WITH the Cheltenham Festival over for another year the distractions have gone for football tipsters like me who can't help but be drawn to the events at Prestbury Park.

I was pleased to return to some sort of form with a Super Single winner at 19-20 and it was also a good night for Greg Browning and Jordan. Greg's Nap and NB won and Jordan's single and goalscorer came up with Cyle Larin on target for Orlando City.

My Super Single came up inside 20 minutes by which time Rennes were leading 3-1 at Marseille. I suggested over 3.5 match goals at 11-4 and 2.5 at 21-20 but posted the safer bet.

It's another busy weekend and I've posted separate English and Scottish football previews and many of my selections are explained there. Hopefully the accas losses can be addressed but with accas there's always added risk as we know.

I picked Hearts for my Super Single in the Daily Record at evens with William Hill but best price is a now 4-5 at Skybet. I'll keep Hearts on my homes but for the Super Single I will instead go again with Leicester who should pick up a narrow win at Crystal Palace.

Remember to check out We Love Betting for their weekend tips and video chat.

Decent night last night with the main bet landing as well as Larin who surprisingly scored the only goal in New York. The BTTS I also posted came up trumps in Ireland at odds against but wasn’t a tip so won’t add towards totals.

Odds on double today. In Ligue 1, Troyes were beaten a record 9-0 against PSG last week and will be without defender Karaboue. Caen are obviously no PSG but have had decent results at home recently, drawing 2-2 with 2nd placed Monaco, and beaten 3rd and 4th placed Rennes and Nice in 3 of 4 on home soil. Caen won 3-1 in Troyes even with 10 men for over half and hour and managing to add to their total. Troyes have conceded 2 or more in their last 5 away from home. Caen should win and score a couple with all their key players available

On the first night of the MLS this season I said NYCFC were overpriced to score twice in Chicago @ 17/20 and they won 4-3. Tonight the Columbus Crew who come into town who are also being overpriced at 11/88 to score twice, who play much better football than New York with Kamara, Finley, Higuain and Meram. Both sides have conceded 4 or more goals over their first 2 games this season, with both of the Crews seeing BTTS & Over 2.5. With that 4-3 thriller on the opening day I think we could have s similar game tonight with Columbus having more chances but Chicago catching them on the break with Accam and Igboananike.

Kei Kamara has scored in each of his last 3 games against the Fire (4 in total) and opens his account last weekend in their shock loss at home to the Union. Both sides will be eager to get their first win of the season and should lead us to goals being frail at the back. Chicago’ David Accam has scored in 2 of his last three against the Crew and has scored in both games for the Fire this season.

    Caen Over 1.5 Team Goals – French Ligue 1 – 7:00PM
Columbus Crew To Score – USA MLS – 9:00PM

    9/10 @ BoyleSports – 3 points

    Chicago Fire/Columbus Crew BTTS & Over 2.5 Team Goals @ 17/20 @ William Hill – 2 points

    Kei Kamara/David Accam Anytime Double @ 11/2 @ Skybet – 0.5 a point

I love my club but I’ll be getting on that treble. City don’t have a chance. Yeah it will be tricky down in Spain for Barca but a huge shock if they mess up. With the dreaded 2nd leg at Anfield and this amazing Aubameyang up front and all the away goals he’ll probably score, I don’t see us getting past them. One of my regular big insurance bets. Either do this treble or Dortmund to lift the cup but this treble gets my vote.

Only a few bets for me today. Anyone who follows my goalscorer bets will remember I used to back Charlie Mulgrew for Celtic on a regular basis. He won me a few quid but was plagued with injury although he has since made a return. The only thing that put me off backing him up until today was his surprisingly short price. Today is different though, today I see a very good price of 25/1 for first goal and 8/1 anytime with Coral.

I’ve hit them hard on the anytime market and they’ve since removed him from the anytime Goalscorer list. How they can do that, you tell me but that’s the norm with my betting these days. Chris Guy wants a punt and everyone else suffers lol. You can still back him online for first goal but you’ll have to go to the shop for anytime which I can confirm is still 8/1. It’s not surprising they’ve removed him from the market as he’s only 11/5 with Boylesports and 4/1 with the likes of Paddy Power and Betfred. He’s my main bet for today but I’ve also backed another couple of players.

    KILMARNOCK VS CELTIC
    1pt Charlie Mulgrew First Goalscorer @ 25/1
    1pt Charlie Mulgrew Last Goalscorer @ 25/1

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

attiladathrilla, I don’t like doing 4 draws because it’s such a speculative line and for keeping stats I definitely don’t want to include them.
I have 4 in the Record every Saturday because when I leave them out I get complaints.

    Derby/Forest early thoughts.

I’ve Ribeye steak and chips for dinner and a shelf of beer in my fridge for Derby’s most important game of the season ( from a fans perspective – bragging rights if you will ).

For both teams at coach/backroom staff level, there’s been some big changes. Dougie Freedmans parking slot is now empty as of last week and at the Ipro, Harry Rednapp has joined as technical director ( a job ironically he’s always been highly vocal about – he doesn’t like the idea of a club having one ) – To me, that suggests he has his eyes on the main prize of the vacant fulltime managers job. Darren Wassell has done ok but his lack of experience must of played a part in how we threw away a 3 goal cushion away to Rotherham in 8 minutes !! By the 80th minute, it could easily of been double that with Martin having a goal disallowed and again being the guilty party in possibly the miss of the season.

Harry Rednapp does not seem to have any respect for Darren Bent though his time at Tottenham so if he does pass the audition and get the job, Bent will be gone. Considering his lack of involvement in any match he’s been involved in this term, i’ll even help him clear out his locker.

Throughout Derby’s campaign, we’ve really struggled to maintain momentum apart from the purple patch of September/October/November/December, then it all went pear shaped. Chris Martin had a 19 league match goal drought starting in October but seems to of found his shooting boots, but the match winners such as Bryson and Thorne have either been absent through injury or have been given a bit of a run-out suggesting they’re not match fit.
Ince and Russell have not been up to their usual energetic selves and the Shackell factor in the middle of defence has now wore thin.

The thing with these local Derby’s are stats and form do tend to be thrown out the window and I’ve also noticed Forest always push for an early goal. Usually they get it too which puts us on the back foot.
Much like the Derby/Leeds matches from the past 40+ years, there’s been a bit of a game of football breaking out in the middle of a fight. Sadly for Derby fans, our midfield have been lacking in that department. We’ve lost the last 2 against them, drawn the match before that – but for the sake of balance in this summary, I won’t bring up the 5 nil we dished out 4 games back.
Some matches are like that, it sends the fans into dreamland, but that’s long gone.

It defies belief that Derby have some big strong Midfielders, the likes of Thorne, Johnson and Hendrick who are more than capable of standing their ground – especially in a match of this calibre, yet they’ve been lacking – badly. This has had a very bad affect on those guys who love betting on cards overs in particular. The bookies tend to draw the line in the sand at around 4.5 cards, I’ve seen it as high as overs 5.5 in matches against Leeds and Forest, I hope the bookies miss a trick here and go for the standard 3.5 cards benchmark. As yet, there’s no price up on bet365 but it should be up around 30 mins before kick-off. The reason they may lower this threshold is because Derby all season have had a lot less cards shown against them than in other seasons. But todays match is different. And we know that if we do not show our teeth in the middle of the park, we’ll lose this match.

As I’ve said, this last couple of times we’ve faced each other, the cards count has been somewhat lower than expected and teams have realised that to get something away at the Ipro, they can’t just turn up. The tackles have got to fly. We’ve still been kicked all over the pitch but when one side competes at that level and the other side doesn’t, it hits the card count. We’ve also often been allocated a ref that doesn’t understand the intensity of this type of local Derby and big decisions have been missed.

I’ve checked the roster and Keith Stroud is the man in the middle. So the FA finally send a ref capable of dealing with this type of match.

In 30something premiership and championship appointments, he’s produced around 150+ yellows and I think 11 reds. But I’ve concentrated on his championship stats. From 18 matches, he’s shown 86 yellows and 7 reds. On closer inspection, 5 of those reds were straight reds and 2 were double bookings. With 2 points for a red, 1 for a yellow and an extra point for a 2nd yellow he’s racked up 98points worth of cards in 18 championship matches, or 5.44 cards per match. – Not many of those matches were local Derby’s either.

The last time he ref’s for the Rams was back in November when we beat QPR 1 nil. There were 8 yellows in that match + a 2nd yellow ( not a straight red ) for former Forest defender Perch.
Matches between these two teams often produces a red and although we’ve not seen one produced in a few matches between these 2 sides, there’s about a 40% chance of someone taking an early bath. Home advantage suggests that if that is the case, it will be to a red shirt.

I do expect Derby will sneak a narrow 1 goal win, but it will be hard fought and I am truly expecting lots of cards. It is a must win game for Derby in terms of staying in the top 6, but Forest would love to spoil the party, so don’t be expecting a one sided affair. Forest have the ability to be in the middle of a rich vein of form and then be taken apart, and they also have the ability to be in the middle of a wretched run of results and then spoil the form book. – No different to Derby then.

A 1 nil or a 2-1 is about where this match is likely to be. Last week, it was 4/5 for a Derby win, it dropped as low as 8/15 yesterday suggesting lots of money has been thrown on the home win, it is now back up to 8/11 ( bet365) which is probably about right.
As for the cards price, nothing as yet from the bookies. If they draw the line in the sand at 3.5 cards, take the overs – it should be priced around 4/5 – 5/6. If the bookies go any higher, again over 4.5 cards should deliver. I’d be cautious of going any higher though.

Forget the corners market too, far too hit and miss to say with certainty.

A double on the Derby win and overs cards market from a £10 should deliver around £32+. That is where my money is going today.

Best of luck folks, i’ll be on hand again as soon as I get team news around midday. – don’t forget, its an early kickoff, it is on Sky too. For those of you too skint to afford a sports package, i’ll post up a nice link to get free sport on your laptop in the my club section.

Really love betting on a team when they bring in a new manager and have faith in Derby today, Ladbrokes doing a btts and Derby win @4/1

    • nathanufton 8 years ago

Bet365 have scuppered my tip, they’ve drawn the line in the sand with the overs cards market at 5.5 cards which is as high a line as I’ve ever seen. If I’m honest 4 or 5 cards in this match is about right, its nice and safe, but 6 or more cards is a big ask. I’m guessing they’ve pulled out Keith Strouds stats and concentrated on those rather than how many cards Derby County games as a whole are yielding this term. Anyways, its 5/6 for over 5.5 cards with bet365, but its a bit wreckless to go that high. I also took a look at the first card before xx mins @ 5/6, they usually target the 34-36 min mark for that, but again, they’ve set that quite low at 26 mins. I’d say the early card is much more likely to deliver than the overs 5.5 cards.

So its just an 8/11 straight single for me today. Sorry folks, hoped to offer a bit more meat on the bone.

    • nathanufton 8 years ago

      Derby team news:

1 change, Jamie Hansen switched from the holding midfield role into the right back position – Christie is swapped to the bench. In Hansen’s position, in comes Thorne. The rest of the team is the same as last weeks 3-3.

      formation is 4-3-3

      Carson
      Hansen,Keogh,Shackell,Olsen
      Thorne
      Bryson/Hendrick
      Johnson/Martin/Ince

Christie on the bench suggests he’s not injured but the gaffer is going for a more resolute back 4 with Thorne sitting in front of them.

Glad to see Bryson and Hendrick back in midfield, they work well together and prior to the late changes the gaffer made that set off Rotherham on their late 3 goal- 8 minute comeback, they were effectively servicing the front 3.

Russell still waiting for a start, I think that’s a sensible move.

Forest are unchanged from their last match against Hull, it appears former Derby winger Jamie Ward is fit for them, but on the bench. I’d say that is a good omen for Derby – how we loath having former players come back to haunt us – its happened so many times. Forest may be playing 4-5-1, but it could be 4-3-3.

    Bradford City vs Wigan

A fixture that evokes memories of 2013 for Bantams as the penalties win at then-Premiership Wigan really sparked the start of our miracle run to Wembley in the League Cup.

We’re coming off the back of two 2-0 wins (over Burton and Doncaster no less) – can we carry it on today?

Wigan have scored in 14 of their last 20 home games and with Rory McArdle out I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet.

New signing and last week’s 2 goal hero Jamie Proctor called Wigan the best team in the division recently and it’s hard to argue. I’m hoping they finish top 2 so as to avoid a return of this should we make the playoffs.

That being said, City are good on the road and we score a fair few (in 15 of last 20 away games).

Parky looks to be going with Proctor starting up top supported by Billy Clarke.

Big James Hansen coming off the bench to nick last goalscorer is tempting at 9/1.

Anytime scorers looking decent are (as always) Kyel Reid @ 11/2 and on loan West Ham midfielder Wes Thomas @ 7/2 (way too good for League 1)

As a result, it’s a tough one to call.

    Head: btts 1/1
Heart: Bradford win & btts 17/2

      All odds quoted with 365

    • nathanufton 8 years ago

Some good info in there. On a side note, Burton are a damn fine scalp to have, a 2 nil against them is huge. They’re my 2nd team and Nigel Clough kick-started the whole surge up the respective leagues, he has unfinished business and his team will play football for him. They’re away today to Port Vale, if I remember rightly, its not a ground they have much luck at even if it is just down the road.

    • robertc 8 years ago

I saw Burton a few weeks back at Southend and they were poor on the night (lost 3-1) and Southend outplayed them.

I think they’ve been consistent enough all season to warrant automatic promotion though – would be funny to see Newcastle vs Burton Albion on the opening day of next season!

I think they’ll have enough to see off Vale today I must admit

Hearts were never evens you use to do £50 super singles now its £15 wtf you just talk p..h

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

douglas, on Tuesday Hearts were evens at Paddy Power – and I have proof because I backed them.
Even now Hearts are 5-6 at betfair so not much lower than evens.
I’ve hardly ever put up 5pt Super Singles – that would be half my daily betting bank.
You stake what you want – and if you don’t like the tips why the hell are you here?

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

twine, I do have a short memory but I’m getting old.
However, I know I never had a regular 5pt Super Single.
Funny thing is when I do put up a big SS I get accused of chasing.
Anyway the stats are my own – people should do their own stakes.

    • attiladathrilla 8 years ago

MrFixit, I have to say that Douglas is correct in the assertion that you used to do 5 Point Super Single (always at Evens or above) nearly everyday. I remember this was your particular betting strategy so that if your Super Single Won (which was your main bet) you would break Even for the day even if if all your other bets lost.

I actually changed my betting strategy to a similar system based on this 5 Point daily SS (half of daily bank) after learning and following your system at the time.

I noticed that you stopped doing 5-point Super SIngles at the same time you started tracking your monthly profit/loss.

In regards to Hearts though, I agree with you that they were $2.00/Evens at WIlliam Hill a couple days ago….might not matter what they were anyways as they are down 2-0 at halftime and look very poor today.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

attiladathrilla, just back from my game and Hearts are breaking my hearts but hopefully Leicester hold on.
I’m sorry but you and Douglas are both wrong – the 5pt Super Single strategy never happened.
Also I rarely place 10pts on any day.
At least we agree Hearts were evens – I’m not sure why anyone would think I’d make that up. Anyway evens and 5-6 isn’t much different and they’re having a nightmare.

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

twine, yes I am. 3 people out of 140,000 users is nothing.
And as I’ve said the points are only a guide anyway.
It should be about number of winners and people should decide their own bets.

    • scott 8 years ago

I always thought the amount of points that Mr F staked on his SS was a reflection of how confident he was of the selection winning and don’t remember it always being 5 points. Anyway, it’s up to him to bet as he chooses, no one HAS to follow….

    • Mr Fixit 8 years ago

scott, exactly – also I’m not trying to encourage high stakes.
Nice finish by Lyon brings up the Euro treble to go with BTTS treble and SS – not a bad day after all.

Derby have already laid down their statement of intent with the bite they’re putting in the tackles. About time.

    • nathanufton 8 years ago

30 mins gone, Forest made the brighter start and had a good go at us for the first 15 mins, having said that Derby have had the best chance in the game in that period. Derby have since grown into the game and are starting to edge it in terms of the attacking threat. Both teams are up for this with some solid tackles going in from both sides, great for a neutral but wondering if Keith Stroud has maybe forgotten to pack his cards for this game. 0-0 so far and very little in it. possession is 50/50.

Well done on Leicester Mr F! With that result I’m putting an early tip up for tomorrow. Harry Kane was rested last week and it looked to prove its worth with his brace against Villa. On Thursday he didn’t play a minute so has had plenty of recovery for their Premier League title push. Scored a hat-trick in their 5-1 win in Bournemouth in the reverse fixture and I’d expect him to grab one again today.

The majority of bookmakers have him odds on, but Bwin are kindly offering 11/10 which is a great price imo.

Work tonight and I’m likely to be busy tomorrow so putting up tomorrows bets now. Already posted Kane above but will put together a goals bet and a couple of other scorers.

One for the morning sees Perth Glory travel to New Zealand to play the Phoenix who can still qualify for the playoffs, but will likely need to win their remaining four games. Easier said then done as Perth are one of the inform teams in the A-League who are looking to seal a playoff spot themselves . Striker Andy Keogh has 6 goals in his last 5 games for Perth and scored here in a win last season. The Glory have won both of their last two trips here and three of their last four on their travels.

    Austrailian A-League – 4:00AM

    Andy Keogh (Perth Glory) Anytime @ 8/5 @ 365 – 0.5 a point

A top of the table clash in the Eredivisie between PSV and Ajax. PSV are being favoured by the bookies despite having to travel back from their 120 minute contest which sealed their Champions League exit midweek. Ajax are the only side out of the two to drop points completely in their last 15 games, with a loss against Utrecht. While I can’t predict who will win, I do like the price of Ajax to score considering the circumstances. PSV haven’t conceded in their last 3 at home, but they do slip goals even against the worst sides. Ajax will be fresh and raring to go where they can leapfrog PSV to the top with a win, and I like them to score.

Its the Tyne-Wear derby at St James’s Park and that usually brings plenty of action. Sam Allerdyce has already taken 3 points from this fixture this season and will be looking to cause the spoils for the toon army once more after Rafa Benitiez’ loss in charge against Leicester on Monday. Over the past few seasons, Sunderland have been dominant in this hotly contested fixture. Unbeaten in 8, winning 6, with 5 of them to nil. The last time they failed to score at St James’s was in 2008, and I think they’ll score here again today. Benitez is basically a walking aid while Newcastle struggle towards the end of the season and can leave whenever he wants. That is not a good recipe for a manger, knowing he is safe regardless of what he does. On the separate side of the dugout you have Allerdyce who knows all about relegation battles, and Sunderland will know that a win could seriously help their chances of survival.

    2 x small stake lines today :

    Sheff Weds
    Wallsall
    Wimbledon
    Northampton
Acca pays a fraction over 7/1
    **WON**

    West Brom
    Ipswich
    Hearts
    Treble pays over 13/2
    **LOST**

Must admit that I’d given up on both lines today and then a 90th min goal in THREE games in my 4-fold to land a 7/1 winner, happy days!!
