A TIDY little each-way return yesterday with my only tip Coiste Bodhar finishing a close second at an SP of 10-1. I thought he was getting up at one point but we’ll take that and move on.
Wednesday brings jumps action from Catterick and Fontwell along with all-weather flat racing at Kempton and Lingfield.
I have two selections both of which are relatively short prices by my standards but I think they both have a great shout.
DE DOLLAR MAN is one I have had in my notebook for a couple of years. He looks to me like a staying chaser in the making and despite being reasonably handy over hurdles I think we are now all set to see him improve over fences.
Ideally I would like to see him over 3 miles but this 2.5 miles on heavy ground should be a solid test and although Verni is odds on and has solid credentials (2nd in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival last year) this is a different test entirely and I think De Dollar Man is the value bet.
CABERNET D’ALENE is my second selection for the day. He is a rapid improver for Nick Williams having won his last two races and although he has gone up 10lb in the handicap I think he should still have more to give.
This field is fairly average and the main danger might come from the Phillip Hobbs' horse Waiheke who makes his handicap debut. I am much happier backing my selection though because we know what he can do and we know he is in form.
- 2.20 Catterick – De Dollar Man (7-4, bet365, Paddy Power) – 3pt win
- 3.40 Fontwell – Cabernet D’Alene (5-2, betfair, Paddy Power ) – 3pt win
