Here is McBookie's Damian Walker with his thoughts for this weekend.
Damian writes: “I am starting this week’s column in League One and taking on Dumbarton. The Sons were one of the pre-season favourites for the title but reading the fans’ forums they’ll probably settle for maintaining their League One status such is their terrible form.
“Last weekend they played Airdrie with a squad of just 14 players and they all got a game including the reserve goalkeeper. Airdrie ran out easy 3-0 winners and by all accounts the Diamonds were nowhere near their best, yet still strolled it.
“Dumbarton have been ravaged by injuries and with limited funds at his disposal Jim Duffy is probably facing his toughest job in management to date. They sit just one place and two points off bottom in the league and it is hard to understand why they should be 21-20 to beat Brechin this weekend.
“Bookies are probably just looking at Brechin’s last two results against Championship opposition in the Cup and runaway league leaders Arbroath. They might be better judged on a 4-0 win over Forfar three weeks ago and they also beat Dumbarton 3-2 in the corresponding fixture at the end of August.
“Odds of 12-5 look extremely generous about the Hedgemen and I will also be backing them on the handicaps. Striker Andy Jackson has been banging in the goals of late for Brechin and has netted seven times from his last 11 games.
“Jackson has a 37 per cent goals-to-games ratio during his time at Brechin and I expect him to get plenty of chances on Saturday. McBookie make him 11-2 to open the scoring and pile more pressure on Dumbarton.
“In the Premiership I thought Motherwell would be favourites to win at Livingston following their 3-0 win over Aberdeen. They have won three of their last four and lost the other game 7-1 to Rangers having had a man sent off after half an hour.
“That result can probably be excused and had the game not been played on the plastic I would be even more confident about a Motherwell win but I still can’t have Livi as favourites.
“Well’s 19-year-old midfielder David Turnbull has been a big part of the revival of late and has scored three goals in his last four games. Turnbull can be backed at a massive 12-1 with McBookie to continue his great run with the first goal of the game.
“Finally in League Two there is just no way Berwick Rangers should be 9-1 to win at Clyde. Berwick have won two of their last three games and last weekend lost out narrowly to East Fife of League One in the Cup and the match reports suggested Berwick had plenty of chances late on to take the game to a replay.
“And it is not as if Clyde have been putting in the sort of performances of late to make them 1-3 shots. Since October they have lost to Cowdenbeath, Queen's Park and Peterhead, drawn with Stirling and had wins over Elgin and Edinburgh.
“So odds of 1-3 about a side who have won just two of their last six games seems incredibly short. Sure they are a lot more likely to win than Berwick but at odds of 9-1 I just have to be with the away side.
“Berwick midfielder Paul Willis has been the man for goals recently and has scored five times from his last six games.
“And with his side huge odds for the win, Willis can be backed at 9-1 with McBookie to open the scoring.”
Can you find a winner!”
- Jackson (Brechin) 11-2
- Turnbull (Motherwell) 12-1
- Willis (Beriwck) 9-1
