BRIGHTON aren't mathematically safe from relegation but they head into this clash with Newcastle knowing it would take a freak set of results to send them down.

Six points ahead of Bournemouth and Aston Villa, with a superior goal difference, the Seagulls are effectively safe with two games to go but will still want to get the job done against the Magpies.

I thought Graham Potter's men would lose at Southampton in midweek but they dug out a point and should avoid defeat against a Newcastle side who have nothing to play for.

Since thrashing Bournemouth 4-1 at the start of the month, Steve Bruce's men have gone four games without a win, losing the last three. Last time out they crashed 3-1 at home to Spurs, with Harry Kane delivering for our man Slips Tips.

It looks like they just want the season to finish and for the uncertainty over the club's Saudi takeover bid to finally end. So it would be a surprise if they hit top gear again at the AMEX.

How the bookies view it

Brighton are odds-on favourites for this one and their best price is 7/8 with Betway. The draw shouldn't be ruled out at 13/5 with Unibet while a Newcastle win is 15/4 at BetVictor.

Recent head to head

There hasn't been much between these sides in recent seasons, with the last nine meetings producing three draws, four Brighton wins and two Newcastle victories.

Their last two showdowns have ended level, a 1-1 draw at the AMEX last season (below) followed by a dreary 0-0 stalemate at St James' Park this term.

Players to watch

Neal Maupay took his tally for the season into double figures with his strike against Southampton in midweek. The Frenchman is Brighton's biggest threat and is 8/5 with SportNation for anytime scorer and 4/1 at Bet365 to break the deadlock.

Miguel Almiron is always a livewire for Newcastle and the Paraguayan is a more-than-decent 6/1 with Betfair to get on the scoresheet here.

Anything else catch the eye?

Recent history suggests a lack of goalmouth action in this one, with the last five meetings producing just four goals. Under 2.5 goals pays 4/5 at BetVictor while the odds increase to 9/4 with SportNation for under 1.5 strikes.

Betting against both teams to score also appeals at 10/11 with Betfred as that has come up in four of the last five meetings between these sides.
