THE Bundesliga continues this midweek and Borussia Dortmund collide with Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening.

Both German giants have taken maximum points from their two respective fixtures since the German top-flight resumed and the outcome of this titanic title tussle could go a long way to deciding how the season will unfold.

Die Schwarzgelben trail Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich by four points and the hosts warmed up for this showdown by earning a hard-fought 2-0 win away at Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon.

Lucien Favre's vibrant young side have lit up the Bundesliga since the turn of the year, however, Dortmund won't be able to feed off the support of their famed “Yellow Wall” for this potential title-decider.

Bayern, after a slow start to the season, find themselves in familiar territory at the top of the table and Die Roten have been almost-perfect since December having won 12 of their last 13 Bundesliga assignments.

Hansi Flick's side thumped Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 on Saturday evening and three points on Tuesday evening would put the Bavarians on the brink of an eighth successive league title.

The Betting Odds

Borussia Dortmund, despite being the only side in the division who have an unbeaten home record this season, are big outsiders at 29/10 with UniBet and a share of the spoils is also deemed unlikely at 10/3 with the same firm.

Bayern Munich have fallen to defeat on two of their last three visits to this venue but go into this battle as odds-on favourites at 5/6 with Bet 365

The Betting Angles

The bookmakers are certainly expecting goals in this bout and that is reflected in the general 1/3 that is available for both teams to score and over 2.5 match goals also looks skinny at 4/11 with Bet 365

Such short odds are hardly surprising given the plethora of attacking talent that will be on display at the Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening, not too mention both sides unsurprisingly top the goals for chart in the German top-tier.

Indeed, there is little value in backing both sides to get on the scoresheet here, however, backing both teams to score and each team to collect over zero cards is a lot more attractive at 4/5 with Bet 365.

The last six fixtures between these old foes has featured a whopping 29 goals – an average of 4.83 goals per-game – and given the array of attacking options both managers can turn towards , coupled with what's at stake, the above-mentioned bet builder catches the eye.

That line of thought has also lured me towards the 10/11 (PaddyPower) on offer for 3+ match goals, 3+ match cards and 6+ match corners on Tuesday evening.

Backing over 2.5 match goals would have banked profit in nine of the last 10 tussles between these two teams and it's also worth noting that eight of Dortmund's last nine games at home have seen three more goals scored.

Furthermore, for all of Bayern's brilliance, they are defensively vulnerable and that was evident on Saturday evening when a Frankfurt side in freefall struck twice at the Allianz Arena.

However, BVB ‘s backline will be presented with the onerous task of trying to shutout a star-studded Bayern side who have banged in 56 goals in their last 17 matches across all competitions.

With the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho strutting their stuff, among others, there should be no shortage of goalmouth action, not to mention both sides are averaging nine and 10 corners per game respectively.

Value could also lie in the card markets given that each team's expansive styles can often leave them exposed, which in turn could lead to some cynical fouls being committed – something that is feasible here given that the outcome of this fixture could be pivotal in determining who goes on to lift the league trophy.

With that in mind, coupled with this being German football's showpiece fixture, I'm also attracted to the 7/5 (William Hill) that is available for both teams to collect 20+ booking points in what should be a captivating contest at the Signal Iduna Park.
