BURTON ALBION have a chance to go top of English League One for a day at least if they can defeat Cheltenham Town at their Pirelli Stadium.

The Brewers made everyone sit up in English football's third tier with hugely impressive consecutive home wins against big-spending, under-achieving clubs Ipswich Town and Sunderland.

However, after a 100 per cent start to their league campaign they were sent tumbling back down to earth after they crashed to something of a surprise 3-0 defeat at Cambridge United.

They are up against the Robins, who have started the season slowly with a win, a draw and two defeats in their opening four games. However, their one win also came against Ipswich which has to be respected. They have also got past two rounds so far in the League Cup after a midweek penalty shootout win over Gillingham.

So Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side will have real test when an unpredictable Cheltenham outfit visit the Staffordshire town on Friday night.

How the bookies view it

Burton are the 6/5 favourites with Tonybet. Michael Duff's visitors are 5/2 outsiders with Unibet and the draw can be backed at 23/10 with bet365.

Recent head to heads

This is their first meeting in the league for seven seasons and the sides haven't met since 2015. Burton have won four out of the last five meetings between the teams. For more recent relevance, here's Burton's 1-0 win over Sunderland at home earlier this season below.

Players to watch

Burton stalwart Lucas Atkins has been at the club for seven years now and netted 63 league goals including one this season against Ipswich Town. The former Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies striker is also on the penalties and is 15/8 to score with Paddy Power.

Alfie May has already scored three times this season for Cheltenham including two in his last two games. He's scored 16 league goals in 51 starts for Town and has to be a danger at 27/10 with Unibet.

Anything else catch the eye?

Burton have won two out of two league games at home against bigger teams than Cheltenham, who have collected just one point from their two away games. Anything odds against for Burton is crying out to be to be backed here.

However, Cheltenham have scored in every league and cup game this season, so there could be value in both teams to score and a home win market at 19/5 with William Hill.

When the markets are formed, it could be with looking at the price for Michael Mancienne to be booked. The Burton star has been yellow carded in all three games he's played this season.
