LAST night I posted World Cup previews on the European and South American games and picked some sides I fancied.
There have been plenty of comments tipping different teams and now comes the hard part – whittling them down to a treble, single and also both teams to score treble.
For the top treble sides in my thoughts included Italy (v Czech Rep), Bulgaria (at Malta), Argentina (at Paraguay) and Russia v Israel. All are pretty short except Argentina which doesn't kick until 2.40am so it would be a long wait if my first two came in.
After much debate I've decided to recommend all four teams. So if you want to do the treble go for Italy, Bulgaria and Russia but that pays just 2-1 with Titanbet.
As I fancy Argentina and don't mind the wait I'm adding them for a fourfold that pays 4-1 at Titanbet. For teams news and reasoning on this one see the South American preview.
In that piece I tipped Messi to score first at 4-1 with Ladbrokes and he's also worth backing at 4-5 with bet365 to net at anytime.
Italy played Bulgaria on Friday and as I said it was Buffon v Bulgaria with the veteran keeper playing a blinder. That display by Bulgaria tempts me to back them at 2-5 with Titanbet away to a Maltese side they beat 6-0 at home.
Bulgaria sit second behind Italy in Group B and this is a must-win game with Armenia, Denmark and Czech Republic all one point behind.
Italy, 7-20 at Titanbet, have won 14 of their last 15 competitive home games so should care of a Czech side beaten at home to Armenia last week. The Italians are boosted by the return of Pablo Osvaldo and Riccardo Montolivo after bans and with Buffon back at his best they should also keep a clean sheet.
Fabio Capello's Russia bounced back from their shock defeat in Northern Ireland to beat Luxembourg 4-1 and can go top of Group F ahead of Portugal if they beat Israel in St Petersburg.
The Russians face a side whose hopes were hit badly by a home draw with Azerbaijan on Saturday and if they stop giving away silly goals should be straightforward for the Russians who won the meeting 4-0 away.
My Super Single shortlist included Iceland (v Albania), Romania (v Turkey), Slovenia (at Cyprus) and Luxembourg double chance (v Northern Ireland). The Luxembourg was my choice in today's Daily Record at 1-1 with boylesports but it's been tipped in other places and the evens has disappeared.
I ruled out Romania after a few comments about how Turkey's new boss Fatih Terim – who is staying in charge of Galatasaray – had made an immediate effect in his bid to rescue their campaign.
Cyprus is a tough place to go so although I reckon Slovenia will win maybe they should be bigger than evens.
So I'm left with Iceland, a nation on the up and with some outstanding players. They must have been buoyed by the way they recovered from 4-1 down to draw with Switzerland and have scored in five of their last six outings.
Albania can be tough opponents and beat Norway 1-0 away but Iceland won in Tirana so will be confident of completing the double.

Allan, both those games were at Windsor Park and that’s the big difference. Also Portugal were down to 10 before the Irish went down to 10. Ireland’s last away game was a 0-0 draw in Malta who’d struggle to beat my boy’s team. I can understand why people would fancy the Irish but I’m looking at a lot of factors including the fact Luxembourg drew in Belfast and have drawn three of their last four. I’m not writing off the Irish but I wouldn’t want to be on them at just over evens. Give me 2-1 and I might be tempted.

Messi to score anytime looks like a great bet at 4/5 and Gomez to score anytime and Germany to win at 4/6, (both with bet365) should deliver a nice little double.
I think the Irish Republic will draw with Austria and Macedonia will beat our Scottish cousins.

Fingers crossed William; I think it will be tight, but fancy 2-1 to NI, around 8-1 with most bookmakers, or hedge at 1-1 at 5-1 or 0-1 at 11-2.
With a pound on each, if one comes in, you will in the worst case, double your stake; (5-1 returns 6 quid with three quid stake)
Incidentally Paul, meant to mention this before; if two teams are fancied to be a tight match, surely this sort of hedging is a decent and sensible option?

Yeah Paul, but if you fancy a team to win, but think it will be close, then with those three correct scores, you are a bit safer and still getting even dough, the same as just backing them in the case of NI tonight.
Sometimes it is worthwhile, sometimes not; in this case, it just gives the punter a better chance of getting even money even if it is a 1-1 draw.
It’s all about beating the bookie!
ps, Messi to score is getting to me at 4-5, I really think I will lump on if I make a few quid tonight.
coops, as long as you’re aware hedging that way guarantees you nothing but increases the stakes. It’s not one I’d do to be honest. However, I’m on Messi first and anytime.

not necessarily. If you fancy in this case a tenner on NI at evens, (which I know you don’t, but go with me), then you can make a tenner profit.
If you think they will win, then if you do one each, two one and one nil, with a tenner on each, or multiples of the tenner stake, ie 4 quid on one each, (the smaller odds) and three quid each on the two longer odds, then you cover the bet and in the worst case you will get double the tenner you have put on, even if your team draws one each.
That way you still get even money, (for the same stake) but give yourself three more chances to beat the bookie.
Of course, if they win five nil, then fair enough, but when it is fancied to be a tight match, it gives some protection.
coops, you can cover the bet to an extent but not fully and that’s what concerns me. What it it’s 3-0 or 3-1?

I am not saying it is ‘completely’ covered. My point is only when you think a team will win and think it is a close call, perhaps giving three options including a one each score-line provides the same odds and some security to the punter, which is a little advantage to us rather than the bookie.
Rather than lose out on a one each draw, the three or even four options cover off the odds and provide a better chance for the punter.
If you fancy a team to win three or four goals, then it is a different matter altogether obviously; this is ONLY when a punter is not 100% on a team winning, but fairly sure they will scrape through.
Now in this match in Luxembourg, I have insurance if Luxembourg score, and also if we go on to score a winner at two one as well thereafter.

Huge game ahead tonight for England, and I think most England fans will settle for a draw it wont be easy. The last two times we played Ukraine it finished 0-1 at the Euros and 1-1 in the reverse fixture.

Hi guys -possible in-play opportunity. Bolivia are 0-0 with ecuador at half time and the first half stats are 2 shots on and 12 off for them compared to 4 on and off for ecuador. The head to head is gruesome reading for the home side having lost last 6 as they don’t have their normal advantage as ecuador also play at altitude at home but Bolivia look big at 5.50

USA might seems risky but this Mexican team have been pretty bad all summer, whilst USA on their day are a great team. They did lose in Costa Rica but then they never win in Costa Rica for some reason.
Cammy, tough to call USA v Mexico and remember there will be a massive support for the Mexicans. USA without two of their best players in Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley but Mexico were poor in their shock defeat to Honduras last week. I’m not touching it.
Mr I think Altidore will be a big miss perhaps but there is always Mr America himself Landon Donovan. It should be a good game I hope.
