THE Rugby World Cup gets under way at Twickenham on Friday and hosts England have high hopes of repeating their 2007 success.

Stuart Lancaster's men – who face Fiji in the opening game – are second favourites at 9-2 with Skybet and William Hill to lift the coveted trophy.

Defending champs New Zealand top the betting at 6-4 with William Hill while there's tempting prices for recent winners South Africa at 13-2 with BetVictor and Australia at 8s with Coral and Betfair.

Ireland have back-to-back Six Nations titles under their belt and are 10-1 at BetBright who make Wales 40-1 shots and sorry Scotland 300-1.

On the sporting agenda today there's first-round action from the Shanghai Masters snooker plus Major League Baseball and WTA tennis among the highlights. Good luck with your bets and post your tips and thoughts here.

In week one of the Nfl season my NAP won which was Miami Dolphins -3.5 points,
They made hard work of it but won by 7 in the end & they will get better

In about an hours time the Philadelphia Eagles play Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome and this is where my NB of week one is,
I am expecting these two teams to score 60+ points between them so the odds on this tip is massive

Good stuff Johnb. Grimes got his first pick as I said too. Miami playing the Jags this week ;)

    Julio Jones is a monster!

  4. Jordan 9 years ago

Nick, didn’t pick him as leading receiver for nothing. Top 3 WR in the league in my opinion.

  5. Nick 9 years ago

Philly have been crap so far, dropping a few easy passes and crumbling under pressure!

  6. Jordan 9 years ago

DeMarco Murray being in the minus at almost HT is shocking. According to the bet trend site I follow. $5.2m went on the Falcons with only $1m on the Eagles.

  7. Nick 9 years ago

The Jones show at the moment haha

  8. Picksix 9 years ago

Hahaha Sanchez!! Sanchez!! Sanchez!!! Won’t be long till well be hearing that

  9. Jordan 9 years ago

Tyler we won’t be hearing it at all, there’s about 5 Eagles fans in the Georgia Dome :)

Nick, every Falcons game is the Julio show!

  10. Picksix 9 years ago

Ye mate lol we might have to wait til next week. Mark my word we will see a Sanchez chant this season haha

  11. Nick 9 years ago

Almost a role reversal after half time!

    MURRAY & JONES 9/4 WON

I didn’t fancy anything strongly in the later game, as I think the niners maybe better than advertised. Good luck with any bets you got on the game.

Even I threw a flag on that deep pass to Wallace. Bethea not even looking for the ball!

Gutted I missed the other Philly/Atlanta tips on yesterdays thread, the posts weren’t coming up on recent comments!

  15. Jordan 9 years ago

They won’t when a new thread is posted mate. Always best to hang around on the old thread as there aren’t as many comments as the football one mate.

Just woke up to see Bridgewater get picked off in the 4th quarter 17-3 down. Dream is over. Peterson looked rusty and Bridgewater was overthrowing all night. Not the finish to week 1 I would have liked but still coming out in profit. One positive out of this game is that I think we have a new contender for hottest cheerleaders. Black latex catsuits for the girls in Santa Clara ;)

Bridgewater gets sacked for the 5th time on 4th down with 3 minutes remaining. Game over 20-3. Safe to say I underestimated the Niners.

  18. BigB 9 years ago

Gaaaah, that one hurts. Chucked the biggest bet on the Vikings, woke up to find them getting battered by the 49ers. Made it worse when I considered taking the under but thought the Vikings may go off on one and turns out they got an almighty 3 points in the game haha.

    Better luck next time hopefully!

    Spain V Greece

    * Either team to win by 5 points or less (match winner 3 way) @ 31/20

Im not able to pick a winner in this game but I do know this will be very close and should come down to the wire. Spain have been very inconsistent this tournament and have been highly dependent on Pau Gasol. The Greeks have Won all their games but have played much weaker opposition than the Spanish and the only oppenent close to world class level they have come up against is Croatia who they narrowly beat by 2. Expecting a nervy performance from both and could possibly come down to the final play of the game

Cheers AD, got on Bondarenko which covered the Vikings losses thankfully, any fancies for later today?

This is my first tip on the site so here goes….

Rugby betting is infamous for poor, poor odds. I’ve had a look at a number of markets for the world cup and not a lot jumps out at me.

For an over evens bet i’d recommend Canada to finish bottom of Pool D at 11/10 (365). In a group with six nations winners Ireland, a strong looking France and a decent Italy the only other contenders to finish last would be Romania. While nowhere near a powerhouse the emerging eastern European team play a blend of tight, forward play that grinds out results. And recently lost only 21 – 16 to a decent Tonga side and beating fellow RWC qualifiers Namibia 43-3.

Canada however, should be whipping boys of this group. The last time the two sides met Canada were restricted to penalty kicks only and lost 18-9.

The game should be tight but I expect Romania to come out on top.

I’d be tempted to double this bet up with under the radar Scotland to qualify from Pool B at 4/6 (also with 365).

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Brummie, good to see rugby tips and I hope it’s popular during the World Cup.
I agree Scotland should qualify as they’ve improved – and I’ve seen tips for us to beat South Africa and win the group.

  27. Picksix 9 years ago

Unlucky with your vikings bets gents only caught the first half but looked liked loadholt and Sullivan were well missed from that line there didnt seem to be any protection for teddy at all

Would have took a brave man too back the 49ers though , Carlos Hyde 168 yards rushing …crazy

  28. Ernie 9 years ago

Mr F… Who are these people tipping Scotland to beat South Africa and win the group? They need their head examined! There is being Patriotic then being plain daft! I’ll be cheering us on as much as anyone but think it’l be tough even to get out of the group. Samoa will be confident of beating us don’t worry about that!

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Ernie, proper rugby tipsters who think Scotland will go well having impressed against France and Ireland.

  29. Jordan 9 years ago

Vikings are now down to two starters on their offensive line. One to consider in the coming weeks.

  30. Jordan 9 years ago

Tyler I had worries before the game, saw the blocked field goal for the 49ers and those worries went away, cue the 3 and out then the Vikings missed field goal, fear had set in once more hahaha, Bridgewater was overthrowing people all over the place. I know he’s comfortable doing it but I wouldn’t be able to throw with a glove on.

  31. BigB 9 years ago

Ernie, to be honest, I don’t think its that far fetched! SA looked poor in the Rugby Championship, the prime example would obviously be the mulling they got from the Pumas, but if you look further, NZ has McCow and Sam Cane as the out and out breakdown specialist, Australia has Pocock and Hooper, besides Francois Louw, I don’t think the top team will fear them breakdown wise. Obviously they have hard hitters in their team with the likes of Eben, Matfield and Burger there, but their backs looked average and lacking in understanding. You look at their backs, people will automatically point to Habana, but really, his form in Toulon looks above-average at a push and I wouldn’t say SA has a fly-half that has that x-factor.

  32. BigB 9 years ago

Scotland on the other hand, actually looked good in the games that I have seen them play. Finn Russell in particular, looked as settle as I have ever seen play. Dunbar is probably going to be a big miss but I think Matt Scott more than belongs at test level, and obivously, they have Stuart Hogg who many wil argue has that x-factor that can turn nothing into something.

I for one, is actually quite looking forward to see how Scotland will do in the world cup, they could surprise a few if they play to the level that they are capable of and execute on game day.

  33. BigB 9 years ago

Jordan, I can’t throw with or without a glove on haha

Although I don’t think he will ever throw without his gloves though. Just look back at his pro-day when he decided to throw without gloves, he slid all the way down and nearly out of the first round. I think he blamed throwing without gloves as part of the reason why he performed so badly in his pro-day!

    NFL – Sunday – 6:00PM

    Tennessee Titans ML @ EVS @ 888 – 5 points

Will add a bit more closer to the day. But short and sweet. Mariota vs Manziel. Mariota for me.

    Alternative spreads are calling

Tyler you’re right there mate. Saw it last night and thought it looked good. Now out to -1 mate.

  37. Brummie Barbarian 9 years ago

Not a chance will Scotland beat RSA Mr F. You deserve every penny you win if you’re brave enough to put you’re hard earned cash on that!

Will hopefully be posting some more tips throughout the RWC, but like I say odds tend to be beyond awful.

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Brummie Barbarian, it’s not my tip. Just pointing out I’ve seen Scotland tipped to win the group.

    • Sean Ireland 9 years ago

Was the guy thats tipped Scotland to win the group the same guy that told you Scotland would qualify ahead of the Rep of Ireland in the Euro qualifiers Mr F??? :)

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Sean, nope – I just read it.
Anyway he’s going to be correct with Scotland finishing above Ireland – is he not?

  38. mattr 9 years ago

Not being funny guys but Fiji +26 at evens could well be the steal of the week. First games in these international tournaments notoriously hard and Fiji no mugs. 9th in World Rankings, above Scotland, Argentina etc.

I’m not a huge rugby fan but living in Wales can’t get away from it and know and have heard enough talk to be into this for 5 points at least.

Good luck if you fancy it.

Atlanta Falcons Over 1.5 TDs – Sunday 6:00PM
Cincinnati Bengals Over 1.5 TDs – Sunday 6:00PM
Green Bay Packers Over 2.5 TDs – Monday 1:30AM

    Just under 7/5 @ 365 (1.16/1) – 2 points

Sorry Tyler, and my good man honda if you’re looking in, but I feel payback is coming for that NFC Championship game, especially without Chancellor.

    Props on the radar are;

    Matt Ryan Passing Yards
    Julio Jones Receiving Yards
Marshawn Lynch Rushing Yards (Despite Packers scoring 3 TD’s)
Chris Ivory Rushing Yards – Tuesday – 1:30AM

Will have write ups closer to the day but I’ve had a look over pass, rush and receiving yards given up over the weekend and feel these could be good match ups.
