LAST week five of the 10 on my shortlist were triumphant – and of course I plumped for Livingston who came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Cowdenbeath.

Out of the other five put up four drew and the only loser was Brentford and I'd have knocked them off anyway after losing boss Uwe Rosler to Wigan on the eve of their FA Cup clash at Carlisle.

So it was interesting exercise and I've got another 10 on this Saturday's shortlist that I'll whittle down.

They are DERBY at Charlton, PETERBOROUGH at Gillingham, NEWCASTLE v Southampton, HUDDERSFIELD v Reading, SHEFF UTD v Swindon, SOUTHEND at Torquay, SCUNTHORPE at Wycombe, INVERNESS at Hearts and FALKIRK at QoS.

It looks tricky card and the Super Single may or not come from of those 10. I'd be particularly interested to hear from fans of those sides who agree or disagree with my selections.

My 12 homes on the shortlist are Everton, Man City, Newcastle, Huddersfield, Carlisle, Sheff Utd, Kidderminster, Aberdeen, Alloa, Dundee, Stranraer and Peterhead.

And my six aways are Derby, Peterborough, Southend, Scunthorpe, Inverness and Dundee Utd.

Leap-frogging the midweek games I had already placed some bets for Saturday, and am on five of your aways.
In League One I prefered Preston to win at Crawley over Peterborough at Gillingham.

Dundee utd are a diabolical price Paul. Yes in good form but I was at the cup game vs killie and 5 2 flattered them and think by all accounts 4 1 vs jambos was a bit unfair also. I’m a huge fan of what’s going on at tannadice but I don’t think anyone should be odds on away from home in the spl except celtic.

Sparky, I know what you’re saying and best bet could be something like over 3.5 goals.

I was impressed with killie at tannadice and really regret not backing them in Dingwall where by all accounts 5 1 would of been a more accurate scoreline. Think your right about goals angle as any score here seems a possibility with both teams very leaky at the back!

Like the look of aberdeen but would have hoped for bigger than 4/6 also think stranraer look a fair price vs a brechin team who must be down after cup exit.

I wouldn’t want to put anyone off backing Falkirk but it’s our home form (9 wins from last 13) that is keeping us going. Falkirk haven’t had an away win since August. In those 6 away games since, we have only found the net twice (all 6 games being u2.5). QoS have had their past 4 home league games finish under 2.5 as well so I will be having a nibble on the 11/10 for unders in this game.

A Liverpool side minus captain marvel must be on dodgy ground at spurs? What you think Paul? Liverpool look a much different side away from anfield and spurs look to be turning a corner 6/4 looks a fair bet for a single. I can’t forget how bad pool were at hull recently!

Leeds have a great record at the keepmoat and are well worth a look @ 6/5 , especially if McCormack is on form.

    Leeds
    Peterborough
    Derby

    Away treble: 17/2

im a torquay fan who now lives in Sheffield and from what the blades fans are saying I’d cross them off your list right away!
as for the mighty gulls, our luck has to change soon, but will it against Southend who seem to be extremely well run by Phil Brown? This weekend will be in front of a sombre tiny crowd and most, as well as the bookies, will be expecting an away win, but I’ve got a real feeling that we will surprise the away side and pick up at least a point. some decent loanees on the attacking side, together with a slightly more full strength defence will hopefully see us tighten up. last two games v Southend were I believe four goal victories for the Essex men? who knows, who cares? I do so I’ve gotta keep the faith!

I have just got 19/20 on inverness for sat. Best price availible, hearts r down to 12 players. My single for sat. My season on singles is 69% so dont mind taking a price a shade under evens. I have discovered singles and doubles makes u more money in the long run. Its a marathon not a sprint, i learned ditch the accs and stick to singles.

Nice to see you sticking with Derby, you know it makes sense. ( i see us winning every game up until we play leicester in january ). I can’t believe they have drifted from 6/5 with bet365 to 5/4 !!! are they mental? for as long as 3 weeks back, we had the best away record and the highest scorers in the league. To add to that, of all english teams, over the last 5 games, we now have the best record in the top 5 divisions. We’re 5 points from the top, and odds for winning the title have nosedived from 66/1 to 10/1. To be promoted from 8/1 to 3/1 and to reach the playoffs from 8/1 to 11/8. Derby fans are thrilled that we have drawn Chelski at home in the FA cup because we now have a chance to showcase our game to the rest of the country on BT sport and we have a realistic chance of beating them. Our football is terrific to watch… dare I say it very barcelona . Not felt like this for a while, the way we are playing, I feel we are playing better football than any team in the league. At the weekend theres Leicester vs Burnley ( tough call and a draw would play into derby’s hands ), and QPR away to a wounded Blackpool who once again have players banned. Blackpool had a flat back 4 with 2x central defensive midfielders sitting in front and we ran them ragged for 87 mins. QPR i suspect will beat them, but blackpool will have to improve drastically to get anything out of the game, that includes their discipline. A draw in this game would/could see Derby just 3 points from the top should we win. But right now, I cannot see any other result other than a derby win. I’m very tempted to go for the 3/1 offered by bet365 on the -1 handicap.. 20 goals away from home, 20 at home and a +14 goal difference. I don’t think anybody in the league wants to play us right now. COYR !!!!

and one other thing, when i posted my tip for derby to win @-1 last week against blackpool, I distinctly remembered saying that sooner or later, somebody is going to be on the receiving end of a damn good thumping. I guess blackpool got it.

As previously mentioned a tricky card and only 6 teams at evens or above appeal:

    Cardiff City
    Newcastle
    Stoke
    Leeds
    Reading
    ICT

Newcastle looks a good bet if you are looking at form of both teams. Agreed they blow hot and cold but they are the number 1 form team in the prem at the mo.

i really fancy man citeh to turn arsenal over Saturday lunchtime, not much rest time for arsenal plus they have played some very tough games lately using a lot of energy with mostly their full strength team. citeh put out a reserve side Tuesday so will be well rested and are invincible at the ettihad

    • Avatar of simon

city’s “reserves” are better than most clubs’ first teams. 4/5 seems a little short.

    Super singles shortlist

DERBY away to charlton, form team in championship having won last 5 losing only once in last 10 that was away to qpr.Have best away record in champonship whilst charlton who have won only one in last 6 and that was at home to a very poor doncaster who sit 1 place above them 5th from bottom, charlton have 2nd worst home record winning only twice in 9 homes. ODDS of 13/10 look very appealing,i expect to see Mr F announcing DERBY as his super single saturday.

    SOUTHEND at torquay
Again southend are the form team in lg 2 having won 6 of last 7 games all comps drawing 1 other, torquay have lost 4 of last 5 games all comps and have lg 2’s worst home record of 1 win from 9 homes,SOUTHEND available at evens at time of writing.

Considering adding a team a little short of evens at 4/5 for a treble DUNDEE UTD away to Kilmarnock,i see they met about 2 weeks ago in the scottish cup Dundee utd thumping them 5-2 at home,i like the odds on offer in this perhaps Mr F or others can enlighten me as to wether we can expect many changes in teams that met in the cup as im surprised at the high odds for a Dundee Utd win. thanks. Dundee utd and over 2.5 goals looks very good at 7/4,overs came up in 5 of last 6 meetings.

Also like the look of the odds on Man city to win and over 2.5 goals @ 6/4 or Man city and BTTS at a huge 21/10 at home to Arsenal Sat 12.45pm, we all know citys goals scoring exploits at the etihad scoring 29 goals from 7 games and i expect them to continue that winning run and make it 8 wins from 8 homes but i expect Arsenal to get a goal as they have a very impressive record of scoring in every league match but 1 in last 20 premier league games that came in the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford, stats are pointing to a man, city win and BTTS/over 2.5 goals at 21/10 and 6/4 respectivly.
Could set up a nice pot for the remaing games afterwards. :)

QPR QPR QPQ. 23TO 20. Got to be be the best bet this wkend against a team that has 5 players out with red cards. If they dont win then they will not go up.

    Fancy Derby. Great form
Could see Newcatle game being a draw. They struggle against teams they need to break down; much better sitting in and playing on counter.
Quite fancy Norwich at 9/5. They’ve good home form of late, good win last week and, Newcastle game apart, Swansea poor of late.
Price is poor on Dundee Utd win, so will take them to win and both to score, which would have paid our on their last three games. Think that’s about 3/1

I would be wary of putting Newcastle up against Southampton. We (Newcastle) have pulled off some fantastic results recently, but much like the season before last, we’ve been lucky or certain players have the game of their season (like Krul at Spurs).

I’m not doing my team down, I’m made up with them, but the way we set up suits some teams more than others. Swansea tore us to shreds a couple of weeks back. We seem to do better against teams under pressure that need a result, and I don’t think a tight and patient Southampton side is a side we’ll get much out of. I hope we do, but I wouldn’t put money on this one myself.
