After claiming surprise wins in their opening Group A1 fixtures, Austria and Denmark continue their UEFA Nations League campaign with a clash on Monday. Both nations are likely to serve up a closely fought contest but the Danes look slightly better at the moment and should have the edge.

Austria were impressive in their opening fixture in Group A1 of the UEFA Nations League as they earned a surprise 3-0 victory at Croatia. Marco Arnautovic opened the scoring just before the break while second half goals from Michael Gregoritsch and Marcel Sabitzer completed a comfortable win.

It was a fine start to life under new manager for Ralf Rangnick as the victory means Austria are now sitting top of a difficult group. That result also ended a run of two matches without a win for the Austrians.

Austria are generally solid at home and are unbeaten in their last three matches in front of their fans. They have claimed two wins in that run but were held to a 2-2 draw by Scotland last time out on home soil.

Denmark will also be feeling over the moon after claiming an impressive victory in their opening Group A1 fixture. They fought back from a goal down to beat reigning UNL champions France thanks to Andreas Cornelius’ second half brace.

Although victory in France came as a surprise, the quality of this Danish side has never been in doubt as they appear to have gone up a gear since their semi-final run at Euro 2020. They have won eight of there last 10 matches across all competitions with a 3-0 victory over Serbia preceding Friday’s win in the French capital.

Denmark have also shown some good form on their recent travels with three wins in their last five away matches. The one blemish for the Danes is an inability to keep things tight at the back as Kasper Hjulmand’s men have kept just one clean sheet in their last five matches across all competitions.

How the bookies view it

Denmark have the slight edge among the bookies and are priced at 32/21 by SBK to claim the win. A victory for Austria is valued at 21/10 by Unibet while a draw is set at odds of 23/10 by SBK.

Recent head to head

Denmark have a fine record in this fixture and have won the last three meetings. The Danes also did the double over their rivals during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, claiming a 4-0 victory in Austria before returning home for a 1-0 win.
