HOSTS England opened the World Cup with a comfortable win over Fiji last night and today there's a four-match feast of action.

Six Nations winners Ireland are expected to make mincemeat of Canada and are 21-20 on the minus 42 points handicap with Betfair.

South Africa's clash with Japan is a similar David v Goliath battle – the Springboks -43 points are 21-20 at Betfair – while France have a tricky opener against Italy and the other game sees Tonga battle Georgia.

It's qualifying day for Formula One's Singapore Grand Prix and Lewis Hamilton is out to 5-6 at BetVictor to claim pole position after only managing fourth fastest in practice.

Other highlights on a packed Saturday of sport include Davis Cup tennis, Shanghai Masters snooker and top-class golf so let's hear your tips and thoughts and good luck with your bets.

The other bet I had shortlisted is in the game Arizona Cardinals at Chicago Bears and here I like Over 44.5 points at 5/6 Skybet

Impecable timing, poise in the pocket, and an laser of an arm. Three things that Johnny Manziel doesn’t have. Marcus Mariota had all eyes on him in week 1 when facing number 1 pick and 2013 Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston. Needless to say it was a tale of two sides. Mariotas second pass of the day was a 52 yard slant for a TD, while Winstons first pass was a 26 yard picksix. Mariota is only the third rookie ever to finish a game with a 158.3 quarterback rating in his debut, not a bad start for a QB who supposedly wasn’t ready for the NFL.

In week 2 Mariota will be facing another Heisman Trophy winner in Johnny Manziel (if McCown doesn’t pass the concussion protocol by Sunday). The lines opened up with Cleveland as a 3 point favourite but quickly went down to a pick em in hours and has hovered as Tennessee as the -1 favourites for a couple days. In week 1 the Browns made Ryan Fitzpaterick look like Joe Namath in a 31-10 win in New Jersey. Now, the Titans do not have a defense like the Jets, but they do have Dick Lebeau as their defensive head coach, which at aged 78 was a good pick up considering he has been a part of the NFL for the last 57 consecutive seasons (14 as a player, 43 as a coach). Not many who have that experience and are still going in the league.

Week 2 isn’t always necessarily a case the teams that sucked in week 1 will suck again the next week, but if you were offered to take Mariota or Manziel to win you a game, there’s not many who would pick Manziel. Mariota is a perfect fit for the NFL, maybe not physically, yet. But his mentality is second to none. If his career is set to be a long one in the NFL, bar a mental breakdown, I don’t think you will ever see a bad headline about him. Four TD’s in the first half on Sunday and barely even a fist pump to show for it. We can’t really take much on the Titans defense from week 1 as it was against a Mike Evans-less Tampa with a rookie QB, the Browns will no doubt be better at home, but its where their points are going to come from is where I’m asking questions. Free agent pick up Dwayne Bowe is questionable with a hamstring injury and his been limited in practice all week, and without a legitimate franchise QB (Manziel will never be at that stage) I wouldn’t fancy their chances to put up too many points. They also lost two Linebackers in week 1. Karlos Dansby didn’t practice yesterday with a foot injury and had 7 tackles on Sunday, with Scott Soloman suffering a high ankle sprain and is set to miss a few weeks. Titans Tight End Delanie Walker is questionable while dealing with sprained ligaments in his right wrist nd did not practice yesterday. That wouldn’t help my matters if he doesn’t start as he was the Titans most productive receiver last season and caught all 3 targets for 43 yards and a TD against Tampa in week 1.

    Tennessee Titans ML @ EVS @ 888 – 5 points

Added to this that Johnny Manziel will start for the Browns on Sunday. Titans now best @ 5/6 @PP

Wouldn’t be surprised if the spread is a field goal tomorrow.

    Giants o8.5 hits @ 1.9 *lost*

    Double 3.81 *lost*

Ado I put you off two winners last night, sorry about that.

Only 10 of the 26 teams went over on their hits last night so it wasn’t a great night for offense.

I’m at a wedding all day today, so nothing from me today. Good luck everyone though.

Those people who were counting Scotland out against SA, I hope they are watching this game right now. If I was Scottish, I would be more worried about them playing Japan. Like I have said in previous threads, SA is not functioning well at all as a unit.

What was the odds for japan to win ? What a.match that was amazing

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Taryn brown, I saw Japan at 70-1 with Paddy Power. Only put a tenner on it though!

  13. BigB 9 years ago

Taryn, not sure what the odds were before the game, but when SA kicked that penalty with 7 minutes to go, I took japan to win at 14/1 which I posted on the football thread by accident, so I would imagine its probably something more than 14/1 ?

As a lad born and bred in Hong Kong. I have to take my hat off to Japan. Even in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, they had a lot of foreigners playing in their national team through the residency rule. Watching the game today, the starting XV I think only had a handful, maybe 3/4 ? They will even have a team in the Super Rugby soon, its amazing how far they have come and I do hope Hong Kong will follow in the same direction!

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

BigB, can’t believe that result and I wonder what it means for Scotland who play them on Wednesday.
Rugby betting experts were tipping South Africa -41 points. That’s how a big a shock it was.

Well played Japan … biggest upset in international rugby history. Taking Nakaitaci ATTS for France 21/20. Just hope Michalak plays well to provide the service!

  16. BigB 9 years ago

MrF, did you seriously chuck a tenner on Japan before the game? You are one brave man, take a bow! I got 14/1 and I am still buzzing haha.

I was looking at the handicap before kick off and fancied it, but lost on the football so decided against taking it. Couldn’t help myself towards the end of the game though!

I think Scotland will win the game, they have played better rugby than SA coming into the world cup, and I have no doubt the Japanese boys will be aching for the next 2 days, regardless of how many hot and cold baths they take, which will probably have an impact on the time they spend on training and preparing for the Scots. This game should also serve as a wake up call for Scotland if they think Japan is going to be an easy game.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

BigB, of course I didn’t – I was joking. If I had I’d have said before the game.

    • BigB 9 years ago

Haha MrF, sorry! Very slow on the jokes over the internet haha

WasClueless, I thought you had it coming in after 10 minutes there! Unlucky fella, still got ages though!

BigB … gutted lol … bloody crowd alerting the ref again!!

  19. WasClueless 9 years ago

If he starts tomorrow fancy Savea to score a couple at 11/4 … for me best wing in the world and scored twice against Argentina in 2014

  20. BigB 9 years ago

I thought it looked dead cert from behind, but can’t argue with the front angle aha.

Italy usually tire in the 2nd half though, so it’s still looking good… might jump on him 1st try scorer myself

  21. BigB 9 years ago

I am liking Nehe tomorrow Wasclueless, what do you reckon? He has been in great form this season for Hurricanes, it takes something special to beat out Isreal Dagg in the all-black squad and his footwork is quite something. The fact that Mike Brown got 3 also have me hoping Nehe might get one or a few.

  22. WasClueless 9 years ago

BigB .. like the Nehe shout 10/11 is decent odds too … mind you Nonu at 6/5 looks value too !! too many quality players will have a think tomorrow!!

  23. BigB 9 years ago

Yeah, might just leave it and find better bets in the NFL WasClueless.

If anyone fancies betting on American Football, the Georgia Tech v Notre Dame may be worth keeping an eye on. Georgia Tech is 7 down against a Fighting Irish side that lost starting QB last week. ND is a good team with a strong defense, I don’t know much about Georgia Tech but a lot of people backed them to win the game before it started, so at 6/5, it might appeal to some, alternatively, Georgia Tech +2.5 is at EVENS.
