THE darts tips went well yesterday so well done to everyone who contributed, especially Johnb who is more than a one-trick pony.

It's another big day of sport with rugby, tennis, cricket, snooker, golf and US sports later on. I backed Ace Venturer's Lee Westwood and Tommy Fleetwood tips and when I last checked both were challenging.

World Snooker continues with semi-final action – Ronnie O'Sullivan v Barry Hawkins and Mark Selby v Neil Robertson – from The Crucible.

In rugby the big game is Leeds v Wigan on Sky Sports 1 at 8pm and I'll sure we see some discussion on that one.

As usual put up your sports tips and chat here.

    You got work tonight Rusty?

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

      I’ll be around honda

    • honda 10 years ago

      Slacker ;)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, I don’t follow, why did you ask and what are you trying to get at? ;)

  4. honda 10 years ago

Haha, dunno really, just asking :) I have noted all your picks, when cardinals -1.5 prices go up will you also be adding that?

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Probably will honda. I have another on mind.

honda, would you happen to know any programmers to help me build a complex sports betting database? :)

    • honda 10 years ago

      Rusty, I do not :)

  5. Jaseos 10 years ago

Rusty – That indeed is 3 mismatched games. It is difficult to see anything but wins. Three decent teams with their Aces on the mound against 3 teams with less than 10 wins each this season… that money printing machine is cranking up!

Seattle w/Hernandez -1.5, does appear to be a dead cert and would be my #1 choice for the day.

The other 2 picks Cards and San Diego are both opposing former Reds so I have a bit of insight. Firstly, Travis Wood. I was really annoyed when the Reds traded him for an outfielder who barely reached the majors (Dave Sappelt I think??). He is a good lefty-pitcher with good command and not a bad bat either… However, the Cubs stink and Wainwright is a machine. Cards win -1.5 for sure.

Arroyo against SD is interesting. I was always conflicted with how I felt about him during his years in a Reds uniform. His velocity barely touches 90 so if his command is off, or he isn’t quite right, he will get lit-up for double digits. Right now he is not right (back issues I think) so opposing Cashner can only result in one outcome. But… he is a fly-ball pitcher and San Diego is a pitcher’s paradise with acres in the outfield. He might (just might) get through 6/7 innings with only a couple of ERs. Most likely not though.

I hope that helps a little.

  6. Jaseos 10 years ago

Wow. Just noticed you put an upset of the day up Rusty. When I read it I assumed it was for the Indians to win but I checked and there it is CHW @2.27 ML.

I really don’t get this. Danks is miles better than his counterpart, Salazar this year. He has a good record over the years pitching in Cleveland, against the Tribe and the White Sox lineup can really punish poor pitching – Abreu, Dunn, Flowers, Ramirez, Viciedo.

What do you think of the set up and staking of today’s bets?

    SEA, w/Hernandez -1.5 @1.90 (30%)
    STL w/Wainwright -1.5 guessing around @2.00 (25%)
    SD w/Cashner -1.5 @2.45 (25%)
    CHW w/Danks ML @2.25 (20%)

I might even sneak them all in as a small stakes Yankee too.

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, glad you agree the bookies got that one wrong and we shall take advantage of it.

What I think of the set up? I think we’re in for a grand night of baseball. :)

  7. Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, it’s one of those nights that beg for deep run lines in a yankee. I’m still waiting on odds, but I’ll be pushing it to around 2/1 for a small stakes yankee bet. White Sox would only require -1.5 to reach it. I made around 400 from a total of 11 stake from a yankee just a few weeks ago. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, MLB is the BEST market to play yankee bets. Much more likely than picking upsets and draws in football, the investment cost is low and profit very high. :)

  8. Rustychest 10 years ago

Some Cubs fans seem to think Wainwright is overrated. Hopefully he reads them for an extra motivational boost to an already master class pitcher :)

  9. tomh 10 years ago

Rusty & everyone else I am getting on these tips however I really know nothing about Baseball, I do however feel that I know a little about Basketball and my tips for tonight are below:

    Rockets @ Blazers Over +213.5
    Spurs @ Mavericks Over +198.5

  10. honda 10 years ago

Rusty odds are up for the Cardinals, if you would be a good man and do a final summary of your selections, that would be wonderful ;)

  11. tomh 10 years ago

How do I get a picture on here Honda?

  12. burt 10 years ago

Nothing from chief yet, cmon son give Burt a tip !

    • honda 10 years ago

Burt son, he put up a write up on the Wigan v St Helens match.

Its on yesterdays thread for the darts n such.

Wigan on the +6 handicap at 4/5
Wigan on the just win (can’t remember odds)
      Also Wigan over 3.5 tries at 11/10, think it’s 6/5 on bet365

  13. honda 10 years ago

    gravatar.com friend

  14. honda 10 years ago

That was supposed to say Wigan v Leeds :)

  15. burt 10 years ago

Cheers Honda son I will go have a look and bet accordingly :)

  16. Rustychest 10 years ago

Senor Honda, el bets are finalized.

    Played these:
    STL Cardinals -2.5 @ 33/20
    SD Padres -2.5 @ 5/2
    CHI White Sox -1.5 @ 41/20
    SEA Mariners -2.5 @ 6/4

as the higher stake yankee and a low stakes on the following ‘deeper’ lines to bring them all over 2/1:
    SD Padres -2.5 @ 5/2
    CHI White Sox -1.5 @ 41/20
    SEA Mariners -3.5 @ 12/5
    STL Cardinals -3.5 @ 53/20

Good luck, hopefully buddha blesses my plays today :)

    • honda 10 years ago

So do you want me to use the top 4 selections as your final ones? Rather than the -1.5 RL for around evens?

Or should I use the ones at the top of the page?

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, I trust -1.5 RL for all, but just replace Cardinals on the ML for Cardinals on the RL as a single. ;)

  17. burt 10 years ago

Would asking for a scorer be being cheeky? Don’t wanna pull on ya pisser son, just like to tell the boys down the pub what to bet on. They buy me a pint if they score ;)

  18. Rustychest 10 years ago

hahahaha… my picks have been stolen again… checking yesterday’s results for paid picks and there they are. Funny thing is, I have one really good night, they steal the next, the next goes 50/50-ish so they skip the next and that next one goes well.. you get it. Sup thieves :)

  19. honda 10 years ago

So I shall use these as 4 singles?

    SD Padres /w Cashner -1.5 RL (29/20)
CHI White Sox /w Danks ML (5/4)
    STL Cardinals /w Wainwright -1.5 (20/21)

    5* Delicious Double:
    SEA Mariners /w Hernandez -1.5 RL (5/6)
STL Cardinals /w Wainwright ML (100/163)
    Pays 2/1

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, yes, that’s it. I played them all as singles though worth noting. I played Padres -1.5, White Sox ML, Mariners -1.5 and Cardinals -1.5 all as singles and then the double you mentioned as well as the yankees above. Cheers :)

  20. Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, don’t worry too much about ordering picks into the point system. They’re all going to win anyway. ;)

  21. honda 10 years ago

Haha ok Rusty best of luck :)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, it’s just that you make it sound so complicated that even I’m confused haha. Play everything as a single and be done with it mate :P

  22. honda 10 years ago

Haha you start the confusion Rusty I just worsen it :) Anyway my bets are placed so best of luck :)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

We’re all confused, even Mr. F I’m sure :) I think he throws darts at the screen when we talk like this :D

  23. thechief 10 years ago

This is what I posted last night, didn’t think Mr F would have time to put up a new thread, so the odds may have changed slightly but not by a lot, if at all.

Leeds v Wigan sky sports KO 8pm

This is a clash of the titans between super league leaders Leeds facing reigning champions Wigan. Leeds are the odds on favourites at 4/7. Wigan are getting 6pts start on the handicap 4/5 at Betfred.

Leeds have won 3 out the last five against Wigan, and are unbeaten at home this season. Rob Burrow will miss this game for the Rhino’s. Wigan head into the game unbeaten in five games but with injuries to Josh Charnely, Iain Thornley, Ben Flower and Eddy Pettybourne

On Good Friday I took Wigan to end St Helens unbeaten start to the season, and I will be doing the same here. Leeds are really tough to score against and their back line is the best in super league. Wigan just win big games that is what they do, yes they have injuries but it is a case of next man up. They beat the Rhinos in last years playoffs and I think the value lies with the Warriors tonight on the handicap and to win straight up at 8/5 Unibet.

I think this could be deja vu, as I like the same bets as I did when Wigan beat Saints on Good Friday. Wigan even without try machine Josh Charnley still have their main creative players in the middle of the park to create scoring opportunities. Over 3.5 tries is 11/10 Paddy Power.

WIGAN +6 TO BEAT LEEDS 4/5
    WIGAN TO BEAT LEEDS 8/5
    WIGAN O3.5 TRIES 11/10

Good luck if your having a bet

  24. thechief 10 years ago

Cheers Honda for reposting mate :-)

Burt those are my main bets, I have took Matty Bowen at 7/4 Ladbrokes as an anytime scorer, as I always stick with same few players and his running ability and link up play always makes him a likely scorer. That’s who im on anyway. Good luck

check in later guys once team news is out

  25. Smiler 10 years ago

The chief, do you reckon there will be many tries in the match am gonna go with your wigan over 3.5 good luck buddy

  26. honda 10 years ago

No problem Chief, you give a great service to us all and my bank ;)

  27. Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, raaljaca, thechief, Greg Browning, Alex among others are true assets to this website. I love you all dearly :)

  28. raaljaca 10 years ago

And we love you Rusty ;)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Raal :), honda has had enough of my complicated US Sports selections.

      I do apologize honda.

    • honda 10 years ago

Much love Rusty :) And no need to apologize :)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, expect even more apologies tonight as I continue to drink and get emotional. Popcorn, pints and US sports.. it’s the only way.

    • honda 10 years ago

You mean your not yet emotional ;)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, I wouldn’t trust anybody who doesn’t get emotional. ;)

  29. Tomh 10 years ago

Rusty did you see my NBA tips above, how do you think they look? Cheers mate and thanks Honda for earlier, I will get around to updating a pick really soon I hope.

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Tomh, steering clear of NBA tonight. However, the Spurs game looks more like under than over. I’ll be watching NBA tonight but not playing it ;)

  30. Tomh 10 years ago

Appreciate the advice Rusty might just have to lump some more in your tips then ;-)

  31. Jaseos 10 years ago

I’m having a bit of that high states yankee Rusty. I think it stands a great chance of getting at least 2 of those in. All 4 and we are quids in!

  32. Trucker 10 years ago

Long time lurker and follower of Mr F, have only posted occasionally but I felt I had to compliment this thread. Not only do I profit from the great tips and write-ups, but this is HIGHLY entertaining!!!

It’s like a cartoon strip and you know all the characters and wonder who’ll say what next :-) I actually feel like I know you all!

Or am I just sad and have too much time in laybys with nothing to do!! Hahaha :D

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Trucker, just finished my Record columns and hopefully the likes of Athletic do the biz tonight. You’re not the first to make that sort of comment – there certainly are characters.

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Mr. F, I think he was making a positive comment.

Trucker, thank you so much. I felt all warm and fuzzy inside when I read your sentiments. My night is made, I don’t care if my picks lose now and honda goes broke. :)

    • honda 10 years ago

Haha why how nice of you :)

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Rustychest, re Trucker – I know he was.

  33. Rustychest 10 years ago

Also Mr. F, if ‘Athletic’ truly does the business tonight then your selections will lose, no? As doing the business would mean they win and most likely get a clean sheet with it = no btts for you ;)

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Rustychest, not true. In our country doing the business means winning – nothing else.

  34. Trucker 10 years ago

Rusty I love how you always seem to be up! And you can still spell and make sense at 4:45am while enjoying too much booze…..love it :)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Trucker :), I’m a cybernetic organism. Living tissue over a metal endoskeleton.

    • honda 10 years ago

He’s from Australia really ;) Your picks better win tonight sir otherwise I’m riding the pedal bike from my 10th birthday to work :)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

honda, my picks are guaranteed. Meaning if they don’t win, you get tomorrow’s picks for FREE. :)

    • honda 10 years ago

Kendog he always plays deep regardless :) Also Rusty, that makes me feel better when riding uphill to work in the cold morning wind on a bike I have outgrown twofold, certainly does ;)

  35. thechief 10 years ago

Smiler, I think Wigan will go Over, the last two meetings at Leeds read 16-20, 18-14 so they are usually tight games. Total tries in the match is set at 8 and that may be one too many. Good luck mate

  36. thechief 10 years ago

Sean O’Loughlin is out and that is a huge blow to Wigan. They are slightly on the drift. I think they will stay within the handicap, but it tougher to win but my bets are already placed. Hopefully they still get the job, had smaller stakes on the outright, so hoping to still get some winners out of the game.

Bowen starts if anyone was on him

  37. andyw 10 years ago

Thechief Im on leeds fh points over 10.5 4/5. I just think o loughlin missing makes it even better value. Whats your thoughts on it

  38. Trucker 10 years ago

And stuff might need to fall off the back my lorry to pay the rent too ;)

  39. thechief 10 years ago

Andy looks decent mate, O’Loughlin is a big miss, but Leeds without Burrow means they have to shift Sinfield and play Abblet at stand off. It will be interesting to see who adapts better.

Good luck and enjoy the game :)

  40. Kendog 10 years ago

Rustys playin deep Honda you have nothing to worry about :)

  41. andyw 10 years ago

Cheers chief, good start for it. Hoping for good another then quitr happy for wigan to come good for you guys. Cant beat good game of super league on a friday night

  42. Rustychest 10 years ago

You hear the commentator? Wainwright is 6 – 0 on this field. Keep Calm and Believe in the pitcher. :)

    • Jaseos 10 years ago

Wainwright does not have his best stuff tonight. If the Cubbies are hitting him, he must be off!

  43. Trucker 10 years ago

Paul I don’t know if it’s a Scottish thing or not, but quite a few times I’ve read people reply to you thinking you were abrupt, negative, aggressive or whatever, and it was misunderstood.
I can just see you swearing and tearing yer hair out :)

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Trucker, to be fair it’s probably just a language barrier but I’m sure I said nothing out of order to you.

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Trucker, I see Mr. F as the father figure I never had ;) I’m sure he loves me as much as he hates how hyper I go on his threads. I hope so anyway. I mean no harm :)

  44. Jaseos 10 years ago

An interesting game in Pittsburgh tonight with the Pirates sending out Cole (one of their best pitcher) and the Toronto Jays with Morrow.

Now this totally passed me by, but Morrow’s last start he lasted 2.2 innings and allowed 0 hits. “Great” you say, but no… He walked 8 (yes 8) and took 4 earned runs!!!

The question is; “Are Pittsburgh good enough to do damage if he is off again?” ML @1.70 or a generous 2.55 for -1.5.

    Any thoughts??

  45. Trucker 10 years ago

Oh you haven’t, it was just an observation. Rusty thought you were negative about my comment, but really he’s overdone the fosters :)

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Trucker, not only is there language barrier, but text is easily misunderstood thus I was making sure :)

  46. Trucker 10 years ago

And I’m Scottish mr f so certainly wasn’t having a go. Or too you rusty.
This is what I mean paul, now I’m coming across the same!! :)

  47. Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, I don’t know about Pirates, but what’s up with Wainwright?!

  48. Jaseos 10 years ago

Rusty, I just replied to one of your comments – He is not on it. Rarely does he have an outing like this. We are requiring a great Cardinal comeback!

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, it looked almost intentional in the 3rd. An extreme rarity. What’s up his a!?

  49. andyw 10 years ago

Wigan to be ahead ht 5/2. Likely to happen as I need a point

  50. Rustychest 10 years ago

Giving up as many runs as he has his whole career here. I hope an off day hasn’t found us…

  51. Jaseos 10 years ago

The others will definitely win. If I am honest Rusty, this is the bet I thought there could be an upset on, just because I know Wood can be a good pitcher – very underrated. Saying that, Wainwright is much better and I never saw this performance coming from him!

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, it’s more about Wainwright than it is about Wood here. Wood never gets the run support…

    • Jaseos 10 years ago

You’re not wrong, Wood was in the low 3’s for ERA last year and was 9-12… Pitiful support. I think The Cubs AAA team would be beating Wainwright tonight!

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, back on the Pirates. I liked ’em, they were on the shortlist but their price on the money line was low and I wasn’t 100% on their batting if you look at records but I definitely like Cole. If you truly feel Pirates will get the runs tonight, I’ll take it at max stakes as it clears my previous worries.

  52. andyw 10 years ago

    Thank god for that.

  53. Jaseos 10 years ago

You hit the nail on the head though Rusty, I’m not sure we can trust them to bash him about if he is wild again (still can’t believe he got to 8 walks without being pulled earlier!). The Pirates bats are very quiet at the moment. I will look into it a bit more, as it was just an observation really but if it was on your shortlist, more attention should be given.

  54. honda 10 years ago

I think the Cardinals could win this on the money line

  55. honda 10 years ago

    OK not so sure now

  56. Jaseos 10 years ago

You never know Honda, the Cards are usually hitting machines, but not so much this year mind. If they can put together a few 4,5,6 hit frames, they should be well in contention. They are certainly capable. Come on the Red Birds!

  57. Rustychest 10 years ago

Ok this is most definitely fixed

  58. Jaseos 10 years ago

Ouch! He is stinking the place up tonight. The good news is, that this is definitely his last inning (if he makes it that far).

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

45 Innings Pitched, 1 Home Run, 1.20 ERA and you can even throw the lesser 0.78 WHIP in there… he just had to stink it tonight.

    • Jaseos 10 years ago

I don’t believe in fate and jinxes….. but come on, this was not in the script!

  59. Trucker 10 years ago

Looks like plenty of time for a comeback, no?

Though I know nothing about baseball.

  60. Jaseos 10 years ago

Like I said Trucker, you never know with the good hitters on the Cards’ team but Wood is pitching quite well for the Cubs and this is probably not the last of the Cubs’ scoring.

  61. Jaseos 10 years ago

I can’t believe he is still out there. Stupidly, Castillo for the Cubs just swung at a 3-0 pitch when there were runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and a pitcher completely off his game… good old Cubbies.

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, and that’s the team they’re losing to. Shocker right..

  62. Trucker 10 years ago

Jaseos there appears to be a lot more to this baseball lark than I first thought, it’s not just throw ball hit ball like primary school!! :)

  63. Jaseos 10 years ago

Trucker – About 15 years ago, while I was at college, a group of us wanted an excuse to stay up till all hours and drink. Sundays and Wednesdays on Channel 5 was the saviour in the summer months.

We all picked teams, in a sport we knew nothing about and let the drinking commence. Unwittingly, I began to get more of a feel for the nuances and finer points of the game and grew to love it.

I completely understand people who say it’s “glorified rounders” and “boring” because I guess I thought that too at first. All I will say is give it a chance and take it from me, some of these guys who play are athletes in the true sense of the word – 162 games in 6 months + playoffs if they make it and not a dive or a feigning of injury in sight… magic!

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, add to that some pitchers pitch as a form of art. It’s beautiful to watch.

  64. honda 10 years ago

My arm would be killin’ after 1 inning :)

  65. Rustychest 10 years ago

We could be in now Wainwright is off and his replacement is one of those pitchers who can be the best in the world or outright bad, luckily he is pitching on the good side. :)

  66. honda 10 years ago

Not sure I trust the Cardinals bat Rusty :)

  67. Jaseos 10 years ago

I used to love watching Greg Maddux pitch. The guy never topped 85mph on the radar gun but he hit his spots (where the catcher lines up his glove a target) with unreal accuracy.

Also Rusty, as a Reds fan, seeing it many times, what about Ken Griffey Jnr’s swing… awesome.

  68. Rustychest 10 years ago

Not true honda. Carpenters like Wood. ;)

  69. Trucker 10 years ago

The good thing is, if the bet goes tits up I’ll consider my lost stake as my fee for the entertainment of this thread :D

  70. Jaseos 10 years ago

    Haha Trucker.

I hope you are on the other ones that Rusty posted. I think we have had our fill of bad luck for the night and I would be shocked if 2 from the 3 didn’t land.

  71. honda 10 years ago

Clean sweep from here on out :)

  72. Jaseos 10 years ago

There we go… 3 more runs now please!

  73. Trucker 10 years ago

Trixie all the way, I’ve been stalking yous remember ;)

  74. Rustychest 10 years ago

Jaseos, Reds chances tonight with Leake?

  75. Jaseos 10 years ago

Rusty – I think it all depends on if Leake can keep the ball down and get his ground-outs. Peralta has a poor record in Cincy but the Reds line up today without Meseraco, Phillips, Hamilton and various members of the bullpen.

It’s a close call but if I had to pick I would say Brewers due to the Reds hitting concerns.

    • Rustychest 10 years ago

An avoid betting game then ;) TOP O’ THE 9TH. C’mon CARDS!

  76. Jaseos 10 years ago

Rondon has been lights out though this season so I’m not too hopeful.

  77. Rustychest 10 years ago

What a closer. Oh well, we got the inevitable loss out of the way for the night.

  78. Trucker 10 years ago

Right, everyone give me some money and I’ll drive away with my back doors open and stuff might fall off the back of a lorry :D

  79. Jaseos 10 years ago

Rusty has as good as given you money Trucker with the next 3 tips! Do you have a 2015 Sports Almanac in the back of that lorry?

  80. Trucker 10 years ago

No sir I do not! I am jesting as I’m sure you know jase, if I may call you jase!!
I am on them all as singles on rusty’s instructions :)

  81. Jaseos 10 years ago

Good man Trucker and of course, Jase is fine.

Pity about the almanac but just following some of the guys here can be the next best thing!

  82. Jaseos 10 years ago

Good man Trucker and of course, Jase is fine.

Pity about the almanac but just following some of the guys here can be the next best thing!

  83. Trucker 10 years ago

Jase, I’ve been gambling for 20 years but only started making money about 3 months ago. I have made profit every month since then and the future looks good.
That is 100% due to this site…and beers have been purchased :)

Nice one Trucker. It’s great isn’t it? Feels like cheating sometimes!

I’m going to catch up with the baseball scores and reports in the morning, since the kids will be having me up in about 7 hours time!

Hopefully wake up a little richer than when I went to sleep.

Is there anything more beautiful than making money in your sleep?? I wake up to have a break from work, go for a pee and straight back to sleep to make more money :)

If you have a wee pish in your bed thats your business Trucker but you shouldnt really be sharing your bedtime activities with strangers :)

If what you leave behind upon leaving the bed doesnt have to be prodded with a stick by the Mrs then you have a successful marriage :)

Just looked at the scores from last night and to say I’m shocked is an understatement.

Rusty my friend, I would have backed them all again and don’t regret any of the picks. Lady luck completely deserted us. It appears that my small uncertainties with Wood and Arroyo both bit us on the backside, the White Sox didn’t show up and Seattle blew and 8th inning lead.

Not only did none of the -1.5 RLs come in, but they all actually lost! To put it in to context, if you backed all 4 winning teams in an 4-fold you would have got odds at over 26/1.

It all means for me that I am pretty much back at square one since I started 4 days ago.

On to today’s games Rusty, we won’t let a freak night’s results beat us that easily!
