ANDY MURRAY kept his Wimbledon title charge on track with a demolition of Tommy Haase while fading force Rafa Nadal bit the dust against rasta master Dustin Brown.

Brown was tipped to win a set by Mr Fixit and also to win the match by a few regulars so well done all who contributed and made a few quid.

The tennis thread was teeming with winners yesterday and let's hope for more of the same today with title favourite Novak Djokovic and French Open champ Stan Wawrinka leading the superstar cast.

Djokovic is 9-20 at Betway to dispose of Bernard Tomic in straight sets and for a 3-0 Wawrinka victory over Fernando Verdasco it's 6-4 at Sportingbet, a tempting price considering the Spaniard has struggled through two five-setters so far.

In the other third-round clashes I look the look of over 3.5 sets in the likes of Nick Kyrgious v Milos Raonic and Marin Cilic against John Isner.

British women's No.1 Heather Watson faces a herculean task in trying to get past Serena Williams. It's their first meeting and a straight-sets defeat looks on the cards for Watson, who is 12-1 at bet365 to stun the world No.1.

Elsewhere today there's a load of cricket, a Super League tussle between Leeds and St Helens and Aussie Open snooker.

Let's hear your tips for Wimbers and other sporting action and good luck with your bets.

Scott's tennis treble

Cilic v Isner over 3.5 sets
Kyrgios v Raonic over 3.5 sets
Dimitrov v Gasquet over 3.5 sets

Attempting a rolling bet / challenge. Starting with £25 and seeing how far i can take it. Mostly odds on singles but anything im confident about across all sports.

    Bet 1
    Trump (snooker) 2/5 – £25 stake

Could be a tad embarressing if he loses.

    Friday Wimbledon:

    singles:

    Mayer v Anderson @ 2/1
slightly speculative as i’ve not been watching them this week, but Mayer has the potential to at least drag Anderson into tiebreaks in every set, and while Anderson has the edge in this match if he serves very well, it should be a close run thing either way. Mayer plays well enough behind serve to hold at each time of asking if he’s on form himself, and hasn’t dropped a set in impressively routine wins over Kokkinakis and Granollers. Despite his on the face of it grass court game Anderson, has never made a deep run here, so I don’t think he’ll have too much of a mental edge, despite his greater experience at Wimbledon.

    Kyrgios d Raonic @ 2/1

Again, a bit speculative. I expect Raonic to serve about 45 aces in this one, but whether that’s enough to win i’m not sure. Kyrgios has less of a buzz about him this year than he did last after beating Nadal, but I actually think that might help him. Following up such a big win is difficult, and this time round he’s had a more low key time of things, taking out Schwartzman and Monaco in straight sets. That’s a pretty mild opening couple of rounds, so it’s hard to gauge exactly where his levels at, but because Raonic doesn’t return particularly well he should drag him into breakers and have his chances in those.

I’m not feeling particularly confident about these picks, and I’m nowhere near as excited about them as I was about Brown over Rafa yesterday, but hopefully one of them at least can spring an upset.

    Mladenovic d Azarenka @ 3/1

this is also worth a try I think. until Azarenka has firmly re-established herself as a consistent, top draw player then it makes sense to go against her in this kind of matchup and situation. Mladenovic has the game to hurt her on grass and will hopefully play a relaxed, aggressive game and go after her as the underdog. I’m hoping for the old cracks to show when Mladenovic puts her under some real pressure, and for the double faults to start pouring down.

    win acca:

    Goffin d Baghdatis
    Kudla d Giraldo
    Cilic d Isner
    Wawrinka d Verdasco

    pays 4/1

add Bencic for jus under 6/1 (the number of matches she’s played in the last three weeks is my only concern)

    overs acca:

kyrgios v raonic over 3.5 sets
mayer v anderson over 3.5 sets
    stephens v safarova over 21.5 games @ 7/2

    add:
mladenovic v azarenka over 20.5 games
    bencic v mattek sands over 20.5 games @ 13/1

lowish stakes today as I may well not have placed these bets if i had a more enticing card at my disposal!

My wimbledon match bets will stand or fall by todays result for GIRALDO TO WIN at 13/8 outsider – your having a laugh bookie boys – he should be favourite.

The bet of the championships so far IMHO and make him favourite around 4/6 ; He Will Win this without doubt In My View :-)

Giraldo to beat Kudla at an unbelievable 13/8 with Bet Fred/bet 365
loads of 6/4 around – THIS WINS :-)

    1/

      Reasons Giraldo will win

1/Not only is he higher ranked player by 45 places but Giraldo is actually a top 20 player only last year – and very capable on grass – Kudla is 105 in the world and fixed firmly around the 100’s last few years – so that’s his level. I see this more as a top 30 player against a 105 ranked player both liking the grass.
2/I like how Giraldo pushed Querrey and Karlovic really close in his last two grass tournaments if he can trouble those two grass court monsters he can win this.
3/Kudla’s apparently impressive grass court form is based mainly on the much much weaker challenger tour
4/Giraldo as been further at Wimbledon than Kudla who has never made it past round 2.
5/Kudla has played two long tournaments before this where he made the finals and has played a four and 5 set match here whereas Giraldo is fresh having had a straight sets win and a walkover.
So a much higher ranked, much fresher player, who has been further on grass at Wimbledon against a player who has played 10 tournament matches in June and a 5 and 4 sets coming into this. :-)
If Giraldo takes the first set this could be over very quickly and if not expect him to outlast Kudla who is simply not as good IMHO and must be fatigued somewhat.

If Giraldo looses I ain’t tipping or betting Wimbledon again this year and I will be eating baked beans on toast for a month ! :-)

    • De Niro 9 years ago

slight corrections when I say Girlado was a top 20 player I mean he was ranked under 30 – lol so maybe I should have said top 30

I have covered all bets today by backing Giraldo to win ..so if he wins its money back.

Does Ad think Giraldo has chance?

  13. Lord Clegg 9 years ago

My tennis overs bet came up yesterday and I’ve noted a few today that could go the same way.

Gasquet has probably the best backhand in the game after Federer and he has had the Indian sign over Dimtrov so far but the other guy will surely get a set today… this will be Gasquet’s toughest match yet.
When the big servers meet you can bank on a tie-break or two so I’d expect over 3.5 sets as well with Krygios and Raonic and actually I hope Raonic wins

For the over 3.5 it’s take your pick between the Kudla/Giraldo and Cilic/Isner matches. I’ve decided to steer clear of Baghadtits who is usually good for four or five sets as he’s supposed to be injured.

My gals over 2.5 set double will be Sloan Stephens v Sarafova and the Honey Monster v Heather Watson. Add Coco and Stosur for the treble. Stosur is good on her day but a bit erratic and Coco sounds like a clown but is playing well I note.

De Niro good luck, you sound very confident. Hope he wins for you cos not a match I’m betting on but I’ve seen a bit of kudla this last week and he’s looked good. And you realise he’s only 22 years old, so saying that being ranked 100 and not getting past the 2nd round ever etc is probably a little premature. He looks like he’s gathering momentum and growing in confidence too, but should be a good game to watch!

Hoping for a fifth day of profit on the tennis. The over 3.5 sets (logic would tell you) should come up more frequently as it gets more competitive. With odds still around the 1/2 mark as singles and evens for doubles it could be a real money maker. I’m going to be trying a long shot accumulator today as well as picking out a couple of doubles/trebles that I feel have the best chance of landing.
I would suggest coming away from backing the 3-0’s and 2-0’s now as the danger is there as opponents get stronger and more confident there is always a risk of the big guns dropping sets.

Over the last few years I’ve seen Kudla as a decent prospect who stalled somewhat and seemed to accept a dullish mediocrity with occasional sunny spells . This was mostly on the US Challanger Tour which is mostly on hardcourts.

He’s had a good summer on English grass at Challanger level, two finals, both against Ebben, 1-1. Lot’s of grass court practice but only one top hundred ranked player (82).

Has a 9-7 record at ATP level on grass, the only surface in which he posts positive numbers. Surprisingly, in those 16 matches he’s not played a tie-break.

Has made the second round after coming through 3 qualifying rounds at Wimbledon in both 2013 and 2014. In total has a 12-3 record in SW19.

Those 3 defeats were against Janowicz, Dodig and Nishikori (all straight sets). Significant victories in termes of names/rankings (inside top 100) have only come this year against Cuevas (23) and Zverev.A (74).

Kudla is still young and if he harbours ambitions of going further in the game, today is the time to give it all he has got.

I haven’t seen much of Giraldo this year but on the face of it, his price is generous.

For interest, value and a SMALL stake, I’ll go Giraldo 3-0 @ 6/1.

Have got over wigan debacle tonight it’s top v 2nd and the home team should come out on top. Leeds are set to include their new aussie signing mitch garbutt and welcome back Adam cuthbertson and Danny maguire from injury. Saints on the other hand have had terrible injuries at full back and mark percival is likely to play there again, his positional play was caught out a couple of times against widnes and Leeds are likely to take advantage. Leeds should be too strong tonight and a lot will rest of Kevin sinfield shoulders with Danny maguire just back from injury and Sutcliffe out for season, his kicking game could be crucial

    • Jack 9 years ago

Best value I can see is Serena to win the 1st set 6-2 @ 16/5

No chance of Heather breaking Serena surely so why I wouldn’t advise as Watson isn’t the best server then 1st set score after 2 games being 1-1 @ 3/4 would allow you to cheer on Watson!

  63. Centrecircle 9 years ago

    Jordon-watson no chance mate 6-3 6-2

  64. Jack 9 years ago

Ad, what’s your thoughts on Cilic vs Isner, I watched Cilic play unconvincingly the other day and thought about backing whoever he played next. But I just am not 100%?

  65. Juan 9 years ago

Giraldo hasnt started too well, what was the story of the set is he getting overpowered?

  66. thechief 9 years ago

    S. Stephens +2 games
    Kyrgios +3
    Gasquet +1.5

LOST – not even gutted about this, just really annoyed at myself! I told myself a couple of days ago after Watson’s and Konjuh’s performances I’d leave women’s tennis alone other than Serena. Should have just stuck with my gut and had the Gasquet win in there rather than handicap but that’s hindsight again. Would have been a nice 365 bonus but oh well

Evening Guys, Leeds Rhinos v ST Helens

The top two square off at Headingley tonight and it set to be a cracker. The Rhinos are the favourites at 8/13 Betway. The Rhinos come into this on the back of two wins over Hull FC in the space of five days, they badly needed the wins as they were having a bit of a wobble. For the saints they had a comfortable win in the cup and have won 5 out of their 9 away games.

Saints are struggling at Full back with Makinson, McDonnell out and club legend Paul Wellens retiring. Leeds on the other hand are getting the best prop in Super league back in Adam Cuthburtson and Mitch Garbutt is in the squad and should make his debut tonight.

This should be a cracker of a game Leeds have won 3 of the last 5 meetings but Saints won at Leeds last year. They also have a huge pack and when they get on a roll they can blow anyone away like they did too Wigan in the second half a couple of weeks back. Leeds are not exactly shy in the forwards either and it will be a great battle, however I think in the end this will be won by the backs and for me Leeds have the best backline in the league, and I am taking Leeds -4 Various.

In the try scorer market Im taking one from each side. Any of the wingers and fullback Hardaker are worth a look but for me I’m going for some value and sticking with Joel Moon again. He is usually a provider of tries but is in a rich vein of form with 5 tries in his last 5 league games and scored in the cup last week, he is often the forgotten man in Leeds impressive back line but I like him. He is 15/8 Ladbrokes.

Saints top scorer Makinson is out, Jordan Turner is second highest and he scored 2 against Leeds earlier in the season and 2/1 at Skybet appeals, but one try was a lucky bounce and the other was a Luke Walsh break which he finished off. I just think the speed and ability to make defenders miss makes Adam Swift a danger tonight, he scored a length of the field try in the cup on Sunday and he is a big winger so is a danger close to the line. He is shorter odds than Turner at 11/8 Ladbrokes but it is good value considering he has 27 tries in 28 games for Saints.

A interesting trend I found in 3 of the last 5 meetings as seen a drop goal kicked, and each of the last two meetings. It is not available with every bookmarker but I have seen 11/4 at Sportingbet and 888sport

    LEEDS -4 TO WIN 10/11
    MOON TO SCORE 15/8
    SWIFT TO SCORE 11/8

Good luck if your having a bet

    • rensen 9 years ago

Great write up chief.I am still recovering from the Wigan shocker last night.

    • wtf 9 years ago

      Hi Chief

Great write up i think this will be brutal, lots of big hits, might even see a red card in this one.

The gentlemen up front will be looking to lay a maker for the upcoming semi final.

The south stand will be rocking and will hopefully cheer the Rhinos home.

Fancy Hall and Watkins to score and Leeds win at 6/4 with WH.

Small bet on Peacock anytime at 7s.

rensen, cheers mate. Warrington wanted it more I thought Wigan would edge it but Warrington with the 8pt start for me, Wigan couldn’t even get 8pts

Sorry Jordan, everything on paper and whatever else pointed too a straight sets Serena win other than the crowd and patriotic bias.

Her losing a set is like United losing to MK Dons…oh wait ;)

All jokes aside, sorry again mate couldn’t have seen it coming

  97. The wet lettuce 9 years ago

Watson sensational unlucky. If she plays like that from now she will break top 10 easily.

One of the best Ladies matches i have watched..ever.

  98. Jordan 9 years ago

Jack I was kiddin mate I wasn’t bothered at all as it would have only been a tenner on the 2.5 sets. The price said it all but I just felt being on center court with the British fans behind her she had every chance. What a thriller.

  99. WasClueless 9 years ago

Heather Watson …. take a courtesy Miss !!! Top performance …

  100. De Niro 9 years ago

Well the baked bean diet as been avoided as I made a VERY good profit on Giraldo as I cashed out at just under evens and had a big wad on.

But gutted for anyone who trusted and followed
SORRY = truly fed up as the idea was to win outright of course !
Gutted also I wont be tipping rest of Wimbledon as promised due to Giraldos loss

Gutted but massively up strange feeling :-(
Gutted that Mr F and Ad win and even though I WIN BIG £’S THE TIP LOST! :-(

Sorry for anyone who lost on Giraldo due to me :-(

    So big day of profit but soured by the end result and loss to a huge degree;
All 3 women quarter winners still live but at massively reduced odds so still hoping for big profits there and Dimitrov out :-)

Attention will turn back to nags from Sat for

    tips :-)

  101. Ad 9 years ago

Watson- fantastic effort. But she will never be top 10 I don’t think. Steady too 30 for the next five years at least

  102. Centrecircle 9 years ago

Gallant effort by watson…thats why i love tennis

  103. Harry 9 years ago

Jack great analogy there haha. Jordan I must apologise for the bad advice but didn’t see her running her anywhere near that close, the crowd made a huuuuge difference. I don’t think anyone saw it coming tbh other than you! See a lot of people backed her but don’t think I saw anyone tip her…may be wrong. That game summed up why beginners (me) should stay away from women’s tennis.

Mixed day for me with 2 proper winners and 2 proper losers, acca went very close with only the two women (surprise surprise) letting me down and could have cashed out the £2.50 stake for £45 at one point but let it run. Well done all winners, looked like some good tips today

  104. JamesB81 9 years ago

    Djokovic 3-0
    Wawrinka d Verdasco
    Hingis/Mirza d Date-Krum/Schiavona
    Peya/Soares d Betov/Bury

    Odds: 1.12

WIN for the Bread & Butter Bigger Bet.

    Giraldo 3-0 @ 6/1.

LOSE for the smaller wilder bet.

Cycling: Tour de France 2015 stage 1

A time trial to decide who is going to wear the yellow jersey as the first leader of the race. I think Tony Martin will be the guy who wins it, but he not worth the gamble at small odds. It will be a close race. I will be in Utrecht tomorrow to see the race and having a few beers.

    Match-ups, winner in capitals:

    NAVARDAUKAS v Van Baarle
    BOOM v Durbridge
    Double @ 2.17 with 888 or 365

I’m going with two specialists on this kind of short time trial (14 km), which means cycling as hard as you can for about 15 minutes. Navardauskas in a strong time trialist and had some good results this season. Van Baarle didn’t looked very good a the nationals time trialling.

Boom is one of the favourites for tomorrow and will be cheered on by the Dutch crowd. Durbridge is also a very good rider against the clock, but is better at longer distances. I fancy Boom tomorrow.

Wonder the odds of 70-68 in the final set between isner and cilic!

    • Mr Fixit 9 years ago

Benny, I watched a bit and the serve was so dominate. If Isner could return he’d be unbeatable.

  108. Jordan 9 years ago

Harry it was a mere suggestion as I was going to watch it so fancied her to nab one to entertain me slightly more. Hell of a game though and it would have been some result if she defeated Serena.

  109. WasClueless 9 years ago

TheChief / LeeC – nice tipping on the Leeds game gents … -4 … shouldn’t you have gone a bit larger ;) only jesting!!! Thanks you both !!

  110. leecunliffe 9 years ago

Wascluless in hindsight an alternative handicap would have been ideal but I got burned by my wigan boys last night. I only wish had tipped Watkins at 10/1 first try rather than anytime but will take it after last night’s result. Whenever I see chief on same page it’s a nice feeling knowing we on same page. Roll on September chief

A good bit of money made today , both Cilic and Isner fantastic serving games , I agree with you Mr f if he could return he’d be incredible .

      4 Fold @ 4.92/1 (£5)
      Baltimore Orioles ML
      Arizona Diamondbacks ML
      St. Louis Cardinals ML

On a bad run with the baseball of late, teams picked based on starting pitcher, as usual Dodgers odds are crap because of Kershaw starting but he’s on a 3 game losing streak but can’t see it being 4 in a row.

Giorgi to beat Wozniaki @ 2/1

A fairly clean Giorgi performance will be a problem for Wozniaki on a grass court. Though decent on the surface, she’s never gone that far at Wimbledon, and Giorgi has the right game
to hurt her on a fast court. Woz had a strange mini collapse at the end of her last match. Enough to suggest there’s still a slight vulnerability lurking there somewhere

    Venus d Serena @ 4/1
Doubts about Serena were one of the reasons I picked Venus outright. That and her own game still being good enough to beat about anyone when it clicks on a court like this. Serena picks her game up, this probably won’t happen, but since the start of the French people have been nearly beating her who shouldn’t. Venus, I’m hoping, is someone who can get over the line
