JUST one tip for me today at Southwell. COISTE BODHAR had a nice course and distance win last time out and despite the 3lb rise in the weights should go close again today. Good recent form and course and distance form are crucial at this sort of level and he has won off much higher handicap marks in the past.

Recommendation:

3.50 Southwell – COISTE BODHAR – 2pt e/w at 6/1 with William Hill

@elvis-parsley to answer your comment on Monday’s thread,

Archimedes last time out ran a blinder and a run like that again should give him a couple of lengths win, the reason for a performance like that last time against vastly better horses “the first three were rated 95 90 90” was he was out well and running down the middle of the track which is the quickest part as it’s a more firmer surface and although he went from leading to being beat just over two lengths he wasn’t stopping, he was still finishing his race off well but was just beaten by better horses, that run last time was so impressive as on ratings I think he was running about 17lb overweight
Against Something Lucky he was pushed to the far rail which is a lot slower and he was eased late on, that was after being slowish away and doing too much early on to get to the lead, nothing really went for Archimedes that day and against Crosse Fire I got the impression Archimedes won more comfortably than the distance suggests, on Tuesday he is drawn better but going back to that last run it was just so impressive that he has to be the pick here
Saying that though, we would want a good start, I do like Something Lucky on this surface and I have selected the horse a few times, he isn’t out of it but I have to side with Archimedes here

      Cheers John.
Reverse forecast then for me given what you just said. Or tricast with crosse fire as all 3 have recent form on sand.

Unlucky with your thinking john, looked at the race and couldnt see beyond top 2, despite a decent effort in a class 3 recently. Onwards.

He opened at 50/1 and went to 14/1 but that was mainly down to form although some people are on at 50/1
He has since been backed from 14/1 to 10/1 with bet365 and from 11/1 to 9/1 with paddy power

I got on him last night, has shortened a little so here’s hoping. It is Kelly’s only mount, he rides for Mike Murphy again, they teamed up for 1 run Saturday, which won. Since moving stables, the fav ERTIDAAD has won 3 from his last 4 off 45, 47 & 47, today he is rated 51. However, none of those wins had an apprentice take off 7lb and as such, he is running off 44 and remains a danger, as do a few others. Bol.

There is not a lot I do wrong at racing, results are far better than last year but as I said previously last year was a strange year for results, that’s not just me, that’s also the view of many of the top names in the sport, we had a large amount of horses that came 2nd last year especially being beat a neck or less, this year it’s still a lot of 2nds but we are also getting a high percentage of winners
There is nothing different I am doing this year compared to last year and it’s always the strongest horses at the value prices I advise,

So as I said I haven’t changed my racing betting but working with the people I work with has got us to try and maximise our sports bets, sports are different from racing, in racing you can have so many outcomes whereas others sports it’s either one or the other with some sports also having a draw in there as well, so with other sports we are working with shorter prices,
Through trial and error with virtually every sport imaginable the two biggest increases in profit that we have come up with are

    (a) we like a team to score over 1.5 goals as a bet but we now only back our fancied selections at half-time if they didn’t score in the first half, this has brought us a far bigger profit with six months of trials, two examples were Hibernian v Aberdeen 0-0 half-time with Hibernian 4/1 to score over 1.5, it ended 2-0
Last night Palace v Man Utd 2-0 half-time we backed Man Utd over 1.5 at 7/4 but also baxked over 2.5 at 13/2, these are only two examples but there has been far more
Teams only have 45mins but the rewards are far greater as you are getting far bigger odds while placing fewer bets.

    (b) Tennis has always been a profitable sport for me but I wanted to make it more profitable and after six months of trials comparing figures i could see that a far bigger profit was when I only back my fancied selections if they lost the first set

Anyone who backs these sports might want to look at doing this

    • Johnb 6 years ago

Three teams we would look at backing tonight to score over 1.5 goals but only if they don’t score in the first half are Middlesbrough, Bristol City and Aston Villa

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

It’s an interesting strategy. I was watching the Man United game least and at 2-0 down I’d normally look at their price to win.
But they were playing so badly a comeback didn’t look likely. And anyway I already had them in my double.

    • Johnb 6 years ago

They still didn’t play that well in the second half but did play better, it’s something worth keeping an eye on

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

I will – the prices are good. But as you say Man Utd were poor. Palace just tired at the end.

    • Johnb 6 years ago

Tagged you in a pic on twitter so you can see they are genuine bets we are placing, did get lucky with the third goal though, coming so late but at 2-2 they did look like getting another

  8. 6 years ago

i backed united to win when they were 2-0 down i only got 11/2
when spurs went 2-0 down against juventus they were 40/1 i know theres a big difference in juventus and c palace but thats a massive difference in prices
    two for today short prices
    something lucky 11/8
    avocet 11/10

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

The reason is bookies wouldn’t be wanting piles more money on Man Utd having taken loads at the start.
With Juve’s defence so good they would have thought Spurs winning from 2-0 down to be highly unlikely.

You know your getting old when someone says Istabraq won his third Champion Hurdle 18 years ago but it brings back great memories, Istabraq a true racing great and was described as “the medoicre flat runner with royal blood who would rise to the status of a Superhero in the history of the British National Hunt”
He was so loved by racing fans that in the 2002 Champion Hurdle when he was pulled up after just the second hurdle he was given a standing ovation

    • Johnb 6 years ago
