DUNFERMLINE entertain Kilmarnock in the latest Viaplay Cup group stage game, with both sides making encouraging starts to the season.

For Killie, manager Derek McInnes has publicly bemoaned the format of the competition because he believes it comes too soon in the season when squads are nowhere near ready.

The Ayrshire side have had a relatively quiet summer, with their headline incoming transfers including the return of Stuart Findlay and the arrivals of Matty Kennedy from Aberdeen and Kyle Magennis from Hibs.

Perhaps their biggest loss though will be McInnes' lieutenant for many years when Tony Docherty opted to become a manager in his own right at Dundee.

But they got their campaign off to a decent enough start with a comfortable 3-0 win over Annan Athletic last week.

Dunfermline are viewed as possible dark horses in the Championship and held Fife rivals Raith Rovers to a draw in their opening game of the campaign last week before also easily seeing off Annan in midweek.

James McPake has only brought in four players and seems happy enough to go with the majority of his squad who romped to League One success last season.

How the bookies view it

Kilmarnock are hevy odds-on shots here at 13/20 with McBookie.com. The same firm have the Pars at 7/2 and the draw at 14/5

Recent head to heads

Dunfermline haven't beaten Kilmarnock in their last five meetings at East End Park.

And the last time they were in the same league, Killie go promoted and the Pars went down two seasons ago with the Ayrshire side winning two and the other two games being drawn.

Players to watch

Lewis McCann is viewed as a bright prospect at East End Park and has scored three goals in two games already this season. He netted double figures last season too.

Danny Armstrong enjoyed an excellent campaign for Killie last season and was arguably their best player. He takes the penalties too for Killie and converted one last week.

Anything else catch the eye?

This should be a closer encounter than the layers suggest and the league difference may not be obvious. The hosts look good value at 21/20 on the double chance market to either win or draw.

East End Park is something of a fortress for the Pars and Killie's form was appalling last season on the road.

Usually, both of these teams are well organised too, so go for under 2.5 goals at
