League hopes were also extinguished last time out, as their 1-0 loss at home to Hungary on Friday night proved to be fatal.

That means this game now becomes little more than a friendly fixture for both teams but the pair will still want a better performance to build some confidence going into Qatar.

Outright Betting

England, who famously beat Germany at this venue just over 15 months ago, enter this contest as 11/8 favourites with Bet 365.

Germany's previous two Group A3 away games ended all square and the same outcome here can be backed at 11/5 (William Hill) while Hansi Flick's side are 9/4 (SBK) outsiders to sign off with a Wembley win.

Betting Angles

It's difficult to be tempted about either team here so I'm going to steer clear of the outright betting and instead dip into the Asian Total Corner market.

We can get some even-money (1/1) with Bet 365 on this fixture generating over 8.5 flag kicks and that line looks worthy of a minor interest in what is a pretty meaningless affair on paper.

As already alluded, neither side has much to play for here, but that could lead to both sides playing with the handbrake off and hopefully lend its hand to an open and entertaining encounter in the English capital.

While both of these European heavyweights have underperformed in this section, both managers have an abundance of attacking talent to choose from.

What's more, this fixture could well represent a number of players' final opportunity to shine ahead of squads being finalised for this year's winter showpiece in Qatar.

It's also worth pointing out that June's reverse fixture between the pair saw both teams combine to comfortably break the over 8.5 corner barrier, with the final flag kick figure standing at 13 from that meeting in Munich.

The Germans subsequent games away at Hungary and at home to Italy also yielded a minimum of nine match corners, so there is some recent scope for going for the overs.

With this in mind, and given that both sides can afford to approach this match-up with a relaxed attitude, I'm prepared to have small play on Over 8.5 Asian Total Corners at Evens (Bet 365) in a game that is essentially a dead-rubber.

This match between England and Germany will be played on Sep 26, 2022 and kick off at 19:45. Check below for our tipsters best England vs Germany prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
